Much respect for you and Nat. I do have one question I wish you asked. Since PSA is decertifiing cards that have been exposed as altered, cleaned etc. Why then isn't the Holyist of Holies the infamous T206 Honus Wagner that has been admitted as trimmed not decerted?
As a gamestop investor, this was enlightening to learn more about PSA. We the investors, think there is a potential merger between psa and gamestop coming soon ;)
Was a good interview but the biggest problem I saw was the lack of hard hitting questions on grading consistency and when are we going to use computers or ai more to grade. Also the complete difference in grades from the New Jersey to the California office is mind blowing. Cards that are flawless and that are resubmitted pulling a 10 after getting a 7-8 happens way more often then we would care to admit.
I can appreciate that but they should be held accountable for doing a bad job then there’s just so many inconsistencies sometimes it makes u not want to send stuff in at times. Most of us can look at a card and see corners centering and surface issues I have a 40x microscope I use and go over each card for 10 minutes. If I’m not finding anything and it gets an 8 that’s a psa problem and I know I’m not the only one the incentivize speed and if they are giving out to many 10s I believe that’s a problem as well. That’s why psa stands for please submit again there’s no consistencies and they grade so fast you never know.
It's not the perception of inconsistency. It is inconsistency. I've submitted several cards just this year that were graded by PSA. I cracked them and resubmitted and received a grade 3 numbers higher. The grade that I felt the card deserved and obviously a grader at PSA felt the same. We are sick of the poor quality of grading consistency. It's the number one issue at PSA and it needs to be addressed
100% It's ridiculous, psa graders are trash and they need a team overhaul big time or change to Ai grading only. It's inconsistent at best , fact that someone gets a 7 or 8 from a grader when it's ultra clean, then resub it after cracking out of frustration, to then repay to get it graded once again ontop of paying for shipping again and then waiting forever just to get the correct 10 grade from an actual competent grader is unreal. They know it's happening and I think they are doing it to increase the total quarterly numbers and steal additional profits from customers. What sucks is sgc is fast and accurate , yet even with big modern cards no one wants them even as a 10. Got sick of psa trash and subbed some cards to SGC all big rookie wembys , Pop 3 in a 10 and I have two of them as case hits. Can't even move them , didn't think it'd be so hard to sell desirable cards in sgc slabs so now I gotta go back to psa which I'm pissed about. Hate giving money to shady company's that dog their customers and Nickle / dime. The consumer needs to stop putting so much weight Into the psa name, a 10 is a 10 folks. Stop supporting shady practices.
I reeeeally got PSA’d on my recent order. A couple of David Robinson Hoops SP RCs that I sent off that were likely a 9 or a 10 (why else would I send them in?) came back as a 5 and 6. It’s almost like someone over there wants to grade them low so they can buy them for cheap on eBay by searching the cert number and then crack and resubmit themselves. I’m definitely going to crack them and send them off to SGC for a second opinion. If they come back similar then I’ll eat my words, but I feel like I have good enough pregrading skills to know those weren’t a 5 and 6.
The most recent changes in service terms is anti-customer. I'll continue to clean my cards and PSA will never be the wiser. I'll continue to crack slabs and resubmit to whichever grader I choose and will never return a cracked slab to PSA.
Outstanding interview!! Thank you for making this happen. It’s nice to know that the CEO is a collector like the rest of us and not “deaf” to the customer. PSA isn’t perfect - but no company is
Weird how you dont see the conflict of interest he represents. Case in point, psa wouldnt touch 84 star Jordan's until nat bought a bunch of them and decided to start slabbing them.
Aside from that as a casual sports card collector. I simply do not understand anything about how to properly pack and ship my cards. The stress and time of that is not worth it to me
People say a lot of things about PSA. But how they change the user experience, how much they improve efficiency on so many pain points is amazing to see. And a good example of how the best CEO for a company is someone who is passionate about the product.
If PSA "Puts their name behind it" then why won't they buy back cards that they mislabel because they misidentified the card and then a person purchases the card on the secondary market (such as Ebay) and it turns out that its not the actual correct card? If you contact PSA even on a low value card, they won't buy it back after you purchased a card PSA mislabeled/misidentified.
I love how passionate you are. He would give you and answer and you could immediately tell if you were about what he was saying or not 😂 “yeah…” great interview man and well thought out questions.
Possibly because we haven't seen an AI company grade better. There isn't one out there using that to grade cards. I think if we had a couple companies doing it then I would agree with the point you were making. Not sure how the hobby would take to it because people would still find a way to complain.
@@TheCardDeal Seeking an optimal soluton isn't about whether it exists. Great interview. 1:10:15 would’ve been the perfect time to get insight of how sometimes PSA grades cards as “6” and then being cracked and resubbed and getting a “10”. Like asking why that happens sometimes, get whatever insight you can get. You could’ve provided personal experience.
@@NEO_Cards_Comicsall good bro. Maybe Nat will look at the comment section and realize there are some consistency concerns with grades that viewers brought up and re-emphasize it when PSA does their company retreat.

great interview. A lot of good information here. One thing: They did not fix flow lines. And I honestly couldn't care less about em', but I got a submission back literally today and every single card has them on the bottom corners lol.
The belief that they "create value" instead of verifying the quality is one of the reasons they charge more to grade certain cards over other cards. They aren't creating value. They are creating a perception of value for some people. Someone deciding to pay more because PSA graded it compared to SGC graded it, is a preference that some people have, but it didn't change the quality of the actual card.

Imagine hiring a contractor to build a deck on your house. Then on the day of he says "I need to add an extra $5k to the agreed upon price because your home's value will be triple after I complete the deck."
Also, why do the autograph grades say DNA on the slab? This to me is misleading, as there is zero DNA taken for comparison in relation to the autograph. Takeaway - in order to get efficiency of grading + capacity for grading he’s going to have to go toward AI grading.
