No this movie shouldn’t have made me cry this much from watching it the first time in the movie theater. From the girl feeling emotionally abandoned by her father but was feeling such guilt, to the mother having to endure such pain in such little time and HAS TO BE QUIET?!?!, and them going from having their family living somewhat peacefully and then all this happened in ONE NIGHT?!? i can’t, stil a great movie

This movie made me fall in LOVE with Emily blunt. Her acting in this was phenomenal. The part where she’s in pain because of the nail and having CONTRACTIONS all while trying to be quiet is sooo good

The first time I saw this movie it gave me ptsd flashbacks from when I stepped on a nail in a raggedy farm house and fell down a flight of stairs breaking my back in two places and being stranded at the bottom until somebody found me two hours later. She got off easy and I don’t wanna hear her complain once! 😂

Emily Blunt won the SAG award for her performance. It was very surprising at the time because she was the only actress in the category not nominated for an Oscar for her role that year, and also overall those kind of awards bodies don’t usually tend to give genre films big awards.

Watching this movie in theaters was such a painful experience because you could hear EVERYTHING in the theater, watching this at home is def the move 😂
I see ppl bringin up the waterfall all the time, and while it seems reasonable in theory, it can actually be more dangerous once you get used to the sound of the waterfall. You'll notice at 9:22 that not all sound is completely tampered by the waterfall, so if any sound happens to catch the attention of an alien nearby, you wouldn't be able to detect the aliens until they're literally on top of you. It would ironically be like their daughter's situation.
he was screaming in there and nothing happened, how much louder can you get than that?? also the house is not safe when it comes to detecting them until they are on top of you, it's exactly what happened. they didn't think some things well when they made the movie bc it's easy to come up with ideas that would make their life easier. like tie a bell to a very long rope to get their attention idk.
@@PalitoSelvatico what? The house is for the most part silent. They painstakingly went through the process to ensure as much (and who's to say they weren't planning to make more improvements as time went on before everything went to shit?). So in the house they would be able to hear the aliens' approach (and see them if they happen to be near surveillance) because they are not silent in their approach. They're fast, but not quiet, you could clearly hear them when they were wandering up the steps for instance. Unlike the waterfall where there is a constancy of sound, where you won't be able to pick up on their movements if they're close by since in that case, their movements will be quieter than the loudest source - the waterfall. Have you ever been to a concert? Your ears adjust to the loud music, but you will have trouble hearing people a few feet from you until you lean in to focus on their voices. That kind of proximity will get you killed, obviously. Not to mention, being that close to a constant sound is bound to damage your hearing, which is vital for survival in this world. When you leave a concert, your ears ring until they are able to adjust to the "normal levels" of everyday life. It would be akin to blasting music on max volume in your ears for the rest of your life.
I can go on and on with explanations why the waterfall would be a horrible idea but I'll stop here, because guess what, it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of the story. It's still emotionally effective regardless of minor "holes" in the world. I'm just pointing out one of the most ludicrous "plot holes" people claim is wrong with this film.
Still seems a lot safer to live by the waterfall than where they currently lived
Not only that but well it is true that the waterfall might be safe, the family has made a home in their current shelter and there is no reason to abandon it.
They had food. They had shelter. A underground bunker. Resources. They actually don't have to be as quiet as they are being at the farm, it's just a precaution. Like using soft items on the board game just so they don't clank. It's the extra steps they've taken that allow them to live safely.
Abandoning all that and having to set up a new base by the waterfall? That's a lot of time and energy. Like there is a reason most people don't live that close to waterfalls, it's hard to maintain.

John Krazynski and his beautiful wife Emily Blunt were so good in this. And the daughter as well. I always sob at the sacrifice scene with the dad. This was such a breath of fresh air, and I think the silence really adds to the tension.
And the shots ughhh gorgeous. That fire works scene is BEAUTIFUL visually.

This film got me in the feels SO bad too. I was sobbing, and then was effected by it for several days later.
The 1st child being killed at the beginning does set the stage of what this film is about.
Every actor on this film put EVERYTHING into their performance. The family bonds they show in such a inhospitable environment just gets to you. The Dad doing everything he can to help his daughter survive in such awful circumstances. The last words in sign language at the end being so expressive. It's an absolutely stunning language. 😭
Emily blunts performance was absolutely phenomenal. I saw this in theaters and when that tub scene happened I thought I was gonna fall out of my chair from anxiety!
The more quiet the movie the more time for YOU which is what we came here for 😂❤

I haven't seen all of this movie, but I will say that I kinda respect it for going all out and killing a kid. Not only that, but a really young kid at the beginning of the movie! It definitely establishes that these monsters ain't fuckin' around!
Me and my brother went to the movies to see this opening week. We went to the AMC dine in movie and ordered the crunchiest foods ( Quesadilla and nachos) not realizing the whole movie was going to be quiet. 😩 The theater would laugh at us everytime we tried to take a bite of something. We ended up wolfing our food down during the waterall scene. 🤣

2: JEEESUS this damn film. I had the EXACT (no hyperbole) same monsters and setup as a nightmare when I was a kid 16 years ago. I am not shitting you here. ONLY difference with the monsters is that they didn't have this complex ear thing visible. And it was a loop dream. Meaning, every time I died (goal was to hide my fam in a quiet room to not be heard and found), the dream would restart from the beginning until the goal was achieved. Gurl I died 100+ times until I woke up and this stress which seemed real during the dream, made me have my first white hair strands. This movie is literally my childhood's nightmare and one of my favorite horror movies of all times. THANK YOU for the vid, you made me crack down at one of the most stressful horror movies of my life.

Okay-this is one caught me off guard. Never expected John Krazinski to make an emotionally moving horror film. But, goes to show that sometimes people known for comedy can hit with the drama. The entire cast was amazing and love everything about this film.
I do have an out of context request: there is such a cheesy gay rom com I have been waiting for you to watch: Red White and Royal Blue. It’s super silly, but also really cute. In the vein of Heartstoppers and Young Royals. Would kill to see you watch two incredibly beautiful men fall in love with each other.
