This guy is awesome! Great demo!
Got an AH MKI in 2023, still feels relevant and exciting! Great work Elektron on building classic gear.
thank you Guardiola
this is really cool.
will the plugin work with other daw's?
It's 2022. I have a MkII arriving tomorrow. I am so pumped for it (pun intended). Cenk's enthusiasm feels so genuine. Sure, he's a sales man for them but when the really amazing sounds take shape you can see he's inspired. Hopefully I'll be just as inspired tomorrow 😎
@4:20 *hand gesture* drippy
Cenk Sayinli is my hero.
they should make a rack mount version for bus mixing hopefully the filter is midi programable
tabletop version works great for bus mixing. Pop in a USB cable, open as VST or au plug-in, and go to town! Every parameter is controllable via MIDI but why bother? When you use Elektron Analog series instruments, you can automate parameters at way finer resolution than MIDI, directly by controlling and automating the plug-in, super clean.
how fast are that guys fingers!!?!
Analog filter/eq/fx + audio interface + overbridge.... why are people complaining about the price point?
This is sooo dope gotta get it
love it...so much
Cenk perfectly illustrates how genuine enthusiasm and love for a product is the best way to MAKE ME WANT TO HAVE THIS.
Sounds nice...good demo
Bought this about 6 months ago. Had to think hard about parting with so much cash. SO, SO, SO worth it. I will never sell this lovely box. Literally makes everything you put through it sound like GOLD!!!
Was even better than I had hoped. Only watching this cause I was looking to see what crazy things people might be doing with it. Inspired by this thorough explanation. Can't wait to get back in the studio now.... I hadn't really been even using the LFOs, and it still has being blowing my mind the past six months. Filter was an added bonus that I didn't think I'd use as much as I do.. . even without using LFO!! ,,, Amazing bit of kit. Highly recommended and actually it's a bargain for what you get ;)
Fran Hartnett cool how does it sound on soft synths? And on a master bus inside the box. What I’m getting is you can run you daw thru this all analog box correct? I’m debating if I’m gonna buy one
Pretty cooool
absolutely love this
Cool product, and nice sounding as well. Personally i have never felt the need for a unit with 8 discrete analog distortion modes, though. Seem like quite an overkill to me. I hope they come to good use.
dead pixel in the open shot camera is driving me nuts...
No no, it's Nick's little drone filming the closeups. ;-)
Awesome device. Can anyone tell me if I am right presuming that I can use the filter and dry wet to apply saturation to specific areas only ? Like „distort Highs above 12khz only“ ? Or „only distort bass „ ?
I use digitakt so can I resample each track through heat mk1 to digitakt?
round fuzz sounds like comb filter sorta
Hahahahha, Apollo 13!! Love it!! And It couldn't have been a better description of what was going on!! Awesome presentation.
When two maniacs meet, good things happen!! 😆😉😎 YEAH!
@sonicstate do you have a dead (white) pixel in on of your cameras? 18:17 just above your left ear from the viewers perspective...
those enocders he twisted a million times and the values where incremented in small steps, hoefully firmware will fix that as thats a huge issue, how about holding a button and turning the encoders for large steps as that sort of twisting for small increments is a huge oversight
synth master you can already do that. On all Elektron units, clicking in and turning the encoder changes more values of the parameter
if you view the video, oin certain parameters it looks liek its broken,
he keeps twisting and the values jump 1-2 back and forth, looks like
cenk has already broken his heat or the firmware on the unit is buggy
Question: He mentions LA2A and “Pooltech” but I didn’t find the latter on a google search, does anyone know what he’s referring too?
Pultech eq unit
Electron How do you emulate tubes with analog circuitry ... ?
bladuck1 pedal manufacturers have been doing this for years, successfully.
Great demo!
Top presentation.
cenk is funny as hell
I am impressed, wanted an Iotine core for ages, but getting hold of one is a pita, not to mention import, duty etc. I think people forget this is stereo and an audio interface. Is the input treated as another soundcard? Do you need to make an aggregate device ?
The more extreme sounds are surely usable for the kind of live setting presented in the very end of the video. There are less examples of processing more subtle audio source such as for example vocals, so it's hard to tell how good the device is on that front. Then again it is called Analog Heat, so I guess heavy distortion is its forté in the end.
so awesome, im getting one!!!
Always fun seeing Cenk and Nick talking about cool gear.
This will be amazing for both hip pop and techno producers.
Be ideal if you could jump the effects around like on the JD990
seems like the peak but without the synth
same process with analogue filters, distotion and digi effects.
i like it
When will Overbridge be available for this product?
Great demo as always.
This thing is massive, only wish it had sequencing capabilities onboard for p-locking. DAW automation will do, I suppose. Looking forward to the inevitable "Elektron Digital Chill" too...;)
The host really loves the sound of his own voice.
It sounds extremely beautiful.
Pure magic....
this box is real sweet i might have to get one
Any of you guys tried this as an audio interface? Just plug a preamp into the line-ins? Is the latency ok?
I really see this more geared for the studio.
This is actually a pretty good price when considering all the individual pedals one would have to purchase to recreate these Drives, Etc. Plus it's Analog Distortion. So I'm guessing it's exponential distortion, "possibly multi-polar (High and Low Mixes like a Doepfer A-136 DIS Module)", as opposed to linear distortion found in digital drive and overdrive pedals..
out of the 8 unique circuits, a wide variety of distortion / overdrive methods are explored
What are competitors making that would be a less expensive or better? Examples?
Is this EL/LED display going to be a new trend for upcoming Elektron boxes? That would be nice.
I know Cenk works for Elektron, but you can tell he's really into the device, as he makes that "this is awesome" face several times during the video. If you watch the Analog Four presentation video, he does the same thing a couple of times. It's fun to see a demonstrator so into his work.
In Ableton Live its only possible to use one soundcard at a time, on PC. So using Heat with the plugin DAW integration will the Heat become the exclusive soundcard for Live?
Not on macs: you can create an aggregate device that includes multiple sound sources. Also with Overbridge you can bring in sound as if the external Elektron unit was a VST, which leaves open your regular soundcard setup.
Pretty sure when you use Analog Heat as VST in Live, the plug-in itself handles the incoming audio, on both Mac and Windows - freeing up your existing soundcard to keep doing what it does.
Kim Svendsen with the overbridge plugin, you do not need to use aggragated audio device. So in other words, your sound card n overbridge units can be handled seperate and work together
Is there a simpler alternative to this that costs *significantly* less? I need a good analog signal path to run my otherwise completely ITB setup through.
mackie vlz 1604 1gen gain knob
I like to get the sound sources from analogue gear recordings (cause i can), that´s what i do at home. to polish the sound and clean it at the mix stage, digital is perfect for my budget, love the Elektron gear in fact i like to improvise a lot cause Elektron gear it is a very clever gear and invites you to create, but all you need is in your budget, the goal is to achieve the sound that´s in your mind, and that is possible to do it ITB or with very expensive gear it is up to you and your wallet. I want to point to you don´t worry if you can´t afford this gear which is awesome. Buy let said get, i.e. Decimort from D16 and you will be very very happy, i believe it only cost 45 or 65 bucks or euros, it is an equivalent, c ITB solution to this Elektron Machine. I´m Lucky i own Analog Rytm 8 and Heartbeat from Softube, diferent sounding animals, but they are both beast sounding machines, i know for they sound which is which, but it is impossible to said which one sounds better when they are fine mixed and tuned even if not. same i.e. with Decimort with an envelope soft follower controlling a soft filter compared to Analog Heat. Money is not a problem today to do good music. To me it is most important to be able to do a great song or theme , if you can do a good song well mixed completely ITB, at end you alway can spend your money in a good mastering engeener who as the knowledge and the tools, this final stage is crucial for a comercial release, but at home you don´t need more than what your wallet can afford believe me.
Red on Black LED? White on Black would have been easier on the eyes and blend better with the unit since the unit itself has that color scheme.
the idea that you can use at as a plug in is brilliant and it makes it a lot more versatile. I'd assume you can use it on a return track right?
solid vid!
sweet!
Pioneer RMX 1000 has similar things, like 3band EQ, LFO effects, Distortion, sample play, plug in and more.., is stereo, but ofcourse all digital. and price was similar i think around 750 if i remember well, so Analog heats price is reasonable for beeing analog hybrid with soundcard! super product, thanks Nick! peace!
I have on of these and it's perfect for mix bus processing, or stem mixing, it's the only piece of gear I can't live without. Waiting for analogue heat 3 - next generation, so much potential
How do I control the Heat via Midi ? I mean all the parameters? How can they get controlled via midi?
Another mini-lcd display? For that price it should have a display like Maschine Studio!
souldn't heat apply analog soft clip the signal before coming back, on the overbridge plugin output?
Is that an Elektron t-shirt? Probably the only Elektron gear I could ever afford. I want it!
So I can have an analog signal path which I can drop into a chain as an insert ? Using this as an au, vst or whatever plugin?......is the overbridge plugin just a software effect that is then controlled by this unit ( like a cc midi controler ) or is the signal path actually sent through the analog circuits ?? ( Im talking about using as an effect in my daw ) Sorry if I sound stupid im 4 beers in atm hehe
When you connect it with USB, the audio is conveterted to digital in the box and transmitted over USB. Its an analog VST sound processor in that sense. The overbridge plug-in allows for: bi-directional audio, tempo sync with DAW, massive bandwidth for parameter automation from DAW, and total recall of machine parameters when saving and loading your DAW projects. Overbridge is total DAW integration of Elektron hardware, its free for all users, and it does NOT conflict with your existing soundcard setup, it runs in parallel!
Short answer. Yes.
short answer....sort of.
My question is... if you run all drums through this, how do you then mix them individually? They will all be on one track. Not sure how to use this in a mix. The drums sound good together running through it, but I don't know how much this would help from a mix standpoint.
Run a stereo mix through it.
Did anything happen with the stereo features you were talking about? Does it have any new functionality?
i love watching these guys ... how theyre so engaged and obsessed, and im blown away by their knowledge and articulation
This video sold me something I didn't even know I wanted....
Very nice sounding box, although you're going to get a lot of noise in your tunes when you record through it. Even the Clean Boost setting with the drive lower than noon, adds noise.
I am not going to even mention the amount of noise the other modes, add to the signal.
Double checked by having nothing in the input to make sure I was not simply amplifying noise present in the signal path, before the Heat.
So yeah, adding tracks that have been recorded through it and then also the final mix makes me wonder why I payed so much for this.
A similar idea in my opinion are plugins like Quadrafuzz v2 and iZotope has a version of it as well.
Minute 22 ibiza global radio?! haha
Is there any other analog gear that has the ability to work as an "kind of vst" ?
Hypersynth Xenophone.
Xenophone, like many others is only connected up to an "editor" in the DAW - it doesn't do audio streaming over USB like all Elektron Analog series do. With Xenophone, Minitaur, etc you still need a soundcard / audio interface to get audio to and from your DAW.
This is taken from Hypersynths website :-
- Full control of the sound engine (212 parameters)
- Support automation for all parameters
- Request patch from Xenophone memory
- Load sysex file into the editor
- Send sysex via editor to Xenophone
- Save Xenophone programs in *.syx format
- Save editor programs in *.syx and *.xnp format
- Rename program remotely via sysex
- Select programs and banks remotely
- True readout for envelope and LFO rates
- Sync to host option for master tempo
- 128 empty presets
- 3 Wheels: Pitch, Mod and Aftertouch
- Run as standalone or VST/AU plugin.
Look at the last line.
Specs listed are for the editor software. But thanks for providing that info!
Excellent sound as external effects unit (I've got one) but, at least on my case, unstable if you want to use with Overbridge.
Still not get why analog effects are "best" than digital. Could anybody
clarify? I have a bunch of analog gear pluged to my DAW filter/effects
and I do not see inmediatly the benefits of getting extra analog filters or
effects (with the exception of certain filters). I see the advantage of the interface and the real-time
accesibility but, I don't know, sound-wise for me, I do not see mayor
changes
Victor Roy If you don't hear a difference, don't worry about it.
Digital distortion has a huge problem with aliasing. You can somewhat combat that with oversampling but that eats up a ton of CPU.
Analog distortion sounds like the real deal without complicating things.
Starting watching feeling I didn't want it. Ended by immediately adding it to my next purchase list! 😄
I love those analog processing boxes. I have a Vermona Retroverb Lancet and some features overlap, a great little effects unit with drive, a resonant multimode filter, env follower, low and high frequency boost, a lfo with different shapes, sample & hold modulation and.. a spring reverb. Cheaper and highly recommended!
I love mine as well, it's an excellent option.
i wish it was stereo i/o though if i wanted to use it on bus signals
I love mine aswell. love the envelope follower that can react to trig or audio. cool litle box. looks evil too!
I love mine too, my favorite piece of gear. It can, however, get pretty noisy
That vermona box is sweet indeed. But this is a beast of a slightly more aggressive flavor. Espescially in the scope of what the analog heat does.
how does the "analog heat" compare to the "niio lotine core"?
this pad sound! Legend! Love it
I would use it to fatten up my mixes ,it's not that needed if you use a daw which will have stacks of effects
filter AFTER the distortion? Don't you want it the other way around?
damned changed my mind, this box is the shit. absolutelly will change my life
they should add the reverb, pan, and delay from digitakt
oooft, just ordered me one
canny wait
Nick: "Oh Cenk, i like the Square Wave, could you go to the Square Wave ..." What i really missed is that he asked: Can it do Pulsewidth-Modulation? :-D
Sounds fantastic. On my list for next year.
I didn't think I would be picking this up until watching this presentation...
Gotta hand it to them, this does sound really really nice!.
The price is of course from having 8 separate analogue circuits. And I have no doubt the great sound will convince quite a few people to buy it. But I think they've missed a crucial detail, that will cost them in the long run.
Listening to it I would love to have 1, but to justify both cost and the physical space, it would need to work as a soundcard. Yes it _can_ do that, but then you notice you can't control main output and headphone output separately, and that's a *massive* pain in the ass. I'm personally not inclined to pay 800€ for an annoying soundcard/effectsbox, and I think a lot of people, like ITB'ers who would otherwise love the analogue sound, will agree, so not adding that headphone level control looks like an embarrassing and costly oversight.
Might as well get FabFilter Saturn for 1/6 the cost (or 1/12 on discount like I did), which also sounds great, is multiband, doesn't take up room or USB ports, and runs as many instances as you like. Paired with a better and/or cheaper dedicated soundcard.
There are of course plenty of people that don't need or want the soundcard function, but considering what most of them already have in their setup, and the price of this, I don't think this offers enough new to them to justify the cost. They will just drive their synths, mixers, and hardware effects as they always have.
Again, this sounds great, and will appeal to a lot of people. But I just don't get this trend of alienating massive chunks of the potential market with miniscule omissions, or unnecessary destructive additions.
Marc the Darc yeah good points, also with Fabfilter you could have multiple instances of it instead of just one.
Marc the Darc Saturns always in my effects chain, one of my fav plugins ever, but that fuzz circuit sounds so nice. I am willing to swallow that tag integration aside.
Interesting - I registered the soundcard / overbridge aspect of it as a useful afterthought. I can't justify buying one at the cost, but I see an incredible use for it as a live processor.
Bromeliads My point exactly! It's a great processor first and foremost. But it's so expensive most can't really justify it on that merit alone. Enter the soundcard; when it does both, it starts making more sense for those that could use it as both. But they've cut those people off by leaving out a small but crucial part of the soundcard functionality.
Can someone tell me how i would use this in my setup without a mixer? just a couple of synths, maschine and a soundcard.
Great stuff!
can you run mono sources through this as well?
Sounds freaking amazing!
Is it worth giving the time for the device to physically warm-up before use? Does anyone hear a difference between a device that was just switched on and one that has been been on for a while and feels warm to the touch?
Dear Santa ! Another amazing elektron product :)
Can this be used as a Send/Return EFX Processor? Kind of like the Pioneer RMX-1000?
Why not?
yes
Great demo! I'm personally waiting for some demos to surface of the OTO Machines BOUM Warming Unit before deciding if I should purchase this, I for one would shy away from the extreme settings as I am looking for something to add a bit of character to my digital sounds...
I really like the idea of this in my setup since I don't have any outboard signal processing. Any body know of a rack mount unit that works like this?
If I only had known that watching this video would cost me 800 euros.
MrKrisstain same here :D
lol
“Good things will come for those who wait”
Finally bought it two weeks ago...621 euros new
At the Elektron webshop it’s still 799 ?
Jacco I picked up a mint used heat for $500! Love it.
amazing sounding piece of gear, great demo. thanks
that is one useful box of tricks. that's a lot of guitar pedals replaced for one thing. price seems reasonable to me, and I love the elektron aesthetics. what's the build quality like?
AndyQ build quality is great. I mean don't throw them, but the boxes feel professional, based on using a few other Elektrons
Ryan Dadey Thanks, glad to hear that. I don't live anywhere near a dealer so it's aways a gamble ordering online without reviews and opinions from peeps who know the gear
u could totally throw it, it's built like a tank
Impressive piece of gear.
