I think it should have the same name as your UA-cam channel "Duracell Project". As we all know, every boat, no matter how finished, is always a project in progress. It has already had the name Duracell. Give it a personal touch by reflecting all your hard labor, thought and money that went into it and yet keeping Duracell as a nod to its prestigious past.
The name ENDURANCE would be a nod to her previous life, a link to a prestigious predecessor and testament to your own hard work in delivering her back to the sea
We are watching a MAN produce a magnificent piece of ART! Matt… there are no words to describe the emotion you instill in me when I watch this videos. I hope one day I can see this boat! PS… I’m not a sailor but loves boats…
I really like the positive example you are setting for people to take on huge projects. I always remember the quote "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
You forget what she looked like in the beginning and what a dramatic transformation she has gone through in such a short time. She’s going to be a beautiful yacht
As a landlubber, the ONLY important piece of advice I would dare to give you is - just avoid burnout like the plague!! If you find yourselves getting to the end of your rope in any way or for any reason, then JUST TAKE A BIT OF A BREAK!! A few days off... even a week or two, will not derail the whole project - NOR will it cause your entire follower-base to evaporate or give up on you! It's so easy to push yourselves beyond what is sane and manageable - don't let it get this far, even if you have to admit to NOT being superhuman!!! Above all, try to make sure you're enjoying what you're doing! It does comes across that you are!
@markchip1 Don't worry about Matt, he is young and full of energy (I think he just turned 23), like a charged up battery. Plus, he has the world's greatest mom, and Janni, and let us not forget Le Paws, who keeps everything neat and tighty at the shop!
I was about 45 yrs old when I followed the race, I fell in love with that ship, the first time I seen her, but I was surprised it was left to rot, that broke my heart, when I heard that. But I have been following you, in your restoration, of the ship, and I'm so happy that you are restoring her, she's a beauty under sail, good luck to you, and your, your partner, and your mother, you are doing an excellent job, She will open the world to you, once she's back in the water.
It is not an exaggeration to say that Mike Plant and Duracell gripped the attention of tens of thousands of (I guess) mainly European yacht racing enthusiasts back in 1989. Until Plant/ Duracell arrived on the scene, the Vedee Globe was little more than a handful of French yachtsmen essentially competing in a very nice French race. Europeans, including the French, took Mike Plant to heart because he was the heroic underdog whose skills, determination, commitment - and honesty, led to the Vedee Globe increasing massively in popularity. Those, like me, who followed the race on a daily basis - not easy as there was no WWW back then and we had to rely primarily on French newspapers and magazines - will never forget Mike Plant and Duracell. Oh - and whatever you decide to name your incredible boat - it will always be Duracell to me!
I can’t tell you how much I adore your channel. Your family support, from your incredible Mom and Dad, to you talented and beautiful wife, not to forget your friends is a tribute to your character. And I believe that its your character which provides the foundation for one to take on such a project. This boat… ‘Durecell’ will be a tribute to your character, with such shining through every facet of every turn on this gem. Thank you for sharing this journey with us. I so wish that I could support you financially, but… old, fixed income, yada, yada. BTW. The year immediately adjacent and following your 40th birthday is your 41st year. Not your fortieth , like you said. You mark the end of your fortieth year on your 40th Birthday. (Please pardon the pedantic point… but its a rare day any more that I get the drop on a genius, so I tend to pounce… .)
Congratz on 100! I like Duracell for a name (I've gotten very comfortable with that name since the beginning, and it keeps Mike Plante in the picture). Keep up the outstanding work. You are two VERY likable people!
You realize that you created an incredible resource for anyone needing help with composites? I can’t wait to see the rest of this build. Your considered, humble presentation makes complex processes understandable to the uninitiated. You give the gift of learning and that is a gift that is impossible to put a value to… I / we are in your debt, thank you both…
You are doing a great job with both the restoration and the channel...top notch! I am hoping more people discover you and you get to 100k+ subscribers soon!
Not to mention that you are building this boat so that you can both live a life that is by nature minimalistic. By living a minimalistic lifestyle your footprint on the earth will be a fraction of that of the average person.
I'm not here just for the fiberglass, it is the epic story you guys are producing that is captivating to me. I'm looking forward to the hardware side of the project. Keep up the great work.
So I’m going to spend years watching’the Duracell project’ and at the end I’m supposed to learn a new name!?! Duracell….please Hey it’s your boat, your home,so name it whatever you want 😊 Congratulations on 100 Your both doing a fantastic job!! Fair winds⛵️
Sorry but I think if I’d spent so much time, love and money into making my dream boat.. I would want to call it something that resonates with me and what the boat represents , not just have a brand name that came from a previous sponsor . A boat this incredible deserves her own identity
Agree...this boat is morphing and taking on a totally different personality- it would be nice to see a name chosen that shows the personalities and character of its new owners. Duracell is definitely not going to sponsor this boat again (?) and is not a great name....
I am not watching the channel for fiberglassing. I watch it for you building a boat, and you make any work interesting to watch. Besides I like to believe that I learn a thing or two.
I think your approach to this build is awesome, small bites is the only way to eat an elephant. This project is a huge elephant. Thank you both for your hard work, long hours and dedication to this endeavour to entertain us out of the water and in the near future in the water.
Matt, I’ve been working with fibreglass 4 over 40 years now! I’m gonna continue watching U do fibreglass projects! I’ve learned so much from U already! Thanx 4 sharing! 👍❤️
I have never worked with fiberglass and the likelihood of using it as a medium is unlikely, but the craftsmanship and your explanations is what brings me back for each episode. I look forward to the next building adventures; metal or wood you will make it interesting and informative. Thanks for keeping up the episodes, you both are making this channel a must to subscribe to!
That $57k has gone a long way! Rebuilds of this magnitude are certainly costly and there's a ways to go, but it's impressive how much progress has been made for relatively little money. Can't wait for episode 200!
(Re-)naming a boat; I think it’s nice when the boat‘s name reflects what it means to you. What hopes, dreams, expectations and ideas brought you to own this boat, your boat. I bought mine second hand 10 years ago and renamed it a year later. Almost a year long a knew the old name doesn’t fit well but had no better at hand. For 9 years her name is „Prisma“ and it reflects everything what matters to me. I hope your boat will accompany you in your life for a long time. In German: „und immer eine handbreit Wasser unter dem Kiel“.
People are NOT sick of watching you guys, because you finde the right mix of showing progress, explaining stuff, finding the right music and just being awesome people, that you are. You are still my number one boat building yt channel, keep on going with the great work, no matter how much fiberglass stuff it will be :)
I think you should consider naming your boat La Pawz in honor of the inspector and incorporate a paw print into your logo and mainsail. I'm impressed by the amount of work you've done in so short a time. I hope you can retain ownership of that house with its amazing backyard when you so sailing. Maybe you can convince your parents to sell their home and move there.
Jeez Matt. Great boat and a gorgeous wife!? Great informative episode. I've watched from the beginning. So excited for you guys and appreciate the knowledge your sharing.
ello Young Matt (Maxx). I have been following your journey (Navigated), full of challenges, a lot of commitment and perseverance, transforming "the Duracell (F-1)" into an 'OFF-ROAD', with many details, accommodations, drawers, weights and counterweights. What I highlight most (in addition to what has already been said) is that he transferred and transported 'to all of us' the understanding of the stages and methods, which involved his Mother (dedicated), wife (witty and good-humoured) and the cat (changing our look), that even though they were tired, they were there! The Sponsors and the support of Technicians, brightened this Wonderful experience and re-emerged the True 'FENIX'. ""Hugs from Brazil/SP"" to the rest of the Great Family (even without knowing O Continente I'm addressing.)
Name idea: durasail. Dura being Spanish for lasting, hot, badass, tough. At least it retains the sound of the original.. more or less. Great watching your amazing boat manifest. Fantastic craftsmanship. Your both going to end up with a monster craft. All the best! 👍😎
What I can say, and what I know is the fact that you’ve created a channel that is beautifully written, filmed and produced. The design and the craftsmanship is especially impressive, like I didn’t know as much as I do now so, for me, it’s been instructional as well, although, I know that is not your intention. And another thing…you’re comical, I can’t tell you how many times you’ve made me laugh! Congratulations on your 100th episode, give LaPaz a nice pet for me, she’s a real star now!!!
Go all electric propulsion and get Duracell Corp to pay for it!!! Love watching you two, and Matt's parents and all your friends. So down to earth and authentic. Looking forward to your cruising videos in another 100 episodes.
Mind blowing 57k. I was expecting at list 100k but really nearing 250k. Amazing. The launching surely after minimum 2 years. Love watching and wish I had a mum like yours, her being so real and always helping out. Love you guys. God bless.
I get the most gentle vibes off the two of you and it is what has made me watch near every single episode you've put out. I'm a big gun guy and I watch a ton of gun-tubers and to be honest I still prefer your content over theirs, despite the fact that I have no interest in sailing. It's you guys and your calm and pleasant demeanor that makes your content awesome. Thanks for these 100 episodes and if I'm alive, I'll be here for another 100 at least.
Matt...it doesn't matter to us What You are building/building with/or even how long it takes you. We are here for the craftsmanship. And we'll all still be here until she's back afloat.
WOW, only $57k and so far along. You guys are doing great. Might I also suggest the name Duracell with that rabbit on a surfboard emblem? Might get a sponsorship from Duracell, can you say a bank of Lithium batteries?
You know, an episode of sanding wouldn't be that bad now and then... there are some channels that seem to have made a living out of it! Here's to the next 100! 🍺
Congratulations on reaching this point. I have watched from the beginning and enjoyed every minute, or almost every minute. Wishing you every success on the next 100 episodes.
Hello both, keep in mind that it is your project. and it is true that we, the viewers, follow you! and let it remain so. you are beautiful people with strong character. You will achieve the set goals. Make Norway a definitive goal. with a stopover in the Netherlands please. ;-)
Happy 100, Looking forward to many more. It was nice for you share a bit about yourselves, your thoughts and touch upon your dreams. I love following along, one of my favorite channels.
That truck driver was worth his weight in gold squeezing past that building. The UA-cam channel is fantastic and I look forward to watching each episode every week. Spirit of the woods ( or forest ) gets my vote. Keep up the great work guys you’re doing a fantastic job 👏🏼
I think there’s a serious flaw in the super clever UA-cam algorithm. All those boat building/restoring channels you name, I follow them. And it’s decades not just yesterday. How is it possible I was proposed this mesmerising boat project only three days ago? Anyway I am quickly catching up with all the episodes. Great job, congratulations
Loving watching Duracell evolve... 🙂Who knew that watching someone lay fibreglass could be so relaxing... 🤔 I'm in for the compete journey & I know it will take time, however I'm watching all the way, Thank you for sharing 😀
Inspector for a boat name, like cruising your inspecting oceans. honestly 'Duracell Project' is fitting for the channel n supporters, Northwest Spirit is original n Doug for Short is ur boat.. thank you so much for all this content
You're building a spectacular vessel Matt. A millionaire's yacht. I have full confidence in you! The channel is important, yes. This is a lifetime achievement you're working on and those can't be rushed. Take all the time it takes. Thank you for sharing.
Great 100th episode, congratulations to both of you for getting this far with us and the boat. Haha, for some of us, these episodes every week has become part of our lives, they have for me and I look forward to seeing you guys each week! This boat is special and both of both are giving her a brand new journey and life as well and little by little she is taking on a new identity and look all because a couple of dedicated people have taken her under their wing, made her part of their lives and are transforming her into something that will live on for many years to come. I don't think you're nuts in anyway, in fact I think that both of you are visionaries and adventurers and have that amazing capacity for creativity. It seems at this stage like you're old friends. Thank you so much for bringing the world these special times and sharing them with us. As always, sending you both positive energy, here's to the next 100th.....Neil☘😊
Thank you for being such a great inspiration. After years of avoiding it, I am finally making room to re-finish a 40 y.o. dingy of a sail boat. Then I can finally learn to sail in an inland lake in Michigan
A great summary, really enjoyed it! For the name, I think 'Spirit of Duracell' would work given the old Spirit name and Duracell... and you could always shorten it to Duracell for everyday use. The keel looks fascinating, looking forwards to see how that all works out.
I think…… this entire process has been “ The Journey “. Which, if you think about it. Finding the boat, shipping it. The work and moments, the entire thing….. PLUS….. what is yet to come when it’s in the water and you travel is all! “ The Journey “…. Because after all, life IS about the journey and not the destination! 🥰🙏🏽
Follow you guys from the beginning! Just so nice to see the progress, workmanship, the videos got so much better and that boat is just incredible! Going to Norway with this boat isn't that far :)
On the subject of sponsorship... They would not be willing to partner with (both) of you...if you were not bringing a level of competency, craftsmanship and artistry to the project! You in turn drive their sales thru visual representation! Goodonyas, both! Now...make it a cruising family! 'cause cruising (nomadic) children are the Best...the have a unique perspective and are a joy to engage in conversation! Again, Goodonyas!
To the casual observer fiber glassing may seem monotonous (sanding definitely is) but to people like me who know about it, your attention to detail and craftsmanship is what keeps me watching every video from start to finish. I never tire of seeing quality work being done.
Well done on the 100, pretty sure I’ve watched them all 😀 . Having watched Ross in Aussie do his fibreglassing over years and more recently Ran sailing lay up strips on their 50 footer and about to start fibre glassing don’t stress about being boring , the one thing I’ve learnt is each project while “similar” is also really “different”, for one you are one of the few doing so much vacuum bagging. Cheers, retired civil engineer and still fascinated by all the interesting builds on UA-cam 😀
Nobody (unless you've done it) can underestimate the amount of time taken to make content as superb as this. Suggestion: store all the plastic waste somewhere and show it at the end. Name ""FYE" phonetic start of Five.
Durrecell should remain the name in honor of the project you’ve undertaken. Seems only fitting however we understand the romantic notion of a name that is historic and lofty in sound and hidden meanings. Duracell is epic now in the project’s name and historical context of its conception. “One man’s opinion “
Not sure Matt what others think but the real reason i watch is because I believe in you two guys, what you’re doing and to share your vision, so for me this is not a task I attend to once a week, it’s a pleasure and privilege and I learn heaps to
don't mind watching another hundred episodes of fiberglassing. I am not watching fiberglass work; I am watching you figuring out how to do the fiberglass work. You are doing a great job 👍👍👍
The fiberglassing is great, I love it but also your videos are really well shot and presented, love how you explain what your thinking is and what you are doing. please keep it going, the best channel on You Tube in my opinion.
I think you have done a great job of giving us content that is not repetitive. I’ve watched some channels that seem to consist of nothing more than sanding and fairing. I know it’s a key component of crafting things out of fiberglass, especially when there are no molds to provide finished surfaces, but boring for both parties. And as far as a name goes, I really like the idea of Duracell, or as suggested by another comment, “Duracell Project.”
I think it might be reasonable to shoot for hauling the boat to the yard in the spring of 2026 with a launch date of mid summer to early fall, with shakedown to start in middle to late November. I think that hurricane season is going to be extended on both ends due to climate warming. Whatever the schedule I wish you guys good luck and good health. I think you have the guts and the brains to make yourselves a new life on the water with Duracell. I vote for the name “Duracell”. That’s just who she is, and especially now, after the last 2 plus years, her name is in our hearts and minds.
Three cheers for you two! MOM! the inspector, total boat, awlgrip etc etc I enjoy every minute, every week and when you climb the ladders to look @ your work? well I just get it lol😋😋😋
I'm not here for the fiberglassing, as excellent as it is, but because this is such an epic project. Your well though out and well explained process is so interesting. I'm sure that will continue as you move to other aspects of the build.
Hello! I have been following you for a while seeing the project you do, I congratulate you! It is an incredible boat! I will continue to see your progress and your enthusiasm. Greetings from Argentina! South America.
Really love this channel and the project. Huge appreciation of all you do. You really are a great team and it shows. You’ve hit the tone and content just right. Can’t wait to see this through. Keep it up! Name wise how about Woodland Spirit.
Man you guys are the reason I’m watching. No matter what your doing y’all do a great job telling it. I’ve done a little fiberglass a few times but your work is amazing.
You guys are doing great on the refit of this boat. I watch most of your work and I'm hoping one day to have a sailboat to sail around the world. Take care. :)
Well I must be a sicko because I love watching a master tradesman and his family building their dream and the journey it takes us on cheers love your channel
I suggest that you do not cut the mast but Keel step the mast. This will make Mike's old boat bullet proof. Also I recommend over size stays. Yes this will make it where you need a crane to lift the mast, but the power of the sails will be transferred to the hull more efficiently and with such a radical hull this will help to make the boat more manageable in storm conditions. so would make your boat like a super Wyllie that was made in your area. Most of us never want to be in storm conditions, but when on the ocean you have no control of what the weather gods will toss your way. Also to avoid ending up like Mike did have your marine architect check the design of the cradle web the keel bolts to.
They already have the UA-cam name for their cruising/sailing videos then. It is a good unique name for sure.
Or change it to DuraSail. With or without Project added. It keeps the name as a homophone/ homonym without advertising freely for some corporation.
Terrible idea - even worse name
The name ENDURANCE would be a nod to her previous life, a link to a prestigious predecessor and testament to your own hard work in delivering her back to the sea
We aren’t watching fiberglass work, we are watching you figuring out how to do the fiberglass work
and than see what a great job they did & how great it looks 👍 :-)
We are watching a MAN produce a magnificent piece of ART! Matt… there are no words to describe the emotion you instill in me when I watch this videos. I hope one day I can see this boat! PS… I’m not a sailor but loves boats…
I really like the positive example you are setting for people to take on huge projects. I always remember the quote "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
I hope they take us with them on there journeys
I had no idea that your channel was about fibreglassing! I love your project for the vision, execution, tenacity and warmth of presentation. 💖💖💖🇦🇺

Just feels natural saying "Duracell" I'm leaning with the two legends.. one the boat, and the man who rebuilt her.
It is not an exaggeration to say that Mike Plant and Duracell gripped the attention of tens of thousands of (I guess) mainly European yacht racing enthusiasts back in 1989. How about Duracell that’s the name said on ever episode. Just saying what this ship is really known as.
I love the name Duracell, the history behind it is a great story.
Truly, 100 episodes of shear bliss. Thank both for sharing this fantastic rebuild.

Congrats on 100! You guys are amazing! Love La Paws as well!
WOW, only $57k and so far along. You guys are doing great. Might I also suggest the name Duracell with that rabbit on a surfboard emblem? Might get a sponsorship from Duracell, can you say a bank of Lithium batteries?
57k!!! That's amazing! Well done, can't wait for the next 100 episodes 😍😍😍
You know, an episode of sanding wouldn't be that bad now and then... there are some channels that seem to have made a living out of it!
Here's to the next 100! 🍺
Will be watching (& liking) forever, thanks for letting me share your fantastic journey😊
(sorry I can't be a patreon 😞)
it's okay! Liking and commenting helps too.
The 2 of you are very hard workers. Congratulations on what you have achieved.
Great job, congratulations
we're glad you found us. Welcome aboard :)
Loving watching Duracell evolve... 🙂Who knew that watching someone lay fibreglass could be so relaxing... 🤔 I'm in for the compete journey & I know it will take time, however I'm watching all the way, Thank you for sharing 😀
You guys are the best, I don't even sail but I've never missed an episode...
We love you too! And it is not boring, no, it is incredible, very interesting and great to see every week. So please go on !!
thanks, Arthur, and thanks for your support of our project :)
As always, sending you both positive energy, here's to the next 100th.....Neil☘😊
thanks for your thoughtful comment :)
Because Total Boat has sponsored you, I have bought all of my epoxy from them for my own project. Thank you Total Boat!
cool!
All I just can say is THANK YOU for your videos! They are one of the best moments of the weeks.
Mucho animo!
You're idea of a "shakedown cruise" is my bucket-list, dream cruise. Lol. 😄👍
Durrecell should remain the name in honor of the project you’ve undertaken. Seems only fitting however we understand the romantic notion of a name that is historic and lofty in sound and hidden meanings.
Duracell is epic now in the project’s name and historical context of its conception.
“One man’s opinion “
Not sure Matt what others think but the real reason i watch is because I believe in you two guys, what you’re doing and to share your vision, so for me this is not a task I attend to once a week, it’s a pleasure and privilege and I learn heaps to
I think there is something satisfying watching you do your fibreglassing work!!!
Welcome to Norway🇳🇴👍🏼😎
We are watching the fiberglass work. But we are even more interested in just hanging out with the three of you every so often.
Thanks for the videos.
I love watching a fellow introvert going out of his happy place. You are really good at this mate
thank you! Granted, most of the time, I'm just working away by myself on the boat. But putting ourselves on youtube definitely was a leap.
don't mind watching another hundred episodes of fiberglassing. I am not watching fiberglass work; I am watching you figuring out how to do the fiberglass work. You are doing a great job 👍👍👍
There must be people who would intern for you just for the knowledge skills & hands on experience with the fiberglassing you do.
I'm proud to be a sicko. I am looking forward to following your actual sailing adventures.
The fiberglassing is great, I love it but also your videos are really well shot and presented, love how you explain what your thinking is and what you are doing. please keep it going, the best channel on You Tube in my opinion.
Amazing work and an epic project! She’ll be fast and comfortable!
I still like the name "DuraSail" And it's great to watch fiberglass because while watching I no longer have to smell it.
Well done 100 episodes, I've started at number 1 again
Watching you fibreglassing is very therapeutic. Excited about having another 2 years of watching your channel 😀. Great work so far
Yeah, and if you have smell a vision like me, you can get a buzz by watching your show too.
Hello! I have been following you for a while seeing the project you do, I congratulate you! It is an incredible boat! I will continue to see your progress and your enthusiasm. Greetings from Argentina! South America.
Well done guys, what you are achieving is amazing. Love seeing the progress every week. Malcolm
Really love this channel and the project. Huge appreciation of all you do. You really are a great team and it shows. You’ve hit the tone and content just right. Can’t wait to see this through. Keep it up!
Name wise how about Woodland Spirit.
Keep it going. We will keep watching
Thank you for sharing your journey with us!
Man you guys are the reason I’m watching. No matter what your doing y’all do a great job telling it. I’ve done a little fiberglass a few times but your work is amazing.
Great episode! Thanks for sharing! Keep rolling Duracell team!👍👍
You guys are doing great on the refit of this boat. I watch most of your work and I'm hoping one day to have a sailboat to sail around the world. Take care. :)
Glad to be part of the journey. ❤❤❤
Well I must be a sicko because I love watching a master tradesman and his family building their dream and the journey it takes us on cheers love your channel
It's hard work and we're really enjoying the process. We plan on taking off some time for the holidays, though :)
Love the name Duracell. :)
Good projects get good sponsors. Well done you 2. We are not only here for the fiberglassing, we just have good stamina
You were near real time, now you earned an extra week with this episode 😂 still enjoyed it!
yep!
