"Sergeant Gav" has bought well. 👍
Fingers crossed!
Great to see father and son sharing automotive passion.
My late father, whilst he did support and encourage my fascination for the automobile, he had no interest in the topic himself.
I look forward to seeing the journey of the Disco.
Cheers. Yeah, I'm lucky my children have an interest in cars.
That said, I'm worried that my... how can I put this... love of the obscure, odd and broken may have rubbed off on my eldest son...
@@Petrolblog we need the next generation to keep the dream alive
@johnquinn1836 Amen to that.
I was looking for a D2 last summer, but never found a rot free example. So I ended up with a modified Freelander 1 Td4 😎
That is so interesting 🧐 Why would a TD5 D2 be affordable to insure but a P38 would cost 10K 😳 ??? They are both old Land Rovers and both Diesel ? But one is called a Land Rover, Range Rover, and the other one is called a Land Rover Discovery ? It would be very interesting to know what you paid for the D2 insurance but you didn't say. This is my insurance quote for you refference. I have owned my RR P38 for 13 years now and what with all of the (RANGE ROVER) insurance price hikes I was very concerned about what my new quote would be 😬😬 Here is my quote. Last year I paid £376.15 fully comp and my quote for this year was £357.24 that's £18.91 cheaper. I think that the P38 is the most difficult RR to steal out of all of the RR ever made. OK, Im not 18 years old, but it doesn't explain what the difference is on your D5 compared to a P38 quotes ?
Really nice addition indeed! Hoping to see it getting better step by step
More on that soon...
I think the TD5 was a far better engine than the 2.5 BMW engine in the P38. It was a brilliant and smooth engine but lacked the power in such a heavy car, such as a Range Rover.
Agreed, although I might change my mind after a few weeks!
The 2.5TDS engine is almost the best they made. To get rid of the 4x4 is criminal especially for the insurance prices they wanted. That is down right disgusting. I would give up my left kidney for a P38 2.5TDS. Those engines are great. If you dont mind power LACKING and want reliability then 2.5TDS is the way to go. Wished you had mentioned the sale for the P38. However nevermind. Im sure you got a great price for it.
Love the father and son banter.
Cheers Charlie!
@@Petrolblog When is the next video sir?
Love our Australian TD5 model Discovery's, no sunroofs, no ACE and no rust (so long as they're kept away from beaches & boat ramps), perfect!
There's many known issues, but none cost too much to sort in comparison to D3s & D4s.
Funny you should mention a Disco with no sunroof, no ACE and no rust... Watch this space...
I like that. A lot.
Interestingly, I have the Haynes manual for these, as it’s the closest match to my Morgan (V8 petrol models, obviously).
Yeah, it *was* good... More on that soon.
And love the fact that you've got the manual for your Morgan!
I love the discovery 2, definitely my favourite land rover... my grandmother has had many discovery 1's and one disco 2, all of which have been miraculously reliable. I reckon reliability of these is part previous owner's care and part luck. This one looks brilliant, a good looking spec and doesn't look... too ruined. Brilliant purchase despite the 'small' problems. I am jealous.
Big fan of the D2, but an update will follow soon...
What you save on insurance can be used to repair it. Did a company really quote £10,000.00 for cover? They've just written the car off without it even being on the road.
Yep, that was the cheapest quote. Range Rover insurance has gone nuts.
Great to have you back .
Thank you.
This is brave!
Fortune favours the brave, or something...
Fantastic !!
Yeah, more on that soon...
