  • The Mad Scientist Build - A Starfield Explorer and Science-Based Playstyle
In this video, I'm going to be covering the Mad Scientist build for Starfield. This is a unique and fun build that focuses on exploration, discovery, and research. While the Mad Scientist is not a combat-focused build, we still have the tools we need to handle combat situation.
Here are some of the key features of the Mad Scientist build:
-Expertise in science skills: The Mad Scientist will have high proficiency in science skills such as geology, medicine, research, surveying, botany, scanning, and zoology. These skills will be essential for exploring planets, analyzing data, and conducting research.
-Use of pistols: The Mad Scientist will use pistols as their primary weapons. Pistols are a versatile and weapon that can handle nearly all combat situations.
-Emphasis on utility: The Mad Scientist will focus on using utility items and abilities to survive and thrive in the harsh environment of space.
If you're looking for a challenging and rewarding build that focuses on exploration and science, then the Mad Scientist is the perfect build for you.

I have a long hauler build and there’s lots of dialogue, space ships, and clothing. He’s got the mullet and goatee which works well with hats and flannels, very blue collar and the muscle build due to weightlifting starting skill.
Now I’m thinking of making a xenobiologist with alien dna, task master and terra firma. I think I’ll go with plussing up the science skills early.

Thank You So Much For Your Build As I've Took Inspiration From Your Enthusiasm With A Traditional Bethesda Scientific Build By Overhauling My Own Version Of The Mad Scientist To Be Fully Equipped For Exploration In The Pursuit Of Science!

Thank you for this, I was looking all over YT for a more explorer based build and couldn't find any. I love your build and plan to use it myself. I love the idea of focusing more on exploration and less on combat. Its something different than most games, and something BGS gets right usually.

Ty! I'm glad you found the video!
I don't feel the need to stick to the most op, popular builds. That's too boring! There's lots of players out there like yourself who want something different from their playthrough. I try to make builds for all kinds of people.
I hope you enjoy yourself! The starfield is a beautiful place with lots of breathtaking discoveries. Best of luck out there!

I'm glad you like this one! I know it's not going to appeal to the mainstream hard-core players. But, I'm perfectly fine with that. I just enjoy theorycrafting.

Thank you so much! I've got about 400 hours in and I feel like I'm constantly ahead of the curve against most UA-camrs trying create content on Starfield.. so I never really learn anything new from them.. I know about most of what you said, but not all. Some very useful information that will most definitely affect my next playthrough. Like precognition. Didn't really know how to use that. My ultimate goal has been to master a hermit style, live off the land type who makes millions of credits through crafting. Well, at least hundreds of thousands at least.

      I appreciate the kudos!
Crafting is very rewarding when done right - whether it's manufactured goods, pharmaceuticals, or food. You just need some outposts in good locations for resource extraction/production. Ideally, the world has a very long day/night cycle...that way when you rest 24 hours, the UT time is 100s of hours, which quickly nets you heaps of resources. You then take your mass resources and make mass amounts of goods for tons of xp and money.
Those goods may not be worth much as a single unit. But when you're crafting 1000s at a time, you can make some serious bank 🤑 .

@@That1Guy4Never well more specifically, I'm trying to master a never before created manufacturing business that focuses primarily on taking loot from enemies or areas and improving the designs for resale with added components. Bethesda has always nurtured these types of play styles and I don't see why they'd stop now. The only question is, which weapon and suit mods would create the most significant price increases... With commerce maxed of course. So essentially, I'd be running around with a flying cargo/mod manufacturer/ research vessel.

Thanks for the inspiration man. Just started my second build and decided to RP as a scientist who was disgraced for doing unethical and dangerous experiments. The idea came feom this comment, so thanks :)

@@josephmorgan3881 that’s so cool. Would love to learn how it turned out. My character was also a serpent worshiper so I’d love to see how different or the same our characters are lol

@@starbirbs5128 Sounds like they are pretty different. I did Xeno background and then traits of Alien DNA, UC settler and kids stuff. The idea being to create a stereotypical middle class academic type who grow up relatively privileged and educated. The RP comes from the idea that my character begun to get sick of the bureaucracy and stuffiness of UC science, feeling like it was holding back her true potential for knowledge and so stole resources and did dangerous experiments. This lead to her getting the Alien DNA, as well as being shunned by the science community. This causes her to start her own independent research and she signs up for argos to do gain access to rare minerals and study geology. She is very cold and will do almost anything for science and knowledge, even if it's immoral. This RP fits the idea of Ng+ aswell. I'm interested to know more about yours as well?

@@josephmorgan3881 my idea was that instead of going the fighting route that most Va’ruun take, my guy decided to go into sciences: try and figure out what exactly the great serpent was outside of being a god. He gets interested in how the terrormorphs seem to effect the mind and instead of trying to control them, becomes the first person to really mess with its dna. These experiments as well as his ideas on the great serpent cause him to be kicked off planet but not killed, as they might need his intelligence one day. Unlike Andreja who has a set mission, his people practically tell him that he can do whatever he wants as long as he isn’t killed.
So my character hops across the galaxy, trying to figure out more about his god and the universe. He creates different chems or uses well known chems during grav jumps to try and replicate what might have happened to Jinan and the other first worshippers. His wandering leads to him being wanted, especially by the UC, as they think he’s trying to restart xenowarfare. He only ends up getting a job at Argos because he heard from overhearing a pirate that the artifacts existed.
And there is a bit more stuff but the general idea is here. I like the idea behind your character and it was cool to see how different our characters were!

How does space combat suffer woth this build?

    • @That1Guy4Never
      @That1Guy4Never  7 місяців тому +1

There's very little negative impact on space combat using this build. The slight debuff of oxygen while in space from Terra Firma is almost meaningless since this isn't a melee focused build.
This build also uses partical beam weapons, which have no recoil in zero-g. That's handy.
So, while this isn't a great space build, it works perfectly fine for most casual combat encounters.
