  • This is how I removed the setscrew on the hose bib back-flow preventer that they snap off after they install them. By law they are supposed to snap these twist on set screws off, after installation.

I just did this thanks to you. I used my Dremel tool with the blade, made a cut and used wd40, then un screwed it. The guy at Ace hardware was floored that my old part was in one piece. I cant thank you enough.

I had no luck with drilling (before I saw your video) and was unable to get a sufficient notch with my dremel, so I got out my angle grinder and carefully ran it over the set screw area, and with minimal contact I was able to destroy that screw and unscrew the unit without damaging the threads. May not be recommended, but as a last resort, it worked.

Good shit man! I used a oscillating tool to make my cut. Thank you for sharing.

I was also able to use a hacksaw to create a small groove in the remainder of the set screw, and it removed easily. It only took about 1 minute of cutting. I didn't care about cutting into the brass around it with the hacksaw as I was going to replace it anyway. The screw removed easily as it was only a year old anyway. Once the screw was removed, the fitting removed easily by hand. Your method would likely work even if there wasn't much material left, as the hacksaw can still create enough of a groove to remove the set screw.

The set screw was on the back of mine. I ended up cutting it off with an oscillating tool
