You can walk all day and you will never overcome the damage that excessive alcohol consumption does to your liver. It will catch up to you eventually. If you can't moderate or quit altogether, you MUST take a few supplements to help protect your liver. They are... Coq10 (ubiquinol), omega3 fatty acids, n-acetyl cysteine (NAC), and milk thistle. There are others, but these 4 are the most important. If you drink a lot you should take them all every single day.

I liked Ha Long a lot. We were there in the middle of covid, hotel practically empty when borders closed to foreigners. Seems quite livable, ocean, islands, and hills. There is more English and foreign food options than many towns because of the tourist industry. Probably too cold for me in winter tho.

I had an online Facebook chat with a guy who told me that Boracay is not necessarily an expensive tourist trap if you get away from the main strip. That sounds like good advice, so Boracay is on my 'must check it out' list when I get to the Philippines.
I hear they shut the island down for about a year to improve the sewer system. I don't have any details but you can probably Google it. The water was amazing and we didn't smell anything odd.
Cant always find those US educated doctors that will draw you pictures. Somebody told me islands " drive you to drink"...get yourself a nice girl to cook for you.....
Exactly Sir i agree when it comes to people! Most of the Filipinos are easy to talk to or very friendly. But in Thailand connecting with the locals/Thai is a challenge! quite difficult really!! I tried my best many times, but lately i decided to just give up the whole idea....can be very lonely here at times....

Pass by "back beach burgers" in station 1. Restaurant run by german filipina couple. They started selling burgers from home there at the back beach and have now a succesfull restaurant on white becch. In front of the grotto 3rd floor.

Why exactly would wrinkles between the eyebrows indicate a bad liver? I have wrinkles just like that for years and I have no health issues at all. Dan also has 2 wrinkles between his eyebrows. I think having wrinkles there is very natural for everyone. You are also going to have those wrinkles when you grow older.

There are people living on less in Boracay but that is what he spends. Everyone is different. You would learn yor cost of living by moving there and seeing where you would live, eat, and entertain yourself. :-)

He retired at my age….living for 100th cost of living. It’s so hot….that’s concerning. No clue how I’d make enough money to pull it off. I can’t get savings I was disabled 10 years ago. Living off enough to sleep in my car as it is.

The name of the nightclub was garbled, so I didn't get it, but the prospect of live Rock and Roll is appealing. I live near Cebu, and the hassles with crime keep me away except on a rare occasion for shopping. I used to enjoy live bands at the arguably famous All Star Sports Bar, with a fun crowd of all ages, but during the pandemic it changed owners and got a makeover, and it's nothing like before, so now Cebu is rather barren for live classic rock or oldies. In my experience, the key to a good time in the Philippines is stick to resort towns. I find the resort towns to be ultra low crime. I go diving at charming Moalboal and its like a best kept secret. All resort towns are kept safe in my experience. Just avoid Cebu and Manila. Don't say you weren't warned.

Sad he has to appear on the interview with alcohol in his hand. There are many expats in Asia that do nothing else but drink every day and complain that their health is failing them.
Boracay is the not a good place to retire, saturated by tourist mostly Chinese on honey moon, nothing to do there, the beach is a lagoon more like a pool, not a real beach, no space. There are better places in Philipines

Depends where you stay
If you are looking for the comforts of a city, then Boracay is not for you. If you don't like city life, then Boracay may be a good location for you.

The cleanest city is Iloilo City and the beaches are also marvelous.
They are both pretty clean. But clean is very subjective depending on what you are comparing it to.

Thailand is changing tax laws starting Jan 2024. They want to tax your foreign earned investments. Not the best destination to retire anymore.

I like the Island but I would be fearful of serious medical since its planes trains and automobiles to get there
True. Someone we interviewed about a year ago said the medical on the island is not equipped for more serious problems.
Does Boracay still have the water problems, I heard they closed the island or something like that a couple years ago?
That was back in 2019 I think. The closed the island for months to fix that.

@@VagabondAwake Yes I see that he is quite happy and hopefully my comment reflects that observation. I was referring to him getting into Borakay early before it developed into such a tourist spot which is probably harder to get set up in now on a tighter budget.
Sad he has to appear on the interview with alcohol in his hand. There are many expats in Asia that do nothing else but drink every day and complain that their health is failing them.

Boracay is the not a good place to retire, saturated by tourist mostly Chinese on honey moon, nothing to do there, the beach is a lagoon more like a pool, not a real beach, no space. There are better places in Philipines
