Ozala The Gorilla Mother Blowing Off Some Steam

- After all that business with the flap in the last video, being kept from going inside and now Lope is starting to annoy her again , the normally pretty relaxed, taking it all in her stride mom Ozala had quite enough and is blowing off some steam with baby Shufai on her back.
Lope is beating his chest at her and poking her with his finger, when later just something clicked in her and she started beating her chest and started running through the enclosure. Sitting there with Lope, Shufai still clinging onto her back, she suddenly kicked the hut. Lope being Lope he doesn't know when enough is enough and continues to beat his chest at her. Now it's mums turn to stare down Lope. Later rolling down the hill after her, she tries to grab him as he rolls past. When Ozala has her next burst out, Lope looks like he wants to run after mum, but bumps into gran instead and then continues to roll down the hill. Once more, another poke and Ozala running after Lope and down the slope. This time she grabs him and then stares him down. Hopefully Lope got the hint this time.
I'm not quite sure what was up with little Shufai, as I haven't seen him once come of mum's back that day. He was clinging onto mum the whole time. As Stephanie said in one of her comment " Little brother is getting really good at hanging on during these Lope encounters"

Lope had too much sugar that day. Love how he ran for cover behind grandma Biddy and she brushed him away with "boy, you are on your own."

I think I read somewhere that babies nurse and ride on Mama's back until they're three years old or a little older. Poor Mama, Lope is such a handful! Wishing Shufai would play with him more. Thanks for this video, just adorable!

Lol, part of me feels like, poor momma, she needs a gorilla spa day ( whatever that may be, lol), then the other part of me just gets tickled watching Lope being Lope, driving momma batty because he just wants to play, lol. I'm wondering, how big will Shufai get still riding onto moms back, lol. He's found a great thing and isn't letting go of it....😂😂
Hi Stephanie...LOL...I was just thinking the same thing about "Baby" Shufai & wondering if poor Mama Ozala thinks it feels like she's carrying around a big warm "log" strapped onto her back...HaHaHa...I'm positively, emotionally *SMITTEN* with this precious Gorilla family...I long to go to the Twycross Zoo in Britain just to see them (all )& before the little "rascals" get much bigger... *: )*
poppykok5 Hey poppykok5, everytime I see a new video of this family I can't believe how much these boys are growing. The videos aren't far apart at all, so they are definitely getting big, fast. Okay, so actually knowing nothing about lowland gorillas, but just generally being an optimist, I had to wonder if there's a different way to look at this. Ozala could certainly have caught Lope if she wanted to and then made him feel pain for his constant pestering. Or, instead, does she know both her boys need her attention, which is hard to do with one on your back 24/7, and could she be possibly trying to give him a little play time with some reciprocal fake-chasing and-quasi aggressive posturing? In effect, she is actually giving him exactly what he was asking of her. Still knowing nothing about gorillas, developmentally his job right now is play, play, play, run, tumble, wrestle, eat, sleep, play. I'm probably wrong. But we've all seen her angry with Lope, being protective of Shufai, and this was not that.

Looks like Little Lope needs a playmate. Shufai is hanging on to mommy for dear life probably because he fears Lope will grab him and take him for and tumble down the hill and wants mommy to be his shield against Lope getting him. :-) Lope is so damn funny but I'm sure Shufai has moments of pure terror watching the stunts he does and feels safe with mommy. Another great video!! Lope loves pushing mommy to the edge for attention but today seems she wasn't taking it all in stride, as usual. So funny! Shufai,get off moms back and play with big bro! :-)

First they need to cut down on Loupe's E-NUMBERS, then he needs an evaluation, he needs to be on something, though we don't want to loose the real Loupe, but I get tired following his antics, so i empathise greatly with mom and dad. Please give him a football, he needs constant stimulation, I think the zoo is letting him down, so I feel bad for him as well.🙈

I like Ozala a lot more than Genki the head case queen, I never see Genki beat her chest and I think it's funny that Ozala has a MUCH more prominent sagittal crest compared to Genki who pretty much doesn't have one at all.

I think if Ozala becomes pregnant again that Lope would go to aq bachelor group. I know the oldest brother Okando is seven and lives with Tano at another Zoo in Germany.
Whaat??? Oh no! I know that is the reality of zoo life and all... and didn't Oumbi (I think, not sure) have another wife and children before Ozala? (Maybe that's who he's thinking about, when he sits by himself, unapproachable...) - but I just took such comfort in thinking that this was a cohesive family unit that had been allowed to stay together, and here you go, bringing reality into my happy delusions. Now that I think about it, what happens when low pay reaches sexual maturity, can those urges be stifled, will they bring in a non-familial mate, will he have to relocate, how many more years of happy family life do we have in front of us until that happens, ten, twenty, maybe? Oh no!
