Interesting to see the route that the express service takes (via Stockport, Disley Tunnel and the New Mills avoiding line). I've only seen Don Coffey's videos of the stopping services which go via New Mills Central and Marple. Be interesting to see an updated version of this video in HD, preferably on a sunny (or at least, non-rainy) day.
To be pedantic Woodhead Tunnel(s) have never closed;the newest one is still in use to carry National grid Electricity supply. It also has a small scale railway running inside it.Years ago it was proposed to use the 3 tunnels for a new road to by-pass the scenic (but the terror for commercial trucks) Woodhead Pass.
When I was a kid we lived at Deep Clough cottages on the Woodhead Road and the steam trains on the Sheffield line would pass very close to our house. In winter they would drop off huge cobs of coal for us. Such a pity they closed the tunnels.
The driver must have nerves of steel and complete trust in his colleagues who maintain the track etc, to take his train through Totley Tunnel at 90 mph in total darkness. Brilliant piece of film.
Being an ex-signaller at Earles sidings I thoroughly enjoy watching your video's. Thanks for sharing. Paul
Brilliant stuff David, what a great line. The Hope Valley is hard to beat in terms of stunning scenery, thanks for sharing
FANTASTIC! Manchester and Sheffield are Very Big Cities!

Brilliant piece of film.
What is the reason for not having headlights on when going through tunnels? Is it to avoid dazzling drivers of trains in opposite direction?
Great Video,,,please Could you Film a Manchester Victoria-Bradford via summit Tunnel and back,,,thanks Dave
Great video, could you do Manchester victoria to Leeds over the Calder dale line via the summit tunnel ,

Well Spotted

👍
When was this video filmed
2003
Wanted to see what interior of Totley Tunnel looks like and was all pitch black. Disappointed 😞
What? Its dark inside you cannot see in the dark.
@thecurlew7403 the trains headlights would surely have illuminated the tunnel interior. They don't go through them with no headlights on surely???
Time for tea. Old boy.
Poor quality video.
Upload your HD version then!
The Max Quality of this video is 480p that not HD, also 720 and Above is HD.
He never claimed it was HD...
Please try of room south of Sheffield for the new "spur" of HS2 to serve Sheffield City Centre. More than Nottingham will get!
