I’ve heard that by adjusting the idle screw you are increasing the vaults over 600 mV on the TPS how does this affect the running of the bike when it’s out of spec?
Great question. If the screw is too far out and the voltage is too low the bike will not idle properly and the motor will stall. If the screw is too far in and the voltage is too high, the bike will have an erratic and hanging idle after blipping the throttle. The baseline for most bikes is between 580-600 mv. We have been setting them up at 600 mv. Some bikes like to be different and will only run correctly outside of the normal range with zero issues. Set it to what your bike likes.
I own a 2021' EXC 250 TPI the default bypass screw is 2 and 3/4 but my bikes have a tricky pipe bang when I release the accelerator. Should I resolve it with the idle screw mods? How many rounds Do i need to set the bypass screw after the installation of idle screw ? Thank you
We typically set the 2021 250 air screw at 3.0 to 3.5 turns out from fully seated. This is regardless of installing the idle screw or not. The pipe bang on decel is a common issue with the TPI bikes. The noise you are hearing is caused by excess fuel firing on decel as it's scavenging out the exhaust port. It is annoying but it is not doing any harm to the motor. It sometimes can be reduced by adjusting the air screw in or out from your current setting. The TSP Power Kit tends to reduce the pipe bang significantly while increasing performance and longevity of the motor.
YOU would likely have a very rich off idle throttle response and if you adjust the idle screw too far in, your TPS voltage will be too high, you will end up with a hanging idle.
Hi,,i just bought the Tsp kit with high comp head,i own 2020 ktm 250xcw now do you think i can ride and adjust the stock air screw first,with out installing the new idle screw? or is the new idle screw a must to install?? Thanks

What would happen if you closed in the air bypass all the way and then adjusted the idle screw?

It's not a must install. We tend to think it's a good idea, but some bikes get on just fine without it.
