In the comic, it showed Dark Phoenix consuming entire planets and suns to quench her hunger. She craved it, and was addicted (like a drug) to the euphoria she got off of it. She just kept wanting more and more. When she died in the comic books, the entire Xmen fandom wept. That comic book issue went mint...back then. In fact, I think I still have my copy.
There was also another comic book series called What If.... And one issue was What If Phoenix Had Not Died? Narrated by the Watcher, it showed how Dark Phoenix had eventually consumed all of the suns and life in the universe.

Vinny Jones does not look like that; its a muscle suit. He is actually infamous for this role because he refused to get in shape for the role; and also the one liners obviously.
I believe Magneto is able to bend adamantium; I believe adamantium was never stated to be unbendable just unbreakable and it doesn't melt once hardened. Also if I recall Magneto bends Wolverine's claws in the earlier films.

Quill and Spike were both derived from an old comic character Porcupine. This character was a nemesis of Hank Pym. Since Marvel retained the license for Antman, Porcupine would probably have also been off limits to 20th Century Fox for this film. Incidentally the quills in the comics were poisonous.

James Marsden had scheduling conflicts because the director of the first two movies, Bryan Singer, left this in pre-production to do Superman Returns, and took Marsden with him. Fox made Marsden be in it for a little bit so they could at least write him out. Singer was then replaced by Matthew Vaughn, who finished the casting and then also left. Brett Ratner then was brought in and actually directed it this time.

Movie character is just a nod to them, not meant to have any major development.
"Can Mystique/Magneto/Wolverine do/not do this?" Generally up to whoever is writing that week, and may change. Mystique used to just be appearance change, then at one point could grow wings with great effort, now has complete control over her moleculte structure if they want her to.

I think it was largely, on the account of X-Men fans, because they so quickly rushed over and botched the Dark/Phoenix Saga, even relegating what little there was of it to almost a secondary story to the Mutant Cure story.
It's a common complaint of film adaptations of long running media (such as comics), that major story events are minimized to a part of a single, relatively short film.
If planing for a long X-Men film run, a better bet would have been to just do the Mutant Cure story, with finding a comatose Jean Grey near the end. Setting that up for future stories. In the comics she returned as Phoenix Hero before going "Dark" (It was far more complicated than that, as is typical of the comics, with universal forces, and cones, etc.).

If you're curious about the post credits scene, there was a part cut from the film that showed that the patient that had no brain activity was named "P. Xavier". This person was intended to be the twin of Charles (an adaptation from the twin sister he had in the comics). The explanation was supposed to be that when they were born, Charles' mental powers were so strong that they led to his twin brother being born without any brain activity. The doctor (Moira McTaggart) kept watch over the twin for Charles. Then, just before Jean killed him, Charles transferred his mind into his twins body (pretty much resurrecting himself in the process). Because the studio made the cuts to the film and there were no other references to the twin, it led to a lot of confusion from that scene.

So… Juggernaught is Xavier’s half-brother. He’s not a mutant, his helmet is empowered by some obscure god of destruction. He cannot (by definition) be stopped once he’s in motion. But remove his helmet, and he stops being empowered by his god. Spider-Man is very effective at dodging his attacks, jumping onto his shoulders, and pulling the helmet off. Once he’s at rest, he can be kept at rest, but once he’s in motion he cannot have his motion halted.
When he is finally integrated into the MCU, he’ll probably play in the Dr. Strange / Moon Knight space.

Yes, Mystique injected metal into the guard. My interpretation is that she only did that to give Magneto enough metal to use effectively, and make a quick escape.
He is able to control the electromagnetic spectrum in the comics and if I remember correctly, in the animated series as well, but they don’t really explore that element of his abilities in the movies.

"Losing the girl to dark magic" was a somewhat common trope back in the 90's.
nothing hits harder than knowing that if you couldn't have her before, now not only can't you have her even less, but you have to take her down because she's beyond saving.
there's an episode from either Goosebumps or Weird Science (I think. LOOONG time ago.) where the lead guy finds the perfect girl and she's turned full Dark Phoenix at the end... I was watching it hoping for the happy ending, and short of went full Vader at that: "nNNnnnNnoooOOoOoooo!"
from there, Mission Impossible 2 in 2002, averted by Ethan getting the cure for the Chimera at the end, 2006 here, with Logan killing Jean, Brutal Legend from 2009 with Eddie losing Ophelia, 2019 with GOT and Danny, and Arcane in 2021, with Jinx being the living image of my 8th grade crush.
