Produced and hosted by Sid Ordower, Jubilee Showcase aired on ABC's Chicago affiliate television station, WLS Channel 7, from 1963 to 1984, and won an Emmy Award for a Pioneering Project in television. It featured everyone from the youngest church performers to the most famous gospel recording artists of the time including: James Cleveland; Grammy Award winner Albertina Walker & the Caravans; Andrae Crouch & The Disciples; the Mighty Clouds of Joy; the Soul Stirrers; the Staple Singers and the Barrett Sisters - all gospel music pioneers. There was even an appearance by the acknowledged inventor of gospel music, Thomas Dorsey. Presenting the widest variety of gospel and inspirational music with the highest professional standards, this historic program reached a vast audience every Sunday morning establishing itself as an institution in Chicago, “church before church.” Jubilee Showcase was also a platform for a majority of the performers to make their television debuts, such as with Albertina Walker singing “Amazing Grace.” SONGS INCLUDE: Amazing Grace Willing To Wait Wade in the Water Where Is Your Faith In God? That's James Walker on lead. My good friend, Howard Carroll on guitar. James Davis, Ira Tucker, Beachy Thompson, backup harmonies, and bass, William Bobo. Through the 50s and 60s the Birds dominated Gospel music.
I absolutely love Howard Carroll’s playing. He’s a wonderful guitarist. I’m a musician way down in New Zealand and he’s a constant inspiration and teacher to me.
In my honest opinion, this Dixie Hummingbird lineup is the greatest male ensemble of all time (Christian or secular). They had two-headed lead vocalists in their group. James Walker and Ira Tucker are still unmatched today.
I'm such a huge Ira Tucker fan but my goodness James Walker could SANG
Yes Lord ‼️
The Birds were the best still listening to the recording of this classic on the Prayer for Peace album.
Me too
Thank you so much!
That’s James Walker leading
They still are one my favorite male group!!!
They we're the best of them all and I still play their CD in I'm not nowhere near their age & time I just grew up in a household where my folks played all kinds of music in now I'm 56 years young in still playing them real good old fashion gospel music ""You See This Music Would Keep You Hold You & Comfort You 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿""as always no disrespect intended New York City USA 🇺🇲
The best that ever did it!! God bless the “hummingbirds” I still sing their songs with my choir!

They will one of the greatest gospel groups that ever performed the Dixie hummingbirds 👍🙏
Maybe Somebody Didn't Understand You Say It One More Time.....Walker had a way with his adlibs.
Yes, he did!!
Many lead singers had their own style of ad libs. Loved that about this era
@@jddrew1000 absolutely mostly all the lead singers of that day and time had there own signature sound and ad-libs for sure
