Well, Biden made a mistake when he appointed twice loser Hillary Clinton to his campaign. I don’t see how you can appoint someone who lost to that orange clown to the top of your campaign strategy. The other thing about polls these days is that you have to expect that the people willing to take a poll are likely a specific subset of the population. You have to ask: who is willing to take a poll and do they have a specific leaning? Angry and agitated voters are more likely to be willing to take the time to voice their opinion.
Trump getting double digits against Biden when Trump has NEVER gotten double digits before should tell you how this poll is a load of crap.

First to comment. I commented on another platform that I believe this poll to be an outlier. Trump supporters are oversampled. No other poll reads like this. The media should stop reporting on The NY Times Sienna poll and investigate why this poll is not like the others.

As a Canadian, I am astonished anyone supports Trump.
I think this is a reflection of the fact that pollsters are reaching the same pool of respondents - people who will answer polls. My thought is that there's only a rarefied group of people who will actually respond to polls, no matter their political stripe, and these people's views are stratified. Also, consider the question of if these respondents can ever "represent" the average American - if a large majority of Americans would never, ever answer a poll, how then are we to take the views of a small group that WILL as the actual direction of the electorate?
It's a dilemma, that's for sure. They clearly do need to sharpen their performance!

Back when I was in graduate school getting my master's in library science, my professors would tell us that the NYT was a "newspaper of record". Today, the only thing you should use NYT is as a very expensive litter box liner or bird cage liner.

Polls are skewed toward old people because they still use directories to landlines. Most young people use cellphones, most of which are unlisted, and many are new or temporary devices.

Frustrating trying to get through this piece with Joe constantly butting in. But I agree with him. When I saw that poll and those numbers I was like, "Heres a fine example of actual fake news." Those numbers were so wildly unbelievable but that didnt stop CNN from blasting it all over their airways.
It's my belief that CNN and the NYT are basically partners in this shell game - I defended CNN at a point but even the people I liked there seem to have sold their values out. Say what you want about this network but at least you know whats opinion and whats news generally.

NYT/Ipsos poll - 407 RVs, 6% margin of error. That’s a ridiculous attempt at a “national” poll. Always pay attention to how many people, what group (Registered vs Likely vs Adults), and what the margin of error is.

When I was called on my rotary phone and asked who I would vote for in the upcoming general, I said Trump. But had to cut the poll short to hand feed my furnace coal because it was getting too cold because there's no eletricity yet in my city of 2mil people in Russia.

Political polling is in a disastrous state right now. Look at how off the Maryland primary polls were last night. The winner of the Democratic Senate primary was losing in all of the polls, she was never given a chance, there was never a poll that had her winning the race, and she won by 12 POINTS! A poll that has a margin of error of 4 should be taken with a grain of salt, but when the polls are consistently off by 10-25 points, then they have no value whatsoever. At this point, I believe that polls are just trying to push an agenda. The polling companies in concert with the corporate media are trying to get Donald Trump re-elected for RATINGS! And they will manipulate the polls in every way imaginable to attempt to achieve that end.

Now a days it seems most polls only use 1K or less people.
A poll is not an election. They sample a carefully (in theory) selected representative sample of people. Do look into how a poll works. It would be astonishing if you did know people sampled in a poll. I live in London and know one friend who is regularly polled.

I ignore the polls because they are way off at times. The final vote count is all that matters to either side.
The only "polls" I've seen are the clickbait donation surveys that force you to donate before your answers are counted, which I ignore.
Pollsters are painting a 2 horse race when this is simply not the case.
