- In this episode, I install 2021 Tahoe PPV front brakes on my 2007 Escalade. These brakes are a massive upgrade over the stock units, and is an easy project with a massive performance upgrade. All parts are from Rockauto. Here is the list of parts needed:
Rotors (2): Powerstop AR82209EVC. tinyurl.com/4jzyjprk
GM 6 piston caliper - left: GM 84793057: tinyurl.com/35ct3nbe
GM 6 piston caliper - right: GM84793058: tinyurl.com/y9dtxcz4
GM caliper bracket bolts (4): GM 11612265: tinyurl.com/yx7b5jc6
GM banjo bolts (2): GM 11569590: tinyurl.com/4h9xyufh
GM crush washers (bag of 10, need only 4): tinyurl.com/bdd4z9df
Powerstop brake pads: tinyurl.com/4jb6xad2
I found the best prices at Rockauto. There might be other vendors with competitive pricing, but I always had good deals with Rockauto.
Bro I been wanting to upgrade my brakes for a while now and thanks to you I can finally get it done thank you sir
Sweet. You’re going to love the difference
Great video! I had no clue these calipers existed. Gonna have to give them a try. Thanks for the parts list.
Thanks. After about a month of driving, the only things I would change are the brake pads. They are producing too must brake dust.
That caliper is massive!!
It is. The video doesn’t do it justice. It’s even more impressive in person 😁
Thanks for the post.....much appreciated.
Thanks
I just ordered every part you listed! Thanks for the video gained a sub!
Sweet. Let me know if you have any questions.
@@littlemissgracing6515 Im finally getting time to install mine. I have a 06 sierra and everything bolts right up except the brake hose. Its too short. Did you use your factory hose? or one for the 21 tahoe?
The factory hoses just reached on mine so I reused them. I still don't like it, and am for the lookout for slightly longer ones, probably 2" longer would be ideal.@@zachrod1172
@@zachrod1172 tinyurl.com/2p97ysxu according to Rockauto the GM factory hose length for my 07 is just over 21", so you need something at least that long. If you find a 23" long hose, you'd be golden.
Maybe braided stainless?
Damn those calipers are huge
Yes, and they have the performance to back them up 👍
Thanks !
👍. For the price, it turned out to be a great mod.
Just did this mod to my 06 Yukon Denali, since my 11 Escalade ESV has a full Wilwood kit.
Does it fit 20s? I have the 2019 brakes now but this is a huge upgrade. I’m doing it
Awd?
I did this upgrade and the added weight of the rotors really slowed down my yukon denali.
Is your Denali 5.3 or 6.2? I haven't experienced it on mine. I also just changed the original spark plugs and wires, and that made a huge difference.
@@littlemissgracing6515 2018 6.2 yukon. the rotors are 15lbs heaier each. so 30lbs of rotational mass is a lot
@@StreetDieselSolution Yes that is a lot of unstrung weight, but my 6.2 has no problem with it. Those brakes came standard on the Tahoe PPV, which has less hp than the 6.2 IIRC.
20" wheel/tire combo ONLY, once you do this upgrade.
Thanks for the great video! I’ve been wondering if this is something I can do on my 2017 Tahoe. The stock breaking for sure is underwhelming
Thanks. The braking is phenomenal. My only complaint is the brake pads produce too much dust, so I have to clean the wheels regularly. I am looking for different pads that don’t produce as much dust.
The PPV brakes severely limit your wheel selection. These are NOT the GMPP kit as they have less material machined from the radius near the center. Only wheels that have an immediate offset from the hub will work. High country wheels are one example. In and around town, won't notice, but stopping from 80+mph or braking with a trailer or load is improved dramatically.
Both the original 22” wheels and the later model wheels I just put on clear those brakes without any issues. The spare might be a problem but I will deal with it later.
@@littlemissgracing6515 The spare will be a problem. I used a cheap factory repop 22" wheel as my spare.
I am planning on the same for mine. I traded the original 22s towards the new 22s. If I can fit a 22 where the spare is, I would get a fifth one of the new style I got, otherwise I’ll have to find something else.@@gzoman5
@@littlemissgracing6515 what later model wheel do you have? is it 22939271 style by chance?
Excellent video! Quick question, I have the same rims, did you have to shave the caliper down any?
No I didn’t. The clearance was very tight though between the caliper and rim (less than 1/8” iirc). It’s my opinion that each truck is going to be slightly different when trying to center the caliper over the disc, so test fit to make sure
Hi great video, very detailed. I am installing this kit on the previous generation tahoe 2007-2020. The only thing I couldn't find is the fender washer to space out the caliper. What size or part number did you use for this? Also what is the part number for the new bleeder screw that is necessary as you had mentioned it had a different thread pitch. Thanks for making this video!
I used a 9/16” ID washer, the thickness of a quarter. In my experience, there is no exact thickness as the GM knuckle castings are not perfect, and you will not get consistency. You are trying to center the calipers to the rotors, so yours might need a different thickness, or a couple of washers.
As far as bleeder screws, those come with the calipers. It’s the banjo bolts that supply the calipers with brake fluid that are different from stock. The part numbers for the banjo bolts are listed in the description. Thanks
Thank you for your help@@littlemissgracing6515
2 brake hose banjo bolt from Dorman #14100 will be needed if you can't save your originals.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the new 6 piston caliper banjo bolts had different thread pitch than the original 07-14 calipers.
I was looking at the 4-piston upgrade from the trucks, but this is probably even better! Thanks for doing the test. How does it drive?
For the price, there is no reason to go to anything smaller IMHO. The only catch is to make sure your wheels clear. Mine did. There is no comparison between this and the stock brakes. You know the truck will stop, and will stop very quickly. I now wish the rears are ready for change, so I can do the C7 4-piston rear upgrade.😁
@@littlemissgracing6515 COULD use 03-06 2wd only SUV brakes. Uses a 1.25" thick rotor and 2 piston caliper. Bigger is the Baer Eradispeed bracket and 14" rotor.
Is that for the front or rear? I quickly looked on Rockauto, and it shows 12.00” diameter rotor for 03-06 SUV. Thanks.@@gzoman5
@@littlemissgracing6515 pls do an update video for the rear. watching in the philippines
I am slowly gathering the parts for it. It will be a couple of months before I get to it. Thanks @@comaradelee
By any chance do you know if they will fit a 08 2 wheel drive silverado?
I checked Rockauto and I did not see any separate listings for knuckles, calipers or rotors between 2wd and 4wd models, so I would say yes, but I am not a GM truck expert. Thanks.
Can this set up go on a 2005 Chevy Tahoe
Yes it does. At least on 4WD models. I don’t know if the 2WD hubs are similar, so I can’t comment on that. You will need the later model 20” wheels at a minimum.
Will this setup work with a big set up wheels 28 inch rims with a +18 offset
AFAIK, offset should not matter. It’s the dish of the spokes that could interfere or clear the calipers. If the spokes curve outward, they would clear the calipers, but if they curve inward, they might hit the calipers.
It's been several months now but I really need the video for the rear upgrade. If you aren't doing the video soon could you at least tell me what parts to get so I can do mine?
Sorry, family life takes precedence. This is the kit I was going to use. The page lists all the parts you need for the swap: ctsvbrakeswap.com/collections/gm-truck-suv-kits/products/gm-truck-suv-4-piston-c7-rear-big-brake-bracket-kit
@littlemissgracing6515 thank you do much. I need to upgrade at the brakes on my 2010 Tahoe. I'm an Uber driver and have been for 4 years. I've had brake problems for the last 3 years.
One other note on the rear upgrade. If you add up the costs of the parts to convert to the Corvette calipers, you’ll easily be in the $1000+ range, and still end up with factory sized rotors. Also, finding used base C7 Corvette calipers on EBay, and for reasonable price, has been a challenge. So my plan is to come up with an alternative setup with larger rotors. I am doing some research on it, and am hoping to find a solution this coming year. Stay tuned.
I used Russell #672450 steel braided brake hose kit the mod on the 06 Yukon Denali.
Do you know if those are longer than the stock ones? I want to swap the stockers to slightly longer ones. Thanks
Hey, can this setup fit on a 2006 Trailblazer SS?
I am not a GM truck expert, so I don’t know. If front end parts (knuckles, brakes, wheels,…) interchange between the two platforms, it is possible, but don’t take my uneducated word for it 😩
Thank you for sharing. Did you feel a difference when stopping?
Yes. Even with Hawk pads I had on the stock setup, there is no comparison on how well this setup stops compared to stock. For me it was well worth the investment
Wow thank you for sharing. Question? Did you use a 2021 Tahoe to find all the parts you needed? Greatly appreciated and thanks again.👍🏻
@@broncoviejo78 I used all new parts from Rockauto.com. Finding wrecked/used 2021+ Tahoe PPVs in my area is very hard. You might luck out with the calipers from ebay or such. Thanks.
Do you know if this will work on a 2015 Sierra 1500?
From what I read, it should. However you will need 20” wheels at a minimum to clear the calipers, preferably the later model ones that have concave dishes. Thanks
Anyone know if they make these rotors drilled and slotted? If so where can I get them?
www.summitracing.com/parts/pwr-ar82209xpr/make/chevrolet/model/tahoe/submodel/ppv/year/2021
A bit pricey at $285 each, but the only one I found so far.
@@littlemissgracing6515 your awesome! Thank you!
Does your ABS system still work?
Yes it does.
will 18" wheel still fit in that setup?
Unfortunately no, not that I am aware of. The rotor is 16" diameter and the caliper is not low profile enough to clear an 18" wheel. You need a 20" wheel at a minimum.
@@littlemissgracing6515 thank you
Will these work for 14-18?????
It should as long as you run 20” and larger wheels
what lubricant u use?
Prestone disc brake quiet.
I have 2021 Silverado and I had the most amazing Cadillac wheels and tires to put on my truck. I went to put them on the front caliper was hitting the wheels. I hate Chevy now.
Thought about going out and buying brand new 2007 ish brake calipers so I could put these wheels on but it just doesn’t fit into the budget right now
Those Cadillac wheels and tires look good on my truck. I absolutely hate Chevy for doing that.
It’s a game of millimeters and GM quality imho. I lucked out that the 07 wheels cleared the calipers, by a fraction of an inch. I don’t have faith that it’s the same with all of them
🤔 *promo sm*
Fix that rim
I will.
