We have made friends with the guy at our City Market. He sells us the fruit and vegetables that are starting to go bad at a great discount. We told him that we are feeding the wildlife, (A wildlife preserve borders our property). We showed him pictures of a lot of the animals we have managed to take pictures of. We love doing this and walking the paths through the preserve.
Wow how kind of you to do that and thank you for sharing! Any assistance to the wildlife from adding nutrition always helps! Thank you for watching and by watching, supporting the animals in our area with your views!
In Alaska feeding large game animals is against the law. Even leaving trash so bear can get it can lead to a fine.
@@Chris_at_Home we aren't supposed to do it either, but I think that the needs of the animals outweigh the law. We practice civil disobedience. 🙂
@@TheOutdoorTheater we feel that it is a privilege to do this. We also feel lucky for living near a preserve and a lake. It is one way we can give back to nature for what it gives us.
I live in a small Mediterranean village surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and more. I will have to try this. The local farmers market would be ideal and keep any costs to a minimum. Thank you for the inspiration. Merc beaucoup.
I don't know why, but watching these videos makes me happy and de-stresses me from my daily troubles. It is like my daily therapy to see the animals out in nature free and enjoying the free food.
It's called being present in the here and now!
I was telling a friend about them, exactly how they make me feel.
Sure beats politics.

My husband and I used to take carrots and apples to the cemetery near us at twilight then sit and watch the deer come to eat. It is a memory I treasure.
I thought that first deer was going to eat all the fruit!
We thought so too! He definitely had a fruit buffet and enjoyed himself! Thank you for watching!

That deer was a bully who scared away the other deer. Naughty, naughty!

I want you to know…because of this video, we went and bought a bunch of apples, pears, carrots, cabbages, lettuces, grapes, and 3 of those big aluminum foil roasting pans. My wife and I hiked out into the BLM, put the food in a big pile like you did, filled the pans with water and left it. We’ll go back in a few days and see if they liked it. :) Such a great video, thank you!

My heartfelt thank you to the person feeding those beautiful animals! I love them too!
Deer LOVE apples....ask any apple grower! So beautiful.
They sure do! They also really love pears apparently! Thanks for watching!
Apple seeds can be very bad though, but yes, yes they do.
They love to raid my tree, and I love seeing them
The deer eats so daintily. I think he loves the pears.
I was hoping the deer would learn how to hold the larger pieces down with one foot to make the piece easier to eat!
We agree! That was the main thing we learned through this video was that deer love pears maybe even more than apples! The buck was sniffing and digging into the pile to pull out the pears first! Thanks for watching!
I have often noticed that if you leave something special for the crows they will return with a gift.
Thanks for watching!
I have a family of crows on my property. I feed and make sure their water is available and clean. In return they leave things for me, and make loud calls when someone or something enters my property.
Crows are wonderful at making sure the family ( 50 odd) are alerted to food stocks from bins , and litter around our local parks.....
I love to feed them to see who is going to join their feast: usually a young GULL and some wild Geese turn up as we have a good water supply with the river and loads of fish....
If the sports club have left their beer can around the car park......the Crows have a lot of fun and fights finishing the last drops........
The Crows have "Scouts" following me in the trees and on the rooftops to my local shop.....and back through the park to literally line up for monkey nuts and bread.....
One very large adult fell against my window a few days ago......He was very calm about me checking his wings.......and placing him on the garden chair to see if he needed any other help......it started to rain lightly and I thought he looked cold, but after he allowed me to stroke him.. he then flew off!
We scored 10 pounds of marmot food. It's pellets. Do you think we should put piles of it out in various places in the forest? We are in a forested area of Northern Calif. Thank you for your spy cams. I love watching the animals...always!

I like the way their eyes glow in night vision. I wouldn't have seen that second deer standing in the background if it weren't for the eyes
I love this channel and just subscribed. We used to feed wild animals like this in Boy Scout camp in the early 70’s. No such thing as trail cameras back then but the exercise was about identifying the different animal tracks on the ground the next morning. We’d clear the bait area of leaves to leave only damp mud in the forest. This was in northern Wisconsin and a huge number of different wild animals live up there. Us scouts were given a paper that showed the front and back footprints of every animal in our woods, from mice to raccoons, to deer and bears. Two pages of footprints to study and try to get them right. Our bait was a mix of fruits and vegetables, bread and hotdogs, and a pile enough for every nocturnal animal in the area. Our tents were pitched at camp about a half-mile from the bait area we’d hike to in the morning to decipher which animals were here and what happened. It was like a forensic study of a crime scene.
“I think the deer were here first and then the bear scared them off. The raccoons I think came afterwards for the leftovers. The mice and voles after them. Just based on the animal tracks I see here. But who knows what order they came? They certainly weren’t all feeding together in peace here last night though.”
“You should be a detective when you grow up, Brian…”
I never became a detective but instead a biologist. Kinda the same thing. Sifting clues, trying to understand behavior. But I’ve always fed the wild and feral animals wherever I lived. Just never had a camera with night vision until I moved to Canada just a few years ago. I saw the tracks in the mud and the snow in winter and knew I was dealing with deer, raccoons, feral cats, and the occasional cougar on my land at night. Bears are here too, but not in my yard as the tracks would have easily give them away. Got a close-circuit infrared camera and mounted it to the shed, ran the cable to a dedicated television in my house, put the cat food and a bowl of water in the yard and waited, while watching cable television on my other TV. I knew by the amount of raccoon tracks that I’ve seen, that they were the dominant animal in my yard. (Using my old Boy Scout animal track identification of course) And sure enough, here I see yellow eyes coming into my yard from the back woods. But there’s a circle of infrared light that is invisible to humans that the raccoons avoided crossing to get to the food. I discovered that raccoons can see infrared light. And they don’t like it. Looking out the window, my yard is pitch black. I cant see the raccoons or the food bowls, or the camera. On the monitor I can see the raccoons looking directly at the camera and deciding if it’s safe to move into this intense infrared light that I can’t see at all. Amazing. The temptation of the food and my complete silence, quelled their fear and they just relaxed and took turns at the bowl of cat food and water bowl. So fun to watch. It was dry cat food so most of the raccoons would grab some cat food and drop it in the water bowl to moisten it up before eating it. Smart buggers. I kept this going for a couple years and knew the whole family of raccoons, and named them. They’re a feisty bunch and no other animals will challenge a bunch of raccoons. That’s commonly known in the animal world as, a bad idea.
So my raccoons dominated my yard with no challengers. One Spring, Elvira brought her babies to the food and water bowl. So cute.
One of the babies just hated the camera and stared at it. It’s up 6 feet and screwed into the shed and I saw this raccoon baby walk straight to the camera and he was out of frame for a moment. Then I see this huge raccoon face on my monitor as he’s yanking on the camera and trying to rip it off the wall of the shed. And then I see on my monitor that he succeeded in that, since now I’m looking directly straight down at the grass at the base of the shed. I had to laugh. That little sucker. I turned on the porch light and the raccoons scattered. With a flashlight I assessed the damage to the camera. No damage, it was still working, he just ripped it off the mount and it was hanging by its cable. I screwed the camera back on the wall the next morning and my raccoon live tv show was back on the air. One of my favorite shows of all time but nobody could watch it but me and that’s fine. My raccoons never wanted to be famous anyway.
Love your channel and keep up the fun animal feeding and filming. You’re good people.
What a cool story! I had a pet squirrel at one time but my favorite was my loop ear bunny that lived in the house free roaming bc he had his very own 2 story palace we built with his litter box which he always used, never went in the house!
Animals are so smart, maybe that’s why I prefer them over humans!
Love your kindness and videos 🥰 from Oklahoma
@@mommabear3979 , Thank you. I see you’re one of us then. I too like animals more than people. Actually, most of us feel this way.
This is a common trait among most species of animals as well. The reason people don’t like people all that much is, we understand them too well. We fear them, are suspicious of their intentions at all times. Sometimes surprised by kindness and generosity but still wary of them.
Humans can be cruel and mean and we know this, so we avoid the ones that may harm us, best we can. Our species is comprised of lots of different groups and factions and history has taught us that we will declare war on each other for the silliest of reasons. But, we do still possess love and compassion most times and we haven’t destroyed our own species completely. Yet.
With animals, it’s a little different and pretty much the same way. They compete with their own kind for food and shelter and don’t actually like each other that much. But there’s no hate in animals. Especially unwarranted hate. They fight to survive but it’s usually not personal.
My raccoons squabbled constantly with each other but there’s a line that’s not often crossed. Humans will needlessly kill each other for no reason but hate. Others in self-defense or defense of their turf. Animals do that too, but it’s just survival. No hate or judgement involved, it’s that this one must be out of my area. However that is achieved, is necessary to survival.
Hang on a second…okay I’m back. Here’s something strange and barely relevant to the topic. As I was writing this, a huge wasp flew in the window and was buzzing around my head and the living room. Very strange, not many insects around in November in Washington, they’re supposed to be hibernating underground by now. But this confused yellow jacket found a source of heat and here he is. Was.
I love all animals but I’m allergic to bee venom. If it was just a honey bee, I’d let it crawl on my hand and admire its beauty. Honey bees don’t sting unless provoked because they know they’ll die since they’re stinger is barbed and they can’t remove it without pulling out their guts in the process. So a honey bee can only sting once in its life. They know this, so they don’t sting very often. Wasps and hornets can sting however many times they want and they have an attitude problem because of this. So just now, it’s me or the wasp. So I killed it with a magazine when it landed on my wall. Survival of the fittest. A defensive killing. I wish it hadn’t come in my house but it did. One sting could put me in anaphylactic shock and kill me. So I’m sorry, the wasp needed to go.
I didn’t intend this rant to go on this long but a story within a story just materialized so I jotted it down.
Take care and stay safe out there in Oklahoma my friend. 🤙🏼
@@Woodstock271 another lovely story! Enjoyed every minute of it! Stay blessed my friend 💞🧘♀️✨💞

It's the banana skin that they don't like. It is bitter.
Interesting, thanks!
that first deer who found the food got so defensive he didn’t even want to share with the other deer and chased her away! :(
If you’re curious about the way the deer eats the apple, it’s because they don’t have upper front teeth…they have a plate. The bottom teeth cut as the upper plate holds the food in place. They have very sharp upper and lower molars for grinding, once they get a bite broken off. If you watch them, you see they move their heads to help cut their food.

Thank you for what you do and sharing it with us 😊❤❤
The video showed the fruit being prepped, but what was poured out on the ground were whole fruits and half bananas with the skin still on. The video showed animals with small mouths came and struggled to eat the fruit. The apples could be quartered to make it easier for the deer to get a bite; the bananas peeled, pears quartered; maybe some of the fruit in even smaller pieces for the little critters that were attracted but had to give up. Your idea of giving the woodland animals a tasty treat is a cool idea in that it gave the animals something they never thought about before or tasted. I'll bet they will return to that spot in the future looking for more goodies. Thank you for not putting out spoiled fruits.
Even a partridge decided to partake.

When I was little we had an apple tree in our garden late Summer into Autumn they would drop we used to leave some of the apples on the ground, they would ferment and occasionally you would see a happy squirrel or two getting drunk on the alcohol then sleeping it off up a tree it was quite amusing.
The way that buck went at it I thought it was gonna be a short video.

Those last bits covered with deer slobber....
We feed our squirrels peanuts. At first they showed no interest. When they discovered they were a new source of food, they stashed peanuts all day - and when the pile ran out, they’d let you know. It took one weekend at the cabin before these squirrels would eat on your lap. After that, they would fearlessly come out of the woods and head straight for anyone near the cabin.
Wow thanks for sharing! We found out that squirrels and blue jays love peanuts after our latest video linked here: ua-cam.com/video/dpYpzue_yR8/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared

It didn’t seem as though the does were eating, just smelling. I wonder if it’s because of the smell of the buck eating before them? Very cool to watch!
