“‘So…what are we going to do about the gay thing?’”
In the ‘90s, two-time Grammy-winning artist Melissa Etheridge made waves when she publicly came out as gay after struggling with self-censorship during her first three records. In her interview with host Ryan J. Downey, Etheridge recalls this pivotal moment in her career, along with other free speech issues, including Eminem’s homophobic lyrics controversy in the early 2000s and Steve Bannon sharing a platform with her on Sirius XM radio. “Free speech is hard,” Etheridge says.
“Free Speech + Other Dirty Words” is a partnership between the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) and SPIN to showcase iconic artists sharing their stories about freedom of speech, self-expression, and the barriers they crossed to avoid censorship.

Yes she is Iconic she is a legend she is a brilliant Talent... musician, songwriter, who has last lasted and evolved in her industry, yet managed to stay true to herself for over 50 years.... ye somehow no Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? There are people playing tons of Music out there that is nothing remotely close to rock and roll and they've been around not even a half of the time that she has, but yet they are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

It's a shame that a video featuring a musical icon has zero clue about audio levels.

One huge word(s) not spoken about enough and certainly not serious enough is Global Warming. I don't know, ME, if you are familiar with Deidre McCalla, but I'd love to hear your version of her song"Oh the Earth." It's a truly powerful song that screams a necessary truth we all need to pay attention to. Thanks, Carol.
