The most common mistake people make is that they think the metro needs to be a loop, but it can run on a line too!
The BABE system has both 🙂
Nah, it's more like a cultural thing I think, maybe because in America, transit systems are not well designed in major cities, or sometimes almost non-existent.. Just take a look to asian or european city players and you'll notice
However, I do really like American styles cities, and the way Timeister is developing it
I would have made the loop like Timeister did but the "main line" going past the stations then giving each station its own on and off track to and from the main-line loop around the city.
@@gabrielaguileraurrutia5085 I lived in Seoul ...been to Tokyo and live in NYC ....Ive always made a loop line since Sim City 4 based on Seouls green line. When I rode it it was fully above ground too in 2002. It's what NYC lacks ...well until we do this Interboro RX!!! I consider myself a master subway builder. I'm new to Cities Skylines but I love the dual bypass stations from my SC4 wishlist. Can't wait to see them on console in this new game.
An alternative to an overground station at the airport would be to place 2 underground stations at each terminal and have the track loop back on itself, like the picadilly line does on the London underground at Heathrow
Train stations have a subway station upgrade, that can be really useful.
I really enjoyed this episode :)
Oh shoot I never realized that! Well it looks like the BABE is already getting a makeover!
Came here to say this. Glad someone already thought of it. Well done regardless, @Timeister.
Glad I could help
28:40 The train should be able to turn around just from the crossovers at the end of the station. No turnaround needed.
Hey man,
sorry for my delayed response so I don't know if you"ll read this, but thanks for building this :D
Looks like the *BABE* just works! I'm looking forwards to see the future branch line extensions being build overground like streetcar-suburbs, except they're subways.
Hopefully soon we'll see the rise of the *BUTT* -network (Bixton Universal trolley-tram - network), either way, I hope you had fun building this :D
xD you need to stop
BROOOOO The BABE and the BUTT LMAOOOO
I think in the future if they one day add subway stations above the road like the last game you should replace some of the stations with that. Because I mean right now it looks weird I mean a subway under a low density zone doesn’t look right.
I agree. Make outside stations overground, just like it is on the London Underground
Nah for metros not having level crossings makes 100% sense @Trainrhys
Good thing they added elevated ones now. Otherwise the roads over the metro could just be bridges.
The elevated island-platform ones can be placed on roads with medians as well!
We need elevated subway stations in CS2. Idk what an overground subway would be without it being elevated.
Look at Milano, Italy. We have plenty of overground subways in the suburbs in there, they are just like small train stations
At grade metros do happen, but they're still built with full grade separation
remember you can add a subway station to a train station, so passengers dont need to cross streets and such.
Missed Connection: at 40:38 that red bus line, add a stop at the subway.
Great work
İ also just added an underground subway network to my city... What a coincidence?
Also, don't forget that there are also upgrades to almost every building in CS2. They really help out! Additionally, when you are working underground, there is almost always a button to enable the underground view. Helps out when building and fine tuning things.
Can't wait for the Mega project. Super excited 😁
I really think some more care needs to be done placing lines overground. basically no metros are completely underground, and some key areas should really be overground. for example: the airport station that goes directly to the yard should be overground before going underground. The station on the giant nature reserve should really be overground, and that line should be overground as well right before entering the city.
Hey, I would put the subway hub parallel to the highway. I think it would look like it belongs. Also, you can run a subway under the highway.
Don't forget subway can be added to passenger overground too!
Generally metro stations should be within 2 kilometres maximum, some places it's 1.5 kilometres. Paris metro, nobody has to walk more than 500 metres for a metro.. so 1 km distance between stations.
Loving your videos. Train stations and maybe the airport have subway upgrades. Also you should put parking near the stations so that sims can drive to near the station then walk from parking to the satation. You will get more usage. Also the trains can reverse, no need for a looped track just go back and the train will reverse and run back.
Also I can see what you were trying to do when mergin 2 single tracks into a double, but remember the double is 1 each way. So you can do 2 singles merging nice into a double so long as the singles are 1 in each direction, not the same.
Metro looks good, though all of your one-way tracks are leaving the subway depot, none coming back in. Think that's why you couldn't merge the two one-way tracks into a two-way track.
Yeap!!!
Train stations can have a subway station upgrade. Also you don’t need a loop in the stations. All subways I’ve been on at least can drive forward or back, there is no difference.
There is a Subway station addition on the railway station for future reference
I love how phase 1 turned out subways do really have that much capacity the only real difference to heavy rail is they legally cannot commingle other than that a subway system is basically a commuter rail system. I think you should develop areas right by your stations to all have medium or higher density as that would probably really happen in real life, but i also think you should redo your entire bus network to feed off of your subway like most real cities do! Try to make busses be the 1st/last leg of the journey and all of the long distance travel be on the subway.
I also think it would make more sense if you had to parallel rail corridors running through bixton to eliminate the S bend and to make your spur lines seem to have more of a purpose. You could have the subways going east to west and have bus lines in bixton to go north and south like manhattan. This also will help split subway traffic by having trunk lines running through bixton like manhattans 1/2/3 and 4/5/6 lines so the red line and the green line are separate but both run through bixton. My last suggestion for your eventual phase two is to change your one way lines from the depot into two way so the loop is just not needed at the depot and then you’ll have room to add another depot right behind the first one when you need it.
If you have traffic build up at the airport station it would be easy to make a bypass right under the station.
I feel like the railyard’s location and connections are especially off. Maybe try to look on Google maps on how various systems are built. Toronto, Sydney or even Oslo might be great inspiration.
I think you forgot to connect the station in Bedford! You could put that one on a spur, and then extend the University line to there- that way it doesn’t have to awkwardly turn around at Central Station.
The downtown highway hurts my eyes, apart from that nice vid
Making the main double line loop around the depot might be a better solution or making a crossover, if that is possible.
you normally don’t see subways in a low density suburban area. they have above ground metro stations that connect to different towns. subways are mainly for transportation through downtown
If the area wasn’t fully suburbanized, maybe there could be room for development? That’s what developers did with the 7 Train in New York City, and it’s usually ranked the best subway line in the city due to it being heavily future proofed among other things. He may not do that though and keep its suburban though 😔
Metro is my favourite part of a city - 2nd downtown ❤
I wish there were some different metro vehicles in Cities: Skylines 2. Then the loop could have some high-capacity trains and the spur lines some lower-capacity trains. Wouldn’t that have been good, realistic and useful?
if you can’t in one episode done, the future, definitely do the space/rockests and make it a whole little section, haven’t seen many creators do it yet :(
You should place lots of tourist atractions in the main urban park on the peninsula hill. Also you should start massiive upscaling in down town; on peninsula side of river wall high density apartment skyscrapers with high density offices and comercials doted now and then while on the other sound of the wall entirely high density offices.
Also you need massive industrial build up, you've had massive industrial demand for quiet some time now.
From the yard you go underground, go up at the airport and down again. Why not stay underground, and leave the parkinglots alone?? So much struggle for nothing.
Cause it looks good i guess
Idk if there are any upgrades to the stations, but in most cities, lines doesnt share the same line. A great example is Budapest's metro system. The lines cross, but not directly. A station has multiple levels for different lines. Also, I think that the train stations can have an metro line upgrade but not really sure.
There is an upgrade for extra stations
@@mistermadmax1430 Ay thanks for confirming it
Hey timeister!!! I have watched every single buxton video from the start and in one of the videos you said you would build more in like the mountain park area but make it more with windy neighborhoods and nice houses I would rlly like to see that for the next part!
Congratulations timeister for 40k subscribers
Re: your comments about the subway yard. Yes, you're legal about the return loops. But, I strongly recommend you upgrade said yard as soon as possible. And, upgrade the single track lines to two way travel as well.
The trains can go either way! They don’t need a loop to turnaround
It'd have been cool to make the subway emerge from the ground at the train tunnel to run parallel runder the park... aesthetic would be cool with subway trains and regular running side by side. Really any small above ground sections would be cool!
Also, you better get to some of this TOD around the stations you made... I didn't forget my comment from last week 👀😂
You don’t need to build turn arounds at line terminuses (ends). The train will just reverse out of the station and switch tracks. Also, in CS1, I had a station out of the way, so the metro trains just reversed out of the and continued on the other set of tracks, like the station was at the bottom of a Y. (Don’t know if this works in CS2, I assume so.)
Nice system BABE! Oh wait, nice BABE system! I guess it works either way. 🙂
Traditionally agencies avoid terminating rail services in central business districts because of exactly the reason you had a problem - turn around is painful. Realistically, you would keep running the line out of the city to another spur and the trains would turn around there.
Maybe you could consider joining some of the spike lines using some of the main loop rails. This way passengers have more than one line in downtown to use, which should balance the load even better and passengers would not have to switch lines, when leaving the main loop. E.g. ‚Airport to sunset street bedfort’ or ‚Bedfort to technical university‘…
i think this could add even more realism since i don’t know any Lines in major metro systems that only serve 3 stations.
Other than that i enjoyed todays video a lot.:)
Also most subway trains have the same colour
True, but some cities color their trains for their lines (Boston, Philadelphia)
Instead of adding new depots try managing the number of trains on each route
i think its a little bit unrealistic taking a track under the water cause realisticly the water is very deep and it would be much cooler if u put a track going beside the golden gate bridge instead im still facinated by the work you provide !
I guess u missed one more branch at the far end of brixton
Just has to be fun as you said earlier we are looking for perfection timestamp 37:05
35:14 the laugh was so wierd 💀💀
There's no way a real subway depot had so many separate tunnels, building underground is extremely expensive, they would do all the split and joining overground and then join all into a single tunnel
You missed a metor stop near the water
new vid, better evening
why did you make it overground??? you already made a very steep dive from the depot and then made a roller coaster climb for the station?? like just keep it underground since it already was.. or make at grade crossings
Do you realy need a turningpoint there is it not just for the driver to change end of the train thats what them do here in Stockholm. Them when the train starts the outer way them just change track.
Considering the limited track space (there's only two platforms and also there's a line that keeps going straight through the station) yes that loop absolutely was needed. New York's subway actually has a loop exactly like it where one train terminates but the rest keep going, so to short turn without losing a bunch of capacity they use the old loop through the original station to quickly turn around.
Just waiting ✋️
You missed one Station
as of this video the city has a gdp similar to that of the COUNTRY of tuvalu
I would’ve combined the red and yellow lines.
Sorry i'm 8 months late but.. you made a huge mistake with the metro loop.
So you made the metro line just like the bus/train lines, and this makes the metro loop pretty much usless, because people may just as well hop into a bus or a train.
Also 26:28 - I see a purple route going just the same so i don't think there's a need for that, they may as well get some excersize and go by foot
Prob the international airport has the same size of 2 regionals airport, try change them or a international one.
I really like your city but your public transit makes no sense. It's different options for transportations all going to the same places and basically just different choices to get to the same place. If you get off of one part of the public transport, for example the metro or train there is no way to get onto a bus or anything. If there is a bus it just goes to basically the same places. The achievement is called spidderwebbing with a reason, you want to create a spiderweb with a main line and different lines branching off. Currently it's just one big loop with all the transports basically doing the same.
Your airport arrangement isn't that different from how DTW is arranged.
What is that building in the middle at 0:31 is? Does anyone know? Its the one just before the bridge on the right
The train depot is overly complex, I want to build a city not be bogged down with making it work not to mention how much real estate it consumes
6:04 Why not just do it underground?
I liked before watching
Can you do away with the shit water and get a treatment plant.
It's funny that the dude PTB_BE said the comment BCS his name means "parti des travailleurs belges" wich is the name of the communist Belgian party
originally my name came from PublicTransportationBelgium but I couldn't use that name any longer and yeah I'm aware of the political context :p
WHY ID IT CALL "BABE"?!?!?
*is
Colour scheme in CS2 is just horrible. You can't see anything.
