- There is nothing more annoying than a blown fuse! It is amazing how something so small can cause a world of trouble if not in proper condition. With extreme temperatures, high powered products and sophisticated wiring, it is important to make sure that everything in your system is hooked up properly and efficiently. It is very easy for things to go hay-wire because of faulty installations.
In this video, JP goes over why it is that fuses get blown or melt over time. Understanding the relaionships between amps and fuse blocks will save you a lot of trouble in the future!

Another issue can be cheap fuses themselves. I’ve seen them, even being the correct amperage, just heat up and melt.
My car has caught fire before because of a loose connection after about a year and a half. I've learned a lot since then and this video is very informative.

Great vid and I would also recommend using ferrules with those high strand count OFC kits.
For sure I used a trick I seen on how to fit 4/0 into 1/0 easy used a zip tie to keep the strands together saved me big time when adding a fuse block to my alternator wire with sky high 1/0 amp kit the wire is so big the nvx1/0 ferrules were to small
The JP 23 is a beast! If JP puts out a 6k or 8k I would upgrade immediately.

I’ll always go with a bigger wire than the amp requires. Bigger wire = lower resistance = better power output from your amp👍🏼👏🏼

First of all, I’m a big fan I watch all your videos and I like and subscribe probably to the majority of them because I honestly do appreciate you and your team and everything you guys do .
Moving on so I have a stinger oh gauge fuse block holder with a 250 amp fuse, and the same thing that kept the melting drastically. I’ll probably went through 10 of them. I do have a pretty big system. I do ask for a lot of power so I found out that for some reason the vehicle make and model that I have runs very hot and throws out a lot of heat when it’s raining during the summer that extra amount of heat being thrown from the engine along with you know asking for too much power already was causing my wire smell at least that’s what I believe. I actually look for a recall in my vehicle about the radiator or engine, throwing too much heat, and There wasn’t a recall, but there was many many many people who complained about the same thing for that make and model of the vehicle. I ask myself how do people in hotter time zones deal with this if this was the case..
moving on the solution to my problem, I got a 300 amp fuse, and I’m also going to attempt to 350 amp fuse see if that works and if not, I’m going to look for someone who could custom make a ceramic fuse block holder for me .
I also ran OFC wire and have done the big three upgrade lol. Anyways. Any recommendations for a new sub and amp?
I currently have two kickers 15 inch comp Q with a HIFONICS BRUTUS 3500 w amp and also morel speakers with a Morel 2500 w amp . Morel has great speakers
Not a fuse question bcuz i need more power to even warm up my 300A fuse on my Salt 4k. So the question is when i do a 2nd batt with an isolator will the amp only draw power from 2nd batt even while the car is on as well? I know the isolator will cut off both batts while off.

Wow, thank you for letting me know about this, I was running a 60A AGU on a skar 1200 watt amp mono block with an epicenter and my fuse popped so now I need to get a 150A fuse with a good block that can handle that amp… again thank you for this information

The problem I have is I can not find any ANL fuse block that is 100% waterproof for using 4-AWG cable being I live in NY state & fall & winter season are wet & also very cold. I currently use a Sky High Car Audio - Set Screw ANL Fuse Block along with Sky High Car Audio - 4-AWG OFC power cable & SMD - 100-Amp Ceramic High Temperature ANL Fuses & I used silicone to seal it & try to keep moisture out of the fuse block but I still blow fuses. Do you sell a 100% waterproof ANL fuse block for using only 4-AWG power cable? I also wondered if I should just move my fuse block behind the firewall to eliminate the problem instead. But the run of 4-AWG power cable from the battery would be about 3 1/2 to 4 feet to the fuse block instead of a 10" length & I do not think it would be safe to do in all honesty. What do you suggest to correct this problem JP?

0 gauge set up, 6/ 6.5 speaker set up (Arnold's) , rp150 "1000" watt..
Fyi I have 2 rp150 pushing a total of 12 6.5 Arnold's & I have them each on a smd block with 300amp anl fuse from skar audio.. my other bass amps are 100% ok .
All thi is being powered by 3/ 80amp agm batteries , big 3 upgrade, 200amp alternator & 0 guage ofc running to the batteries in the back & to the amps .
Any advice ?
All works well for 15 to 30 minutes or so on medium to max tilt until the rp150 start getting a fever.. lol the I'll back of on the volume.
Could it be a ground issue? Because I have 1 ground from the chassis to the distribution block & to the batteries 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐.. help
A bad ground will also cause melting, especially if you have the big 3

@@ceavalencia4767 to much work for me your car is a giant grounding point so to run a cable from the front of your car to the back is expensive as well a run that long would also HAVE TO BE OAWG AND finally it all comes down to what kinda power and system your running
@@djkeys415s stock alt no big 3, 2 runs of 0 awg sky high front lead acid interstate to yellow optima then short runs to D4S LTO 6.0 powering 3500 SKV Skar grounded at the rear. Neg post on rear had a bit of corrosion
I think he was talking about me! I was the idiot running 4gauge instead of 0 gauge.. after I did what he said. 0 issues and I have the hardest hitting Impala in Nashville
damn and all the info i got from looking up this product was bad grounding! but i’m guilty of using minianl fuses. it’s rated at 200 amp but it makes sense of seeing it compared to the regular sized one. sucks cuz i like the sleek not too obtrusive look of mini holders. after i’m done using up my fuses i’ll upgrade to the regular anl fuses and fuse holder
Also to mention poor voltage can cause fuses to melt also since it results in higher current, not as common as a loose connection or to small of wire but it can happen.

I have a similar setup and I run a 250 amp fuse for each wire. Those wires are usually rated to 300-350 amps.
Check for a bad rca via the smg+1 can cause alternator whine many don't know and custom rcas
What voltage should my single d3400 xs power battery be charging at xs power says no more than 14.4 for any amount of time then they say no more than 14.7 for more than 5 minutes but then they say your charging voltage @ 32°F should be 15.3 and @ 104°F 14.3.....maybe you could clear this up for us cause alot of people say charging at more than 14.4 will cause the battery to gas which will kill the battery over time but alot of alternators charge well above 14.4....please make sense of this👍✌
yea 14.4 is the charging rate for a 12volt batt in the morning your car will charg high untill it warms up and it should sit at 14.4 and above but not to close to 15 but if you get a realy good charger its gona charge your batt corectly

I’ve been using the in-line fuse that came in my wiring kit that has a 60A fuse and it works fine at night but has blown twice on me while driving on a warm day. Could the heat be the issue?

The wire kit, was the 1st thing I bought after I got the jp95. It's wierd that a person would run smaller wire to the amp. Big three was next. Exo has a few vids on how to install if people don't know how.
I have a Skar 2000.1D and a Skar ZVX 15 on 4 guage OFC wire and it keeps blowing my 100amp fuses and jus melted the holder. I'm ordering a 200amp braker block, but should I upgrad my wiring to 0 gauge?

Does my 40 dollar double din have afftect on how my amp performs..i am running a 3k taramps and 2 skar zvx12s..the head unit weighs like a 1/4 lb its thin as far as width..should i get a real double din like a pioneer??would it give me better output to my amps as far as volts?also have done big 3 and 2 extra batterys..no voltage drops just womdering if upgrading head unit will bring more power to subs?
Yea it will , quality of head unit matters big time I know from buying the cheaper head units from Pioneer until I got a Pioneer 80PRS model and it made a huge difference on my system. I was so happy how it sounded after installing it , it sounded way louder and my subs sounded deeper and mid and high sound so loud and clean . I recommend spending the money for quality, you will not be disappointed and oh I have it on regular settings but if I want the best performance it has a switch on the bottom of receiver and it changes the rca. Inputs to get maximum performance and it activates the extra xovers

My 5volt preouts made a massive difference in overall quality and performance in my system. I will never buy anything again that doesn't have at least 3 sets of 5v preouts
I got a kenwood 1000w amp powering 2 12” skar audio subs and the stock fuse just blew right 10 minutes after I finished the setup

Top thing that cause s these issues regardless of 0 gauge is CCA wire not having ofc quality wire can lead to heat buildup and I've noticed most CCA 0 gauge wire is also smaller it's just CCA needs to be more dressed on how terrible that quality is

I have 1500 watt topstrong gear 1 ohm amp. I have a 150 amp resetable amp and I keep blowing it. 4 awg to the amp off a 0 awg block. Help
Use 0 gauge. And make sure to match the ground wires going from your amp and at the battery (power source)

@@bigkevin20 I’d put a 200A fuse. Or get an amp distribution block so you can have 2 sets of 4 gauge. 2 for power and 2 for ground. Have you done the big 3 upgrade?
Check your voltage when it kicks out if your voltage is tanking then your drawing to many amps in that case your possibly clipping if not check your ground and power connections or 200 amp fuse

What size fuse would I use for a cab 4500?
Good rule of thumb 2kw amp 200w fuse 1kw amp 100 anp fuse 3k 300a total fusing. Divide your wattage by 10 or 12 and start there if you blow fuses, go up 50 amps fused. That has worked well for me. Remember voltage x amperage = wattage.
Two runs of o guage and two 250 amp fuses is what I would do

No, if you go bigger. The fuse won't pop when it should and you could blow your amp or damage something else. If your pulling 150 use a 200a fuse

bad conection are power wire may be geting grounded so check your power and ground wire front to back etc.

Since i started using anl fuses they dont give out atleast not the 250 amp fuses ..you can short those and they wont give out.. so 250 amps + fuses good 200 amps- fuses not so good

Absolutely true, I ordered a Kenwood DNR1007 head unit back in August and the dealer I purchased from doesn’t have any eta in sight. I might just buy that Stinger 10inch unit so that I can finish my build.

So I hooked up my stereo, I blew a fuse as soon I connected everything. I got a new fuse and plugged it all up and it blew immediately. And even told glowing red and melting

This may be a stupid question but I will take that L. When running a two battery setup how many fuses do we run. Is it two fuses between the main battery and secondary battery and then one fuse from the secondary battery to the amplifier or just one fuse between the two batteries and one fuse from the second battery to the amplifier

Simple answer = not enough power wire for the amount of current coming through. Beef up alternator so amp is not starving which makes it run hotter an also bigger or more power 0 gauge runs to amp to supply more current amperage. it blows my mind that bassheads still dont understand this lol. its so simple. got 1200 watts? 120 amp fuse. got 1500? 150 amp fuse. no higher no lower. period. the fuse must be able to break under its maximum amperage capacity.
Ok Mr Lukas bass head How about when running a amp like Pyle 1200w max do you run a 120amp fuse even knowing it's only 400wat. or how about a old school Orion 1200D that for Shure gives close to 2400w max do you run a 120 amp fuse knowing it's a 2400w max?
And it blows my mind and people's systems thinking 1500wat max I should run 150amps. Don't you need to put math first on wireing etc. Before putting fuses
Back 10 years ago I would burn amps, subs all because of the lack of tools, money, time etc. And I would use your method of 800w amp= 80 amp fuse etc. But amps like Pyle let's say would burn because of this method "too big of a fuse" or running a true 800w amp with 80 amps and blowing fuses like crazy when turned up real annoying
Or how about running multiple amps wires as in 0g into 2 4 gauge wires leading to 4 gauge input wires? How would you figure out what your fuses should be?
