This is the best singers ever! I grew up on these dudes. Thankfully i got a chance to speak to Howard Carroll on the phone when i was 15. Very nice guy. Very blessed
That's some of the greatest guitar I've heard; and the singing is celestial. They did a song called "Have a Talk With Jesus". It was the B side to "In the Morning". Some of the greatest example of spiritual music.
I can't stop watching this video. When I was a child the Dixie Hummingbirds, Highway QC's, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, 5BlindBoys of Alabama & more would come do concerts at our church as apart of their tour. It was a big thing in our community. They pull up & unload their equipment & everyone would be so impressed & Blessed to see our Brothers in Christ on Tour & Having Success! This video brings back memories of a sound since forgotten by so many! Thank You 5blindboys for posting
This is from Ashley James' film documentary "Loves Me Like A Rock" released in 1994 and was shown at various film festivals across the country. I saw the film when it debuted in Philadelphia followed by a performance by The Birds. Unfortunately the film was not released for wider distribution due to issues related to music rights. This segment moves me. To see and hear Walker, Tucker, Carroll, and Owens together is amazing. v
This is great! This is great!. I love this style. Not a lot of instruments to cover up. The great voices (sound like Hummingbirds) is masterfully and skillfully done. Every group that is singing need to set in on this class and learn how to deliver. They done a song also call Somebody"s Lying - Can anyone find it?
Hi, thanks for info and comments. I saw and recorded (VHS) this documentary video on The Birds in august 1998 on swedish TV, maybe if I sometime watch the whole film again I can see when it's done.
@methu124 Actually, Beachey suffered his stroke in 1991. Because my father talked to Beachey on the phone when my father had them come and sing at my church when was a kid. That was April 1991. Beachey died after that. And that David Sanborn show was 1989/1990
@casuele This is from a documentary on The Birds and in the film they didn't do more songs here sitting round the table. I have posted another complete song with them from the same documentary Dixie Hummingbirds - Dollar and The Devil (LIVE). Mostly there were shorter interrupted song clips in the film.
hello, I see that u said my grandfather is your great granddaddy. My mother has been trying to reach his side of the family. Whats your mom and grandma name?
Hi again, I watched the video again and at the end when production notes are rolling it is dated 1997! so some film clips must be some years older then. Maybe someday I'll put some clips together for a medley or two and post it here, they are often short 1 or 2 min and interrupted. There are also fine short b/w clips from 50's and 60's.
@gigierba1087 Take care of me - The Dixie Hummingbirds - Lyrics Mother and Father closed the door ( that's it ), They left me down here ( but that's allright ), I never will be alone (that's right there ), I'm not worried ( that's it ). He said....went in mains ( = if I lived right, ), He said He would take care of me ( that's what I'm talkin'about ) ( let's go a little further), Take care of me oh! Lord ( that's it ! ), Lord I need You every day of my life. Take care of me oh! Lord , Please take me through my troubles and strifes ( listen to this ). Sometimes my way get dark and dreary But the Lord always stepped right in and made my path clear. Take care of me please Lord ! Please ! ( that's mighty nice ) (Let's do that one more time....we are ready to record it, we don't have to do it anymore ). (That's mighty nice ! ) Posted by : Azizi Powell - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
He is not in this video (maybe dead by this time). I think it's Howard Carroll on guitar and maybe could be the great Paul Owens in green jacket (who was with many of he great groups like Silvertones, Nightingales but I'm not sure) and there's Ira Tucker of course and the great James Walker leading here.
@tbeallday I googled it, can't find it for sale. I have it on VHS-tape, maybe someday I'll put some clips together for a medley or two. I copy fishtowndna's earlier comment here (thx fishtowndna): This is from Ashley James' film documentary "Loves Me Like A Rock" released in 1994. I'm wonderin' if you can possibly post also the lyrics of this beautiful song , comments and prompts of James Walker included. Thanks a lot . Gigi Erba 20900 Monza MB Italy

Oh yes I'm aware of that. It would have been neat to have seen him on here too.
Guitarist80 I remember very well that song Somebodys Lying".
I'm a white singer , and have been for over 50 years. I hear this and think " Ah, well.. back to the drawing board.'
