People need to realize there's a difference between modernization and pandering
If anyone needs a reference, Carrie and Footloose were modernized. The Smurfs and Alvin and the Chipmunks were pandering.

Though I have to say that there are some good reboots like of the 2013 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot was actually really clever the Voltron reboot until it’s final few seasons were really funny and clever she Ra was really good to reboot and a few others I can’t think of at the moment but I know they’re there it justDepends on how they use the source material and add their own creative spin on it like the Scooby Doo mystery Incorporated which was the 2010 version that took almost every reiteration of Scooby Doo and created a more of a retro spin on it having its own original storyline with an actual storyline plus the monster of the week from the originals among other things which was really good

I honestly don't think the Powerpuff Girls were ever meant to be complex characters. It's even in the theme; Blossom is the leader, Bubbles is the smile and laughter, and Buttercup is the toughest fighter. That's basically all I ever needed.

The changes to Blossom honestly pissed me off the most. She was my favorite in the original. My mom handmade me a Blossom costume for Halloween when I was, like, 8 because I loved her so much. Why did she go from being the smart, mature one of the group to a perfectionist with little to no actual personality?

Blossom was my favorite too in the original. They messed up the personalities.
YES! Another person that loves Blossom. Anyway, I understand how you feel. It made me so upset how they changed her up from the leader and mature one of the group to Little Miss Perfectionist. It's like what The Simpsons did to Lisa. She was my favorite character but all of a sudden, she changed to the stereotypical vegetarian girl that takes strong, independent woman way too seriously.

Turns out it was actually Golden Wolf. I had assumed since gumball's intro is very similar to the new ppg intro, as well as some of the humans in the intro having what I like to call "Gumball face". But golden wolf has done some stuff with the gumball team. as well as both of them being in Europe.

I am aware that one of the reasons for Yo, Yogi's difference in voice cast was due to many of the original VAs having died before it came out, I looked the show up on Wikipedia.

Sooooo true at 13:55. It's pure genius that in ten seconds, we get a clear idea of each of the girls' personalities just through the music and slight character expressions. It's so sad that cartoons today don't have nearly the same level of care put into them.
Some cartoons do have that level of care, just not any of the reboots/remakes.

I've been studying 2D animation at School of Visual Arts for the last four years, and literally all of the animation mistakes I've seen from snippets of this show (clipping, inconsistency, stuff disappearing, lazy tweening) are the kind that first year SVA students make. I am embarrassed for whomever said that this was good enough to air.
I just hate how all these remakes treat kids like they're stupid and put no effort in making the show.

I approve of adding in modern things into reboots of something, because it's supposed to take place in whatever time period it's being remade, so long as it's subtle, in the background, or not given too much attention. What I DON'T approve of, however, is shoving modern things into the audience's faces 24/7, having all their "jokes" and material being mashed off of it, and fully relying on it to vainly appeal to a newer audience. I really hate this, and this is coming from a memelord such as myself. =\
I also agree adding some modern stuff to an older show can work and make it feel different while still feeling very much like the original. Like for the PPG, Pan mentioned the girls all had their own smartphones to respond to emergencies that even had their own unique designs; I feel that fits more than the toy phone in the original.

So here's something I never noticed. Bubbles is clearly supposed to be the cute one. When the girls look sad, a semi circle appears above their eyes near the outer parts of their heads. Bubbles's hair, however, makes her eyes look like they're in a permanent state of sadness. I love that.

Well I'm afriad this reboot is suffering something I like to call "play it safe syndrome". You know, when they tone down certain aspects of the show, and get rid of/ change some characters to appease the "sensitive audience".

that panda twerking in that show reminds me way too much of Panda from We Bare Bears. It's almost too fitting that he got drugged up and then came onto the PPG reboot to spread his love of internet and phones. Except because he's on drugs, it's horrible and he taught little girls to shake their asses. Most people get very uncomfortable with that.

Last Week CN released an episode making fun of themselves and Cyborg even says and I quote "Yeah, I have to agree the show is really bad animation wise."

They've been doing tons of episodes like this, like that episode Wally T where cyborg and beast boy bring over a fan, and the others are all surprised going on about how everyone hates them.
That's the first half of it. I wasn't really paying much attention as it was just something on in the background while I was on my computer.

Something I think is important is that in the movie, Their little lazer things as they flew match their personalities. Bubbles's was round, Blossom's was stiff but not to dense and Buttercup's was pointed and had sharp corners.

The intro song did perfect in the show don’t tell aspect, as the tone of the music as each of the girls appear on screen shifts a bit
Blossom, music that sounds somewhat heroic
Bubbles (Nostalgia critic “fucking bubbles” sounds off), sweet and innocent tone
Buttercup, metal guitar rift gives off the aggressiveness of her character
It did fantastic in this department

6 years later, still no Part 2.
Honestly before the new PPG before Teen Titans Go I learned my lesson. Anything that gets recreated will never be able to hold my expectations. Each series is it's own masterpiece of sorts. When it ends there is no bringing it back there are no reboots or recreations. I can appreciate sequels or reboots that go out of their way to be different, but why make something like Teen Titans Go when they could just make a new comedy. Most likely just because of branding. You can do a lot with a show when you have an easy way to promote it, but then you have to actually make something out of it. It really irritates me when children's shows are made these days because most of the time there is no creativity, no inspiration, or any sort of purpose in them. There is no need to try and close kids off in this time of the internet. Rather than making shows in order to make television relevant or attractive, why not make something you can actually be proud of. All I ever hear are reboots or re imaginings and people actually expect them to be good. The reason why I have stopped watching television is because most of the programming just feels dumbed down. If I can't go back to a show and see the creativity and the reasons why I was so into it, then it was just a show that drew me in because I didn't know any better. It doesn't deserve to be a part of my childhood. I've seen so many shows between the late 90's and early 2000's that actually grew with me. I also watched many of those shows die out. The best part about cartoons growing up was that most of them were geared towards telling a story or at the very least had a sense of continuity. Now a days it is all comedic or too dumbed down to even be recognizable. It isn't nostalgia that drives me, I am simply recalling the things that weren't in my tastes. There are some good shows out there but there is a problem with the direction the industry has taken.
Voltron Legendary Heroes is a reboot done right. Also, kids cartoons are much better now than they've been in the past several years. There is plenty of stuff that is not dumbed down nowadays.
But before that, there were Voltron Force. And that was terrible. It had some good ideas, but it completely F'ed up the series.

TheJustin4848 Well I do give shows a chance. I also look out for reboots, however it depends on who is handling the series or how the series pans out after airing. For example Steven Universe is a really good show and I like it because it has consistency and is more story driven. It gives people something to cling to and love about the show. Not all shows are formulated that way in the present day so for the past few years I have slowly drifted away from mainstream television and only really pay attention when something that suits my interests comes along. Voltron Legendary Heroes looks to be a great reboot but it's because of who is handling it and the fact that they plan to honor the original series and it is in their best interests to sell the show as it should be rather than radically change it. Yes people like me tend to not give things too much credit, but it is perfectly justified by the quality of mainstream television. I don't think my disliking of cartoons spans to Netflix or other online stream services since I don't even use them, however my rant is more focused towards television and the main cartoon channels.

The new PPG suffers from that same corporate mentality of, "So what if its not written by the same guy. Its just a cartoon and kids will watch it anyway because they're dumb. They'll buy the toys too."
They set this show up in a way where only people who grew up with the original will fully understand what is going on, which confuses new viewers and then they dumb everything down to the point where it turns off fans of the original ... so who exactly is this show intended for ... ?

Davide Munna Honestly I don't even get how that works, traditionally success comes when writers burry traditional archetypes beneath non-traditional covers (ex: SW, all your classic been done a million times fantasy archetypes, but done in space......instant hit with the populace unaware that they just essentially watched LOTR in space (no insult intended to either series)). You'd almost think all these guys watched one episode of invader zim, didn't get the joke and decided every show should slightly be like zim's tone!

TTG makes Robin's all business attitude on duty turn to a point where his five main traits are breakdowns of "crazy control freak". Stewie's a just "camp gay friend" who magically has a eternal bond for Brian, Peter and Lois whenever the plot feels right. And the original Flanders instead of being a genuinely swell guy with Bible Belt mentalities.....is just a Westboro Church member because Christian jokes.
Nostalgia, Charisma, and perfect blend of comedy and drama. These were the ingredients to make perfect reboot. but Cartoon Network accidentally added an extra ingredient to the concoction: RELATABILITY TO THE CURRENT GENERATION OF YOUTH!
And thus, this sad excuse for a reboot was born!

You make very good points about how the original is pretty timeless by not referencing contemporary real-world things, while the reboot is the total opposite. It tries way too hard to be trendy and "in". Indeed, in a few years it'll be cringeworthy when you go back and watch some of these episodes with outdated references and jokes. These kinds of trendy shows never last.
I still can't for the life of me understand why they wanted to reboot the Powerpuff Girls in the first place. And, whose vision was it to make it like... THIS!? I try to be open-minded and give things a chance, but they literally made it to where this show cannot age well. It's so overridden with (already outdated) memes, that will anyone even be able to relate to this after a few years? Who was this even targeted towards right now!?
