- In this video I cover the new features found in GIMP 2.99.12! This development release version made major strides with CMYK support. It also built upon updates from previous releases, like the new splash screen from GIMP 2.99.10, which now has a demo animation that highlights new features. GIMP also introduced some cool new advanced mouse shortcut keys and a shortcut for increasing or decreasing your brush size. There are many more new features in this latest development release, which will soon become GIMP 3.0!

Good to see that the work in GIMP is moving forward! It's very important that there are more and more features to make your work easier!
GIMP 3.0 will be the best thing ever
I used to draw in photoshop before I switched to linux, after I changed my os, I had use to another photo editing program so I stacked with gimp but I really missed the `alt + right click` shortcut to resize the brush, now I'm no longer missing that feature ^=^
HUGE thanks for all you do - I've done a Udemy course with you - but these free ones one UA-cam have also SAVED me hundreds of $$$ that I don't have when doing a project :) so a Big Old Thanks for sharing so much !
Hello Michael, as always great review. 🔝🔝👏🎬👍A big greeting from Italy.😉👍
I hope they get rid of the issues I had in this update,I really want gimp to work properly again ;-; I still don't understand what's wrong with mine
Nice improvements but still needs a massive interface rehaul. Make the ui more sleek and cohere to modern standards.
What UI improvements would you recommend specifically?
I gave up on gimp about 15 years ago because they should have done the interface overhaul at that time, and now that I see this video I see they still have a temper of the interface even slightly. It's almost like the devs are laughing at us saying yeah we know it needs an interface update but we're never going to do it just to piss you off. So yeah I moved to krita and I've never been happier.
Thank you for your time and attention to this update. I just downloaded and installed GIMP 2.10.34 (revision 1) on Mac OS. Instead of Preferences, it has Settings. Also there is not option, as far as I can see, for dragging left or right with Alt held down to change brush size. Maybe I used the wrong installer?
Thank you for the video. Have you made one for 2.99.6, since I saw you have 2.99.4 and then 2.99.8?
At the beginning of this video (as well as in the video's title) it is made clear that GIMP 2.99.12 is a "development release". The current "stable release" is still GIMP 2.10.34.
The stable release of a software is the version that is meant for regular distribution/use.
A development release is a version of an app that is currently under development. It is not meant for regular distribution/use because it still has known issues/bugs.
👍👍
There aren’t much tutorials on gimp like photoshop has, its hard switching from from photoshop. I just have to explore the app 😢
The newest GIMP is actually 2.10.34
Wow CMYK support maybe 30 years from now they'll add spot channels.
Is there a selection tool that only selects an object? Like the selection tool in Inkscape?
No, because GIMP doesn't work with vector objects in the way Inkscape does. GIMP works with pixel-based layers, which means there can often be multiple pixel objects on a single layer (and there's currently no way to isolate them, other than using a selection tool like the lasso tool or a shape selection tool). However, with the move tool you can always alt+middle click on an object, then left click with your mouse to select the particular layer the object is on.
@@DaviesMediaDesign Very good explanation. Thanks.
Sometimes when I try to use gimp, I usually end up in a "how -do-I-undo-this" loop. 🤭 I have a lot to learn.
Just paste every object into a new layer, that way its completely isolated from anything else, and you can reorder the layers, do all the stuff you need and then just merge finished layers, when you want a final image you can flatten all the layers
@@gower1973 Thanks.
the titlebar still white in darkmode?
There's an option in 2.99.16 to merge the two bars at the top, thus removing the white bar.
Please add chapters
Working on it.
@@DaviesMediaDesign aweome
waiting for clipping mask
Actual clipping masks would be nice but I pretty much get the same results by grouping a bunch of layers and then adding a regular mask to the group. It is actually more intuitive than clipping masks because the group mask affects all the layers underneath it, inside the group.
Hopefully one day we will get the selection brush, or plugins to help with AI generation
no AI?
ew,I hope gimp never uses AI,AI is fake art,no fake art allowed
The Interface is so earl 90's. True ugly environment to work with.
