Yeah that's the spirit! Who cares if we might die in the process too, that's what friends are FOR!!!!!!!! I do like how most of the animals are looking at him like he's nuts and then everybody just joins in to the spirit. That's some true (maybe dangerous but still true) friends right there.
I've been so familiar with this TV movie ever since the early 1980's when it was produced but over the years I've forgotten how unbelievably touching the conclusion of the ending credits was. This was back when everything on television featured credits following it that actually took up the whole screen with their montages and made a point of sincerely reflecting the purpose of whatever film or program that they were representing before a new and pointless format was started in which the credits were shoved onto one fourth of the screen and the rest was taken up by ads which had no business being there. This was begun sometime in the late 1990's and continues to this day. It's senseless! Anyway though when nowadays does one find such high quality, realistic children's programming on television such as this? Never!!
I just rediscovered this and I'm thinking that maybe it's where I got my complex about having to help people out - even if it's dangerous. Not a good message to give kids at all... If you can't swim, you ain't helping anybody by diving in. :/
A friend of yours is drowning. You hear him shout. You know he isn't clowning. You race to help him out. If you go after him, And you can't swim, That's what friends are for. Yes, sir, that's what friends are for. Yes, sir, that's what friends are for. Your better judgement says, "Stay out of it," Because you're aware that you can't Swim one bit. As you go down the third time, They'll admit, That's what friends are for. A friend's in mortal danger. He needs your aid. You can't act like a stranger. You mustn't be afraid. He's fighting with a bear, And if you're there, That's what friends are for. Yes, sir, that's what friends are for. Yes, sir, that's what friends are for. We've got to get to Heidi, Come what may. Whatever the dangers are Along the way, We'll show them that we're brave And save the day. That's what friends are for. Yes, sir, that's what friends are for. (Come on.) Yes, sir, that's what friends are for. We've got to get to Heidi, Come what may. Whatever the dangers are Along the way, We'll show them that we're brave And save the day. That's what friends are for.
2:07 - Pamelyn Ferdin was in Charlotte's Web, another Paramount/Hanna-Barbera collaboration, 10 years earlier (it was recorded 10 years earlier, anyway)
I wish Warner Archive will release this movie on Blu-ray with brand new 4K restoration of the film including the original Paramount Pictures opening and closing logo with Blue Mountain and alternate end credits for celebrating 40th Anniversary next year.
I watched this movie all the time when I was little! However, I can’t help but pick apart the lyrics. You shouldn’t play near the water alone, and if you’re going to race to help your friend, you better grab help along the way, or you’re both dead. Yes, I get the message of the song, it just bothers me that they would suggest swimming alone. Oh, well! I guess that was just before moral guardians got involved with everything.
This version of Peter was MUCH NICER than the original's one; the original Peter pushed Clara's wheelchair down the hills out of jealousy towards her after Heidi spent more time playing with her only made peace with her at the end, but this Peter ALREADY BEFRIENDED CLARA FROM THE START AND GOING AS FAR AS HELPING HEIDI TO RESCUE HER FROM HER HOUSE AND BROUGHT HER TO THE HILLS. And the reason this version of Clara ended up get out from her wheelchair was because she had to SAVE HER KITTEN FROM A HAWK INSTEAD OF PETER DESTROYED IT.
My son, now 28 used to love this song. Back in the days of VHS recordings lol :)
TinaSteed 30 years later, I still love this song. True, it’s bad advice, but that’s what true friends would do.
I watched this movie a million times as a kid. :)

Amazing work in bouncy tunes of the 1980's!!

One of the nice things about this version of the story is that Peter doesn't destroy Clara's wheelchair.
Much like in the 1974 anime

Aw I used to love this film 🤗
It's so funny how several of the kid's animal friends seemingly decide to abandon him during this song.

Technically this wasn't a TV movie, but was theatrically released first (the MPAA logo at the end should give it away).
If you go after him and you can't swim, you have another problem! 😐😂😂😂😂
Footage by Paramount Pictures

Clever lyrics

I remember Peter and his animals saving Heidi when she was put in a cellar full of rats.

Well, your heart (and mine) has been broken.

Yeesh, talk about animal endangerment.
But other than that, the song does make for a good marching band theme.

Y’all forgetting the anime.
It’s free on UA-cam
Wow that's awesome!!
The animals were realistic looking until this moment. The rabbits and duck for instance look more cartoony during this number.
Overall, not good advice, Peter.

would of been better if the reprise wasn't on it
Super chanson, je kiffe. Par contre le film en lui même est vraiment nul et super chiant.
