I love how you interpreted the letter from the protagonist. I hadn’t even seen anyone so much as question who the letter was from before, and I knew he had to fit in somewhere, so that made a lot of sense.

Could the "good ending" be this solution?
If you use the save and load functions properly during the first act and experience every possible outcome before Sayori does the unthinkable, the fourth act will be different. Instead of Sayori becoming alike to Monika, she will thank you for making everyone happy and bid you farewell. The credits will play but without anything getting deleted, you also get to see a special thank you letter from Dan himself instead of Monika's. After this, the game cannot be opened again unless it is reinstalled, effectively ending this repeating cycle for good.
Yeah, but the "bad ending" does this too, you cannot open the game and you have to reinstall it
How interesting... For some reason, Matpat's theory always felt a little off to me, but this felt considerably more plausible. Time to switch headcanons!

It wouldn't be one of my DDLC theories without it. =D
The way I see it, rather than the MC being an observer who can save the Doki's, instead the MC is an observer of the experiment/simulation, he's part of the Third Eye/Project Libertina experiment meant to regulate what happens, hence why he is able to control most of the story in the game. But that's just a theory...
When you stated that the club president self-awareness is passed on I thought you would mention the possibility that there have been other characters before Monika that couldn't take it and deleted themselves before the start of the game.
And come to think of it, we've never seen a situation in which the club president is dead, would it still pass on or would it end the loop.
I guess we'll never know! Thanks for the theory, I loved it.
Chances are there are more presidents, but also that there are more "Doki Doki Literature Clubs."
Maybe the girl with white hair in the Natsuki.chr file was one of the previous presidents? Who knows?

I was thinking, more evidence that it was the main protagonist of DDLC that wrote the secret message in Monika's character file is the "You already know my name" (which most people use to try to prove that it is Monika writing it). Of course you would know his name, you named the character.

my theory is that monika was deleted from the game and got replaced with sayori but somehow she hacked herself in. my second theory is that there was is no literature club monika tricked guys to join the third eye and she told sayori to make me (the player) join the club(third eye) and guys that are vs the third eye are going to die like elysa and so
I was thinking more like the protagonist himself made the decision to enter DDLC to save these girls, as a last chance attempt because if he was added to the game like them, then he has to have a character file.
I noticed all the girls all have hair covering where third eye would be like their trying to hide it from the player

Congratulations! The wait was totally worth it! Now onto the good stuff:
Spoilers about the video ahead.
Congratulations on being the first "theorist" to go beyond the status quo .
Dan Salvato once metioned that the game was supposed to be a normal Dating *Simulator* and Monika took it off rails. This does not make sense from an A.I. point of view since Monika does not really "grow" in the same way an A.I. does (she is more or less "static" in capabilities during the game). But as you stated: If we consider this whole mess as *nested* or *framed* realitites it makes that much more sense. A way to see why and how the Third Eye makes people kill in a controlable enviroment.
The "Nothing is real?", and dream special poems could confirm this as glimpses of their original reality. The special poem where Monika cuts herself supports this nested reality too.
Also, thanks for bringing up that Monika is not the author of the text in the file. This message is there from the beginning, even in a fresh download of the game; so Monika can not possibly be the author of it.

The blacked out text has been found and is "Yuri". Since the author of the "poem" self-identifies as "the responsible one" one could conclude that Monika cut herself to try out what Yuri feels. This does not make sense from an A.I. perspective of any of the parts involved.

Wait, let me go off the rails for a moment. Who here knows the plot of Danganronpa 2? In it a group called the Ultimate Despair, 15 students who were brainwashed, are placed inside a machine to try and restore their memories and sanity. What if DDLC is similar, in that it is a simulation where the four girls (and possibly the MC, though my impression is that the MC is part of the simulation, more on that in a moment) are put inside this simulation called Doki Doki Literature Club. It explains the reason Monika has such control over the environment and code, because at some point she realised where she is and how to make it work in her favour. The four girls are put in it, perhaps after being rescued from Project Libetina, in a kind of un-brainwashing. In order to remove the damage that was done to their minds. Unfortunately, something goes wrong. They can't let go, and no matter how often the simulation plays, they cannot complete it for one reason or another. That explains why the game glitches when something goes wrong, because the game wasn't programmed that way. Monika understands her situation, and wants to fight back against the un-brainwashing, which is why she is breaking the simulation time and time again, but it starts to get to her. The simulation runs of the main idea that Project Libetina takes away someone's humanity, and the MC is an AI designed to restore it by forcing the girls to fall in love with him.
Therefore, because the girls have been broken by human experimentation, while the first half of the simulation works, and the girls fall in love with the MC, they can't remove the trauma and are still unable to break free. The simulation ultimately fails, Monika deciphers the method to reprogram the simulation from the inside, and works out how to 'delete' the girls from the 'game' by kicking them from each simulation attempt.
Crazy? Yes. Possibility that I am on to something? Probably not. Let me know what you think, please Duo, and anyone else who feels like reading.
It's certainly a possibility. There's evidence for that being the case. Personally though, I'm going to stick with my theory for now. (Probably because I've devoted FAR too long to it. XD)

Before all this project libitina (?) stuff was discovered, I just thought that Monika was the tutorial character, the one that's just there to help you and explains you the rules hence why she wasn't a main character and through a glitch whoever's the club president position became self aware.

what I'd think is that even the names are part of their "avatars" in the DDLC experiment, one of the things monika talks about in her room is the setting, there is eerily nothing said about any of the setting other then your home and the literature club. monika even says it couldn't possibly be japan, there's really nothing saying the setting is japan and also it's an english release, that is the game is made in and for english speaking countries, japan never does that it's their own releases first, this could mean the simulation is either European or american. my guess on what the actual characters might be like:
sayori and monika are friends, sayori always needs monika to look after her (this is possibly the cause of depression in DDLC)
Natsuki was a neglected and abused runaway, found by the third eye cult before the experiments and they are just now making use of her
yuri might not be the villain of the game, but she does show many hallmarks of someone who is psychotic - she makes herself look well educated to the other characters, in arc 2 she is seen more obviously looking down at others and monika seems to have an easy time giving her an obsessive personality, trying to stop natsuki bringing it up bugs out the game but yuri looking more obsessed doesn't start the game over, almost like the obsession is a part of her anyway
the third eye experiments are the cult trying to force a "third eye" onto their subjects, making them completely aware of the world they inhabit, this succeeds in some sense in DDLC but it's one of the simpler tests with an obviously and intentionally very limited world, and I could be wrong in thinking the cult of the next game wants these subjects to eventually open their third eye to THE world and discover what it's actually made of
Even if i didn't played the game , i saw *A LOT* of " let's plays/theorys " on DDLC , and i have to agree on the fact that the person who's talking on Monika's poem might not be Monika herself , rather the MC . But there's also something who bothers me a bit , and i guess the only answer to that question will be when the next game will be released : In DDLC , Monika (or one of the poem) ask us , to recover the missing parts of her mind if we can . So if the MC of DDLC is also the MC of the next game , what interaction could happen once we finish the story ? The " tragic " ending of the next game is apparently what allowed DDLC to be created and played in the first place , So if we stop DDLC from being created in the first place , What will happen if we try to replay DDLC once the next game is over ?
Only time will tell imo ...

Interesting theory, it does make a certain amount of sense having the MC be that person speaking. However, Monika's file being gone doesn't preclude her from being the one who talking. Even after her character file is gone, she is still there, she brokenly helps you against Sayori and even with the game gone, she can still sing you that song. If it was the MC, when could he have done it? In act I he doesn't realise what's going on, in act II he's under Monika's control just as much as everyone else. In act III you the player have to delete her character file, if the MC was capable of it, why would he be trapped int he room, it seems like he's unable to alter the files too, and after that her file is gone. Could it be possible that Monika retains her memories from previous instillation of the game, but is bound to act in the same way each time. he only solution being trying to leave you a message int eh place she was afraid to touch, he own character file? It's a bit of a stretch, but something worth pondering.

Monica's file dialog actually being the protagonist makes a lot of sense surprisingly.
From their matter of speech (very different of how playful, mature and embarrassed Monika talks in ark 3 and in the game files) to, "this is stupid you already know my name"
of course you do, YOU CHOSE IT.
Makes sense because if it was either of the girls you wouldn't have a reason to "hide" the name, the game file CAN'T know the name the player chose.
Also if this is a déjà vu, could be because this character dynamics and the way they die, take over, etc. It's how they used to interact and what happened (superficially) to all of them and why if you delete sayori everything just breaks.

Another thing I noticed is that they all have bangs. Isn’t the third eye usually on the forehead?
I have a theory that Sayori knew it was a game shortly after Monika did. That’s why she got depressed. That’s why she killed herself. And that’s why at the end of the game she knows it’s a game. She’s always known. Now that Monika’s gone she feels safe enough to tell you.
In a Mod you can download (I believe it’s a mod) you can talk to Monika and play games with her. If you change your name to Sayori the creepy music starts to play again. It’s obvious that for some reason Monika really hates Sayori and I think it’s because she knows it’s a game too. Sayori is a threat to Monika.
Maybe that’s why she struggled so much trying to kill herself. She knew it was Monika.

well nothing much is known about them and in a way they theoretically don't even exist in the 1st place .i mean... the protagonist doesn't even have a file and w.d.gaster is nearly impossible to encounter at all, they're both very mysterious and they both wear black clothes. i know this might seem absurd but it's actually possible that they're the same person... like... my theory is that undertale takes place in the future after ddlc takes place, and they both have characters which are... more self-aware than the others... along with other things. go ahead and correct me if i'm wrong tho.

Okay honestly DDLC is my guilty pleasure, even though I’m rubbish at horror and theorizing. BUT I still have so much fun with it because it brings up sooo many questions:
1. What happens if you manipulate the files to make Yuri the president, especially at the beginning of the game? Or Natsuki?
2. How freaking cool would it be, if you are correct that DDLC is what happens after the “bad ending” of Project Libitina, if after you get the “bad ending” screen, Project Libitina BRINGS YOU TO DDLC????!
3. What other kind of meta moments will be in Project Libitina?
4. What is the implication of all this human experimentation? Is it just a story or could there be some kind of commentary or lesson to be learned?
5. WHAT IS THE TRUTH ABOUT THE THIRD EYE?!?!

My theory is this;
Human behavior can be tracked through predetermined narratives, and predictable behaviors can be mapped into a game format to tear at the very fabric of our being.
Revealing that we all poses the third eye.
That's also very possible. =D
i think the MC is just a camera with a body that is used by those scientists to examine the responses of the 4 girls that tried (and failed) to escape the human experiment prison, and were then put into a very limited and agonizing virtual world. that is why he can come off as cold and uncaring, because the scientist controlling his actions is cold and uncaring as well. that is why have next to no gameplay, because we are just spectators witnessing a cruel experiment. how's that for a theory?
