The engine runs in reverse in relation to the wheels when you are going forward, that is why the arrow points to the back of the vehicle. The same engine also comes in Yamaha ATVs and the pulleys are on the opposite side of the vehicle so the engine runs in the same direction as the wheels on those.

A warranty isn't gonna change your belt if you have one go bad on you on a ride in the middle of nowhere. Instructional video.
