- So this PowerPuff Girls reboot is happening, and at this point we still know very little about it. However, based on past experiences with both the Powerpuff Girls, and shows in similar positions.... I have very little reason to have any faith in this show. When it comes out, I'll give it a fair chance, but until then, I'm not getting my hopes up.

The Powerpuff Girls doesn't need a reboot. Craig McCracken said it himself, if they continued it then they would just be hitting the same notes with no changes. The show already had 6 seasons, a movie, and 2 anniversary specials. Why not reboot something like Courage or Dexter's Lab instead of rebooting something that was clearly finished 10 years ago?
The Bittersweet Gumiworm I would love a Courage Reboot and Dexter Reboot. However... due to Christine Cavanaugh's (Dexter) unfortunate demise, a Dexter Reboot would never be the same... Now I remember seeing something about a CGI Courage reboot ages ago. But I have no idea how that will work out.
I love Dexter's Lab, but I think it had a good run. It wasn't a good when they revived it. I think Courage needs a reboot bad. Cow and Chicken deserves one as well. Both those shows got cancelled early.

I think those also could be considered Ren and Stimpy reboots. I'm not really a fan of Cow and Chicken, I just used it as an example of a show that didn't run very long. I think the powerpuff girls had its run and popularity and it should be put aside for other shows. I have a feeling bringing it back is just gonna make it like Spongebob and it really could kill the series. Not to mention as soon as Craig left the show the quality turned south. Speaking of Craig his new show Wander Over Yonder is awesome!

You forgot one more reason. They replaced the original voice actresses of The Powerpuff Girls, with teeny bopper voice actresses. Yet they brought back the original voice cast for everyone else. Smh.

If they bring back The Rowdyruff Boys on this show, they at least better bring back their original voice actors. Roger L. Jackson, who voices Mojo, should also reprise the role of Butch, and the same guy that voiced Yakko in The Animaniacs, should also come back to voice Brick and Boomer. And they should also keep their Season 5 redesigns. They look much cooler that way.

***** Honestly I'm torn between having Tara Strong not returning for the reboot. If it turns out to be a bad show, then I'll be glad she isn't associated with it like with Teen Titans Go! On the other hand if the show is good, it'll just piss off the fans of the original PPG because Bubbles was one of her most beloved in Tara's career. But either way Cartoon Network will pissing off people with this show no matter what.

Craig McCracken's wife Lauren Faust made My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and left mid-Season 2, and the show actually got better, from what I know. Faust also wrote "Equal Fights" for PowerPuff Girls, which is still a rather solid episode that addresses the difference between misandry (hating men) and actual feminism.
Yeah 'we don't hate men' we just blame them for all of society's ills, ignore women's role in any of them, and name the force of all that is evil after men while naming the force of good after women.

Blueneonkid I have a confession to make...I've been falling behind Steven Universe because of those people (and a bunch of other reasons). Not that I want to, but I kind of liked to use the show as a DISTRACTION from real life, not something for Tumblrians to fawn over. Of course, if I could just get myself to start watching it again, I'd probably still enjoy it and forget all about that. And isn't Rebecca Sugar kind of white? One point I'd definitely add about reboots in general is that I think the creative process is topsy-turvy. Whereas original ideas are creatively driven and later marketed, in reboots the cartoons are created for marketing purposes first and creative purposes second. Whereas originals are born of inspiration and a creative chemistry, reboots are mostly born of a more clinical process that I can only imagine must be pretty constraining for the creators.

Teen Titans Go should never be again on CN, I can't get why something like that is on CN.. is stupid and the only things that were like Teen Titans are : names, places, characters? (little and stupid versions nothing like the originals.. only Raven look like a little like other one for be grumpy)

About the "over-marketization" thing. And how you said that CN wouldn't allow that episode to go through. I disagree. Regular Show's most recent episode "Brilliant Century Duck Crisis Special" was a 22-minute parody of mech anime, where the plot was how these business men were trying to sell extremely crappy toys based off of Mordecai and Rigby. But they refused because (and I quote) "We're NOT sellouts." It may be different because Regular Show is one of CN's monster shows and they can get away with that. But it's still what it is.
It's here, and it's one of the worst reboots ever. Girls not voiced by same actors as before, less violence, less fighting, more focus on the characters themselves, INTERNET MEME REFERENCES?!? NO MORE MS BELLUM?!? This is the kind of reboot we'd get if 4Kids took over Cartoon Network!

I'd be so disappointed
To be honest, I'm going to give this one a chance. As long as is it isn't TTG, and as long as it isn't supposed to be ZANY RANDOM JINGLE KEYS levels of obnoxious like a lot of shows, I'm fine. But to be honest, I don't put much stock into new shows these days, and honestly PG, you really shouldn't expect too much on new shows, or in this case, reboots. Dance panced, was horrible, and Bubbles was the worst part of that. They turned her from a nice, innocent kid, the spark of childhood innocence that rounded out the brave leader and the brutal tomboy, and turned her into a selfish, annoying brat. That and the whole gummy bear thing made about as much sense as blowing into your thumb until your hand becomes a pumpkin. And let's face it, TTG's purpose is to sell toys, and ONLY sell toys, and brainwash kids into buying said toys by plastering ads on every VOD or after every episode of every other show. There is a huge chance this will happen. This seems to be the year of fuck ups with a lot of major companies, and I hope CN doesn't follow that trend.

Completely agree, ***** . I do also have reason to believe the show is gonna suck. Seeing especially as how they handle reboots like Teen Titans Go, this can only end so well. I have no hope for it but of course will give it a chance for the first episode when it comes out.

The fact that voice actresses for the PPG Reboot haven't done anything before this reboot worries me the most. The most notable thing that any of the actresses have done was that the girl who will voice Bubbles did a character in Broken Age. Other than that they don't seem to have any sort of roles under their belts that really are really anything of interest.

I can see why the actors for the girls were replaced. A lot of kid and teen characters these days are played by young actors. The voice of Finn from Adventure Time is done by a young actor. The voice of Steven Universe is done by a young actor. I think it's to make the characters more realistic. As a side note, Jennifer Hale will reprise her role as Miss Keane, but she won't reprise her role as Princess Morbucks.

I wouldn't say that the washed-out colors of older animation is gone. Major Lazer looks like 80's animation, including the colors and the chunky, not-so-perfect lines. It's animated in flash, too. My guess is that the bright, digital colors has more to do with the creators wanting the shows to look brighter.
9:31 Just the idea of CN following some of the practices that made Nickelodeon the terrible network it is now with spin-offs and shows like Toddler Titans GO terrifies me, especially after the network is showing some promise with Steven Universe, Gumball, We Bare Bears (At least I hope it's good), etc.

2001-2009 (starting with Time Squad), they used lighter ink.
2004-present (starting with Foster's), they used flash animation.

4:05 It COULD be argued that the one in charge of how this reboot plays out is having a different vision for Bubbles, which includes a different voice actor, but like I previously mentioned before, COULD.
You said it yourself, why does it matter if they got the original voice actresses to reprise their roles? On one hand, they could have at least approached the original actresses that there was going to be a new show (but you never know what really goes on behind closed doors, and all we have to justify this are celebrity tweets). On the other, you have actual young girls voicing the characters! I'm keeping an open mind. I've always viewed The Powerpuff Girls as a comedy first and an action show last. Especially since my first exposure were the What a Cartoon! segments which were more comedy driven than what the show turned out. I'll give it a chance, especially since it helps draw exposure to the original show. I won't be surprised if CN releases a new blu-ray, ultrasonic, etc. edition of the original.
I agree. I managed to get a sneak peek at the first actual episode from the reboot called "Man Up" and I guess it was okay, but not as good as the original. The original Powerpuff Girls was a favorite of mine and has been once again when I rediscovered it last month (Plus clever humor so that both kids and adults would be interested in it) and honestly, I think it'd be better if they just started continuing the original with new episodes if they wanted to reboot it. Or at the very least bring Craig McCracken and the actresses for the original PPG back for the reboot. But hey, it's better than just having the franchise die down, right? And maybe the reboot will get better in the future. I'll hope for that.
But yeah, on a side note, the last 2 seasons of the original show were pretty bland. In my opinion, the only good thing from it was the resurrection of the RRB (Rowdyruff Boys) which died in their self-titled debut episode from Season 1. but that's about it.
And also yes, the more faded colors from the original version was a lot better than the much brighter colors of the reboot. Plus I prefer the animation from the original show.

My problem with the the way Tara and other VAs are acting on Twitter is that they're handling it very unprofessionally.Tara is saying stuff like "I have no ill will against the 3 new VAs" but at the same time she's doing shit like starting a petition to have CN fire the three new girls and give them the jobs back. Tara is actively trying to steal a job someone already has secured and to top it off it's the girl's first jobs. Tara is already voicing tons of other characters at the moment so she's making plenty of money so there is NO EXCUSE for her acting like this.

Petition was the wrong word to use. She said on Twitter for her fans to "strongly urge CN to consider to recast" or something along those lines. The point still stands that she's actively trying to steal someone else's job which is incredibly unprofessional especially when you take into consideration that it's these girl's first job. Tara should know first hand how competitive the voice acting industry can be and she certainly is not helping these girls get into the business at all. And like I said it's not like Tara doesn't already have a shit ton of jobs already and isn't making a ton of money. She doesn't need it.

I can tell that this tweet started some controversy seeing all those "June 9th" and so on tweets suggesting someone found this tweet and thought she said that after the announcement...when it's actually just an older tweet.
Back in February 2015, Tara Strong tweeted about her and the Powerpuff Girls were not returning to voice the titular chars. I guess with that tweet back in March about asking CN to recast, she was hoping that CN would contact them and others in hopes of her maybe getting on the show, being the PPG or other chars...just some acknowledgment.
But unfortunately CN never contacted them about anything at all which is a shame...I don't know what to say or make of this all.
What I can say is that Tara isn't at fault for this as it's just the out-of-context tweet that got people unhappy about her when they didn't notice the date of the tweet at all.
I guess Sailor Hamlett my friend that you don't have to feel so bad about her at all...whatever unprofessional feelings you have about her well...at least she didn't do it in ill-will and accepts the new VAs for all of this now knowing about it all.

I still remember in the summer of 2012, I went to a convention where Tara Strong was supposed to be but she had to cancel. the people who had paid for VIP passes all got to attend a special Skype call panel with her.
She explained that her absence was due to her beginning to record for a new Teen Titans show. We all cheered, if we had only known... :P
I don't begrudge them though, as much as I do not enjoy Teen Titans Go, at least they have the original voice actors back.

While I am genuinely excited for this reboot (and I watched this show RELIGIOUSLY as a kid) I can see where your coming from here ***** ESPECIALLY when you state that most shows without the're creators lose their luster. The only two shows I can think of that work without their creators really well are TMNT 2012 (and in my opinion the 2014 movie) and MLP:FIM. And even so, Kevin Eastman, the co-creator for Ninja turtles, currently has creative control of the franchise, so that might be the reason why it's doing so well. You also have a point about people being overly sensitive about "violence" in cartoons nowadays, If I end up loving this series (which I probably will as long as it doesn't end up like Teen Titans Go) I definitely don't want one of my favorite episodes banned because a soccer mom couldn't handle their child witnessing one of the girls punching a monster out for half a second or something -_-
Other than that, I really don't have any other concerns for this reboot, as long as it stays as far away from Teen Titans Go territory as possible and has good action and comedy, then I'm down for it :)

The worst part of this all is that Cartoon Network is effectively trying to bury their past shows under loads of Tom And Jerry, Scooby-Doo, and Looney Tunes. And that INCLUDES the old PPG.

!!!!! Cartoon Network should really just stop with rebooting anything!!!! But hey, unlike Nickoldeon, CN can learn from their mistakes, and maybe they won't do anymore reboots if this fails. I mean, they once gave the Annoying Orange his own show. That was the first and only time CN used anything from the Internet to make a show, and since it failed, CN NEVER tried to make anything from the internet a show again. So they can learn from their mistakes and try not to repeat them. I have a feeling they don't think Teen Titans GO! was a mistake since it's doing well, even tho it should be failing-_-

To be fair Teen Titans Go! is a Warner Bros Animation show and not one of Cartoon Network's as Turner is a semi-independent company within TimeWarner, also the plot of Teen Titans Go! is different as it's about what the characters do in their free time, the new PPG reboot won't deviate from the original plot formula.
Cartoon Network has made some good decisions lately which makes me a bit more confident, Nick is trying to make a comeback and Disney has took a page out of their book. I suppose they got some new voice actresses on board as they're looking for new talent and they're hoping that they will become loyal to Cartoon Network so they can work on future projects.
At least they're giving other people an opportunity, you can't blame the new voice actors for not passing up the opportunity to take a part on the show, I'm sure that anyone who is reading this comment who had the opportunity to voice a cartoon character wouldn't pass it up.

Nick is trying to make a comeback back as they're interested in animation again, Harvey Beaks is an example. They're still in a bad situation, they need new leadership and a new way of thinking to overhaul the network.

About the voice thing. I'm fine with new people voicing the characters. What I'm not fine with is the fact that CN decided not to approach the original voice actors about it, not even making sure if they wanted to continue voicing or not. I understand that these new VAs will get their chance to begin their career, but CN should have gone to the original VAs first to make sure there were going to be no complications.
Why can't Cartoon Network just come up with their own original ideas, instead of stealing other people's ideas?

If there's any show that's underrated and is in need of a reboot/continuation it's Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go. Fuck, the fact that it's cancellation was so out of the blue and unfair is kinda sad.

Man, you explain yourself well and everything, but I pretty much disagree with EVERYTHING you said. I mean, I respect you opinion and everything, and you have a right to be skeptical of any reboot. But every one of the points you mentioned I just... disagree with.
Like I was never bored with the later seasons of the Powerpuff. The Rowdy's Return and the Nanobots episodes were primarily action based, but they weren't nearly as bad as or bland as you make them out to be(in my opinion). I feel bad because this is one of those channels where I respect the way you review thing, but disagree on darn near everything content wise.
I do agree with their decision not to approach the original voice actors though. That seems like a big mistake. I'm curious. Now that a sneak peek has been released, has your opinions changed any?

My opinion hasn't really changed, I made a video on the new promo clip the other day, but the TL;DR version is that I'm worried that they are focusing more on marketing than the show itself, I'm not crazy about the animation or Buttercup's voice, and the manly character seems generic and on the nose. But hey I can't really say anything for certain until it comes out. This is all only speculation.

Power Puff Girls,Power puff girls, Power puff girls...It's as if the other shows don't exist like a certain show with three young men....Ed Edd Eddy, I feel like PPG ran it's course (then again wasn't that big of a fan I enjoyed it buuuuuuuut) I feel like this new generation needs the three stooges of cartoons....then again eddy's VA is doing construction so I doubt it...a guy can dream....
Clonetos To be fair, I don't think either need a reboot or anything. The Powerpuff Girls had a long run, with six seasons, two specials, and a movie, and Ed, Edd n' Eddy got pretty much the same treatment. Heck, CN is notorious for cancelling it's action shows early, and the series actually got a movie that ended the series on a pretty nice note. Plus, it helps that despite running for four seasons, the series didn't get that stale. The school episodes still felt pretty wacky and zany, and managed to put the Eds in bizarre situations (the episode where they literally build a plane out of school supplies to try and leave the school early comes to mind)
As much as I love Ed, Edd, n' Eddy, I think I'd be fine with them just being left alone since they had a good run. Unless they eventually have a special called "Revenge of The Gourd," I would watch that in a heartbeat.
Clonetos Actually, Ed Edd and Eddy was the longest running Cartoon Network show, and quite frankly, it doesn't really need a reboot. The original series was very good, and there's not really much use for a reboot. Plus, it doesn't help that Cartoon Network already has Clarence, which has a huge amount of similarities to EE&E...
It had 6 seasons I believe if you count the two episodes from season 6. While I still thought the show was really good it did start to show it's age a little in the school season. I just felt it was rather a drastic change. Eds, PPG, and Dexter all had good runs. I think Courage deserves to be rebooted. The creator is even interested in continuing it.

It would be extremely ironic if the reboot ends up being good without the original voice actors (again, highly unlikely, but I'm not discounting it yet) because Toddler Titans sucked even WITH the original voice actors.
Reboots, for the most part, are never a good idea. Why take the chance of ruining an amazing thing? Anything that you do, fans are gonna be upset, so why not leave it be? I saw a comment below that suggested making a Courage reboot, and I STRONGLY disagree. I can't bear the thought of my Courage being screwed up.
Lol after ben 10 ultimate alien I quit because really it felt like it should've ended there and when I saw one episode of omniverse they were having a laugh Cartoon network is making really silly shows now they need some action and seriousness with some comic relief like the ben 10, alien force and ultimate alien and generator rex and young justice and Naruto and yu gi oh don't get me wrong they can keep them comedic shows but its just overrunning cartoon network is why I stopped watching really I miss the action side

PGR, I normally agree with you, but in this instance I have to disagree entirely.
If you're rebooting your show, there needs to be some new cast members if you want the reboot to stand on its own. That's one of the (many) reasons I hate Teen Titans Go!. Having the original voice actors is just way too distracting, because all you can think about is "hmm, this is supposed to be more like the original character, but isn't". I think if they had a different cast, people wouldn't care so much.about how it destroys the respect of the original show.
Look at Star Trek, for example. If the new movie had all the original actors trying to be the crew of the Enterprise, how distracting would that be? You wouldn't take anything seriously on its own!
I really do hope the reboot is good. The original Power Puff Girls was the first cartoon I really loved. Also the fact that we have to call the Power Puff Girls I watched the original Power Puff Girls makes me feel old and strange.
