It's not the plot, but for comparison, it's like whole anime was about depressed man, constantly getting close to unaliving himself and his battle to get better. You get invested in him and root for him and at the end, when he finally beats depression and throws away the gun and you imagine what better future is ahead of him, he just gets shot by someone who picked up his gun, because he couldn't be bothered to dispose of it correctly. Yeah the journey was good, but the ending makes you wonder, why you sat through all of it, if in the end, it didn't even matter.
