Just planted my first DD here in NorCal. I picked a but open spot and am hoping this fast grower creates some much needed shade this summer! Great video.
Hello! I found you video because I I was given 3 little cuttings of grandiflora or teddy bear and I hope to root them. I believe they were all considered “suckers” if that means anything. I’ve got quite a bit of stem and leaves to work with on 1 so I may even turn 1 into 2 cuttings. I’ve read to not keep much stem, cut 1inch vertical line, clip most leaves in half (not sure why?) and put direct in soil. Would you agree or anything you can add? Root hormone recommendation? I’ve heard the success rate for this is 50% at best, and I don’t know if I’ll ever have this chance again so I want to give it my best💛 my heart is in the southeast and this beautiful tree is a great reminder of things that feel like home to me. I hope to do it justice growing here in Phoenix AZ! Thank you so much for your time :) Krissy
My little gem is lacking luster. Just planted early summer in East Tennessee we had a harsh summer full of heat and barely any rain. What can I do to get it to leaf out more and greener for next season ??
magnolias when first starting out hate dry feet, they need regular watering when it hasnt rained much in at least everyother day when first planted, then a week soaking afterward, I would recommend epsom salts, and nitrogen based fertilizer, but once they start to grow the leaves I would not fertizlize with nitogen as this will reduce flowering and all energy will go to leafing out. my little gem in a pot I only makes sure it doesn't dry out and put epsom salts in it everyonced in a while this year I actually put some potting soil in , it is starting to finally get big, it is a slow grower for me. but still beautiful whe it flowers.
i have a giant Magnolia tree in the backyard. doesn't bloom, but it's still beautiful. i notice this magnolia theme keeps popping up in a lot of these videos. i live in FL, so these grow very easy.
love magnolias I have a little gem in a pot, I am in zone 6a/5b borderling barly, it does bloom every year for me, I use grow lights in the winter, I should of got the blacken beauty it is supposed to be more cold tolerant eventually my little gem will be to big and I will have to plant it outside. (I know that older plants usually are stronger and more cold hardy) my question is how do I keep the ground from freezing under/around the magnolia so the plant can still draw up water, for the tops I would cover with a makeshift green house how can I do it without it getting to much mositure built up in it, the biggest damage is usually the wind chills, air temps rarly hit zero here. wind chills days are short, say a week or two at most. I was thinking of adding hot rods into the ground using solar powered heater kind of like spikes into the ground, and possibly a heating light inside the make shift greenhouse such as a light bulb, what do you think?
