We installed a TSP Power Kit for carburetor bikes on this 2019 KTM 250 XC when the bike was new. After 140 hours of hard riding from an expert rider, we were pleasantly surprised how well the cylinder and piston looked. The TSP Power Kits for carburetor bikes not only make the bike run much stronger and smoother over stock, but the jetting is spot on and we are seeing minimal wear on the motor.

    I have a problem with this tool, it's a KTM 250 2T The tool has not been used for almost a year This week I found time to take care of it, I did a fuel-oil change, I cleaned the filter plug, everything, finally I tried to start it, but the car could not start. It only started with carburetor spray and shut off straight away From that I understood that the carburetor needed to be cleaned and that's how I did it. Now the problem is different, the motorcycle engine goes straight up to very, very high levels I played with the air-fuel screw but unfortunately it didn't help. Is there a situation where the problem is different? Something in the carburetor maybe? need help please

      Check your throttle cable for proper routing from the carb to the throttle assembly, and make sure it has proper free play. Adjust accordingly.

    Is there any way to adjust this without the idle screw mod?

    • @southbaymotoperformance9127

      Yes you can loosen the TPS sensor and slightly rotate it it adjust voltage but it will not affect the idle speed like the screw as the screw is also opening the butterfly valve on the throttle body.

      @@southbaymotoperformance9127 thanks for the reply. Didn’t do the idle mod yet but am going to when I do the top end. It barely idles without the cold start being pulled & sputters coming open with the throttle, reminds me of having a needle too rich on a carb model. Changed the ccps, it helped a little, tried a new tray with brass fitting for the ccps & it seemed good for a bit then went right back to sputtering & barely idling. Going to check the voltage next time I get a chance but not holding my breath on it being the issue. I never check it before though, thought it was worth a shot. Thanks though

    I do not have the "idle screw mod" on my 23' Gasgas ec300. Does checking/setting this voltage only work when having this mod installed? I put a TSP protection cap on my TSP sensor I'm afraid it was moved, bike doesn't seem to idle great and stalls going down hills.

    • @southbaymotoperformance9127
      @southbaymotoperformance9127 24 дні тому

      I am not a fan of the TPS guards for that exact reason. The voltage has changed. There is enough play in the bolts that it is impossible to get the TPS in the exact location as it was stock, and the voltage is very sensitive to minor movements. Not saying that's the reason your bike is not idling, but you should check your voltage and you can rotate the TPS sensor to get it within the desired range. A worn top end or bad CCP sensor is the most common reason the bike won't idle.

    I am the second owner of my 2020 ktm 300 XCW and the first put the idle screw mod in. I don’t trust 100% that he set the tps and idle screw mod at the right distance. Does this fix that? In someway? Like if the distance was set incorrect does it not matter as long as the voltage is at that measurement?

    • @southbaymotoperformance9127
      @southbaymotoperformance9127 Місяць тому

      The only thing that matters is the voltage. Check and set the correct voltage per the video instructions. Once voltage is set, the air screw should be set somewhere between 3-4 turns out from fully seated.

    • @southbaymotoperformance9127
      @southbaymotoperformance9127 3 місяці тому

      The oil pump does not get calibrated. If you are asking about priming the oil pump, there is a sequence for that. Hold throttle wide open, plug the dongle in, count to 10, release the throttle and oil pump should initiate the priming sequence. YOU should hear the oil pump clicking and oil will be pushed through the oil injection line and into the throttle body.

    In the olden days, didn't we adjust idle speed with our ears? No need for a meter. All you really did in this video is adjust idle speed to a specified rpm based on voltage, yes? Now, adjusting the voltage sent by the TPS for a given idle speed, that is a deeper question, and much argued for its value.

    • @southbaymotoperformance9127
      @southbaymotoperformance9127 3 місяці тому

      Yeah, not really. We are not concerned with idle RPM. We are concerned with TPS voltage as that is what sync's the throttle position with the fuel map, and if you are outside of a specified rage, you will have some running issues. Too high of voltage causes a hanging idle. Too low can cause a lean bog. That cannot be done with your ear. Please note that this is for a standard TPI. When adding a TSP injection relocation kit (IRK) the procedures for setting the TPS is different since the IRK tune changes the timing and phasing of the injectors based on throttle position and RPM. How we set the TPS voltage for the IRK is quite different.

    • @myronstambaugh761
      @myronstambaugh761 3 місяці тому

      @@southbaymotoperformance9127 What I saw in your video was you connect a meter to read the voltage from the TPS then adjust that reading upward by TURNING THE IDLE SPEED SCREW. You didn't change the voltage with regard to the butterfly valve (air) at all. You only increased the idle speed. Yes, the voltage went up. It goes up when you open the throttle, as you demonstrated earlier in the video. Did I miss it? Did you loosen the screws on the TPS and rotate it? If you only turned the idle speed screw you didn't adjust the TPS at all. You just adjusted the idle speed. Something you could have done with your ear.

    This was a great video I used it comprehensively today. So well made, really helpful for a newbie like me. Only thing I found was on my bike the wake up dongle wouldn’t prime until I reattached the fuel tank pump connector. Not sure if I maybe didn’t hold the throttle open long enough though I did try it several times, I reattach the fuel tank and it worked Also my throttle cables were seized onto the 10mm nuts so when I undid the they must have thrown out the adjusters at the top of the cables. This really had me perplexed for a while. Make sure your 10mm nuts are not seized to the outer sheath I would say spray them with some WD40 before undoing them. Again thanks for this great video. Getting the throttle body out without lifting the sub frame is pretty much impossible ( I know), your tips were just the tricks needed 👍👍👍

      Sorry, we do not, but pretty much the same process. On the new TBI heads, the head/insert design is different. After we set the cylinder orings, we align just the insert on top of the cylinder to ensure the insert mating protrusion is aligned in the groove of the cylinder. Once the insert is in place, we verify the insert oring is in place, then we set the cap on top of the insert, and start inserting head bolts with new copper washers.

      Measuring squish and swapping base gaskets is not necessary. Most all TSP heads are set to run the stock base gasket of 0.60mm. The head squish is set to this spec. As long as the stock base gaskets have not been changed, or replacements were installed with 0.60 mm, then just bolt on the head and go.

    Thank you for this very helpful video. Super helpful! My bike was stalling very frequently in neutral, so this mod was mandatory for me. Thank you! For those of you out there who are going to attempt this mod... Do not.... I repeat... DO NOT do this without removing the throttle body from the bike. I tried the "soldering iron" method to heat up the bolt and stripped the dammed bolt. It's a good thing the kids weren't around when the wrench slipped, there were a lot of choice words flying. If you are as unfortunate as I was, and you end up stripping the bolt/grub screw, you need to use an extractor set (IRWIN has a good Steel Set Screw Extractor set you can search for on Google). Bore the entire bolt out, hollow it out all the way through, which releases the pressure on the sidewalls. Then you can use the extractor bit to take out the screw. I had a mechanic buddy do it for me, but this was the only way we could get it out. There was a lot of Loctite in there. Do it like he shows in this video, don't be tempted to try the "quick and easy" method, after all, it only takes maybe 10-15 min to pull the throttle body out. Also another note, I got the NiceCNC screw found on ebay ($13) by searching for (NiceCNC Idle Screw Adjuster For Husqvarna TEi 250 300 TE250i TE300i 2019-2023). Took a while to arrive, but it works well and the blue matches my husky.

    Recently installed a TPS guard and in the process, the TPS moved a bit. Got it reseated and screwed back into place. Bike seems to run like normal but should there be any cause for concern with it moving somewhat during the install? Thanks!

      Not a fan of the TPS guards for that reason. Never seen a TPS get damaged from riding. I would check voltage and adjust. You may have to file a window in the end of the guard to access the wire pins.

    Thanks for your VERY helpful video, Steve! I installed an idle screw on my '23 KTM 300XCW and although it took me 4.5 hrs to do it (slow learner), it was relatively easy and now I have an adjustable idle screw -- as the bike should be. This is my first 2-stroke motorcycle -- have only owned it 6 weeks -- and prior to watching your vid, I didn't even know how to take the seat off. So... learning curve. Anyway now I've not only got an adjustable idle screw, I'm also much more confident about taking my bike apart and putting it back together for service as needed. THANK YOU SO MUCH for making a really thorough video that was so thorough that even a rank beginner like me can feel comfortable taking such a project on. Though I admit I was terrified while heating my throttle body up to remove the stock screw. Whatever -- it worked perfectly.

    Do you guys put j d jet kit or is it tsp own jet kit?

      We Do Not use the JD Jet kit. We have our own TSP jet kits that work really well with the TSP head and ignitions.

    Thank you for this video! Got a 2021 GasGas EC300 with Coober ECU and Coober Head + idle screw mod. Could you please give me an advice how many turns my air screw should be out? :)

    • @sbmotoperformance
      @sbmotoperformance Рік тому

      I wasn't aware Coober made a head? We don't use those products so I don't know what to tell you about tuning your air screw. Turning it in makes it rich off idle and turning it out makes it lean off idle. Play with it in 1/2 turn increments and then 1/4 turn increments and see what you and the bike likes best.

      @@sbmotoperformance I see 815 mV. If I want to get below 790 mV, the idle screw is unscrewed. In parallel, I have another throttle body including sensor, which is still completely original, without idle screw mod. Completely untouched. 869 mV are displayed here. Any suggestions on this 😅

      @@DMC-179 I have no clue why your voltages are so high. I have been told that the magnets inside the TB are paired with the TPS and cannot be interchanged with other sensors. I had a customer learn this the hard way. Not sure if that applies here but it's my only thought. Or your volt meter is off. At the end of the day, don't worry so much about voltage, and just set the idle to a smooth rhythmic level that doesn't stall or leave you with a hanging idle.
