Looks great Sam. My Grand Daddy had a couple of saying... "Nothing is as bad as it seems" and "The worst part of a job is getting started". Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic. It’s more work and a little added expense but some chicken wire stuffed into the bottom rows and mortared in with a stiff mortar mix will keep the little boogers perplexed. I’d also mortar all the gaps to make that wall a fort. Kids love to climb rock walls and if they dislodge a big one…😮
That certainly would shore things up a bit better. I'd really like to excavate it all because you're right, it could be dangerous. Might need some dynamite! Lol, jk 🤠👍
Thank you! It did make me nervous. That one I had to shove into place had to weigh 600+lbs!!! I'd love to just dig it all out. But what would I do with all those boulders?!?! 🤠👍
There's a cheaper one at Harbor Freight. It's built a little closer to the ground to make it easier to pour. I have the one like you showed. It's hard to pour. The framework gets in the way. Take a look at it before you buy. Don't forget that you have to lift the bag up off the ground to dump it in. Good luck. Bob
@robertmcdonnold3038 Thank you! I plan on trying to lift the bags with the tractor. We'll see if that works. I ordered the Yardmax. Hope it stands up to the good reviews. It'll certainly be better than mixing in a wheelbarrow 🤠👍
@@richardschaffling9882 Thank you! I know, right? They definitely built the whole barn with primitive hand tools. I sort of wish it was better taken care of and still standing 🤠👍
Sam you are making some great progress. Looks better every time you work. Just wanted to let you know, Harbor Freight also makes a cement mixer. I don't know much about it but I've seen it used in other videos and it seemed to work fine. Just another option. Keep up the great work buddy. Thanks for another video.
Thank you! I am considering the Harbor Freight mixer too. The price is about the same. I'll watch a bunch of videos before I decide. Then, I'll make one of my own, lol 🤠👍
Check market place for a used mixer. People buy them for a project then trip over it for a while then sell them cheap just to get it out of the garage.
@jasone679 Thank you! I've been checking for a bit. Most I've seen would save me about 100 bucks. That's not nothing, but I also don't know if they've beaten it up. I'll probably just go with a new one for this purchase 🤠👍
@@samsdoinstuff It really does work. I follow "Lets Dig 18", I think he is the best excavator I have seen. Anytime he has to do a "pouring" motion with the excavator he turns the bucket around. I was born into the masonry business and the whole time I was watching you, I kept debating tuck pointing those stone in place. I am still not sure, but I do agree it would be nice if you could just rip it all out. Keep the stones if you ever do!
Sam I have the big cement mixer from harbor freight and use it for cement mortar and mix chicken feed and have had it for 2 years and runs great and I use it at least 1 times every month and a half
Dry stack block.... fill the 2 square holes with sand then heep stacking then top off with 4" solid block don't mortar stack too much work for that area and down the road simple to change and recycle block.
@@CentralNH You're the 2nd viewer who has suggested doing that. Now I'm really starting to second guess my original plans. I don't know. It is a lot of work to mortar stack, but I kinda want to do it. I must be crazy 🤠👍
I mentioned it before, Sam, but I'll do it again. Don't use mortared blocks on that low wall you pointed out a few weeks ago. That is a perfect place for "dry stacked blocks. For the height of that wall, they will be perfect,, AND it is easy to correct mistakes. Plus, should you decide to change things later, they can easily be reused anywhere. Been there, done that, went back and did it again
@EdLeeper thank you. I do appreciate the idea, but I really am leaning towards cinder blocks. I know it will be a much more permanent option, but I'm okay with that 🤠👍
Always plenty of stuff to do! I just set my mind to do something and get started, sometimes I finish on my schedule I set and sometimes I don't, but I at least I tried!! Looks good!!
@samsdoinstuff Re: concrete mixers, try the Kushlan 6.0 cubic foot machine. A little more than the one you were looking at but way better in terms of the machine.
Another great video for your woodyard project . . .BUT, maybe a missed opportunity to inform your viewers about Polk Salad (or poke sallet) including the health benefits as well as the poison risk associated with it. My country bride seems to think that the removal of the roots may help to eliminate or reduce your groundhog problem. Again, always looking forward to what ever 'stuff' you come up with next.
Yes! You're right. A viewer told me those were poisonous in an earlier video. I hope she's right about removing the roots. The birds like them, but I'd rather not have them around 🤠👍
Nice job But on lst the last big bolder you still had a Gap between the concreat platform and the bolder. WHY didnt you fill some of the small rocks to till it was under the concrete plateform to shear it up and stabilize
When building a stone wall you start with the biggest ones and work your way up until you have only smallish stone that you can man handle. I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with the wall you built, in wall building circles that style is known as random rubble which is asn’t athetically pleasing to my eye anyway good job Sam 🏴👍🏻
@@ewanstewart8011 Thank you! The method to my madness was to use the square ones on the corner and the base. Then I tried to pick the biggest ones, if they fit the space. As far as the bots goes FTC just changed the law about bots and reviews. Has something to do with companies giving people items to review for 5 star ratings. It took effect Oct 14th. So alot of the bots are being removed.
