I'm so glad to stumble on your channel! You provide a huge amount of value with your content. I installed a backdrop in my kitchen so I can do some work in the cold winter of Germany.
Good stuff Luca. Instead of painting the ceiling black, you should consider screwing a 3x4m grey rug up there. The carpet will help you with your light fall off as well as clean up the audio acoustics in your video work.
@@LucaLombardiPhoto Hi can we use a speedlight for the gradient part or is it too Week? Secondly is a grid really needed to create the gradient effect?
Thank you!! In my environment and market I'm known by the right clients, agencies, etc.... but on youtube I'm not there yet..! Working on it! :) Please check my video about the worst top 5 photography inquiries if you want to have a laugh!
EXCELLENT ! I appreciate how you present your experiences. Quick and to the point. I left the business when the digital revolution happened and went a more steady corporate route. I have been miserable ever since i left photography. NO MORE! Your video helped me realize that i can get back to what i love despite the fact that i dont have the studio any more. THANK YOU
Wow thank you very much! I hope you'll get back into photography! In these coming weeks I'll prepare a few videos about film photography in studio and outdoors, mostly with my Zenza Bronica etrsi, so make sure you follow me! 😝
This was a really great video. Your studio space and advice is very well thought of and presented. I have a large space in our house which I use sometimes for corporate or families but as I mostly shoot clients on site or outdoors, I didnt convert the space and set up wall mounts but was planning to. Its tough to make lightstands fit, so these wall mounts are great. The backdrop system is a plan too as setting up my 270cm seamless each time is such a task, and changing it is too complex. Thanks. You have boosted me to make some changes. Keep up the great videos. Your pics a genuine and lovely, one pro to another. I also like the choice of grey walls and the advice on humidity.
Thank you very much! Yes, I strongly suggest you to do the full conversion, you'll be much more productive, happier to work, look cooler, and efficient!
Thanks so much Luca for sharing this video. Presently I am a sport photographer with plans to shoot portraits and full body "sports traits". For this I need a studio. After watching your video, I can see a portion of my three bay garage being made into a studio. Presently I keep my Cobra car in one bay on a four post car lift. I may sell the lift, as I sold the boat I used to keep under the Cobra and no longer need the lift. The funds from the lift will serve to defray some costs associated with making the studio. And, because I planned the car lift when I designed the house, the garage ceilings are 12ft tall. I have accumulated many light modifiers and strobes over the years as I've set up temporary "studios" in my living room. Thanks again for the well done video which has given me inspiration. Ted in Sebastian, Florida.
awesome home studio Luca! that wall mounted softbox with boom arm is a fantastic idea. i also have a home studio in Doha. i converted my living room area although im afraid to drill any holes in my apartment so i just used light stands and c stand. keep it up the good work! best of luck!
@@LucaLombardiPhoto Hi Luca for the gradient light on 7:53 can I use a round head speed light or is that not powerful enough? Also do I need a grid for the gradient to take effect?
I never painted my ceiling in my old shoot space. Thumb tacked black fabric to the ceiling. I'm converting my garage into a studio now. I put in some babypin plates on the ceiling. Now i clamp 80x120cm reflector panels to the ceiling instead of tacking up black muslin.
Hi Luca, thanks for this video. Very informative. i am looking to set up a small studio for my small business of home products. could give some tips n tricks on shooting objects. maybe a youtube video on it. Thank you.
Great video, I just converted a storage building into a photography studio that is 3.7 wide by 7.2 (12x24). I have a question how many metres from the floor did you mount the wall brackets for the boom arm?
Love your work, especially the one you've done with the beauty dish ...i would love to try it, then in terms of studio photographer light, do you have a specific that you can recommend one to buy, ?
Thank you! Honestly I don't have a brand do recommend, but I can suggest you to buy lights with a Bowens mount (Godox, Jinbei, Elinchrome, etc....) because it's much easier and cheaper to find modifiers. Don't go crazy with expensive flashes, Godox or Jinbei will work amazing
Really nice studio set up! Curious at what power you have the two softboxes in the back set to so that you have enough for the rim light without blowing out details on your subject and what power do you have your main key light set to? Thnx
Thank you! I don't remember the exact settings, sorry! But they are different brands, with different scales, etc.. I should check with a light meter next time
Amazing:) so all 3 lights you are using are flash/strobe lights and they are triggered ,all 3,by the on camera flash triger? i have similar setup but just 1 godox ad400 pro studio flash and 1 video light:) i will need 3 studio flashes to get that result?
Thank you! Technically you can mix strobes and video lights, but you'd need to power down as much as possible the strobes, max power on the video lights, longer shutter speed to allow the light of video lights to hit the sensor, so you might have blurred images and weak results. My suggestion is to avoid the headache and always use strobes. Money-saving tip, since you have already a ad400, if you don't want to spend too much buying other 2, buy 2 cheap ebay strobes with a OPTICAL CELL, so that they will get triggered by the flashing of your main strobe. Of course you'll have to manually set the power of the cheap ones, but who cares... My 2 strobes in the softboxes are cheap "quantuum" (with 2 U), a sort of Ebay brand, bought in 2010 for peanuts
Good luck! 😁 I can shoot full body portraits at 50mm with still a good subject/background distance and no distortion. Close up portraits I tried 90mm apsc, so 135mm equivalent, perfect 👍
@@LucaLombardiPhoto thank you very much. That's a good hight, and a necessary to take full body shots, certainly if you want to have some space between the backdrop and your model.
@@cisdevolder Yesterday I had a shooting with 4 adults, group pictures, and I managed to keep them 1.5m from the background but I had to make them stay very close to each other, so I think with this studio size a comfortable limit without squeezing too much can be 3 adults of a family of 5 (that you can squeeze because they are a family...!)
Hello Best studio photography 👌 So I want to now this studio complete All the price let me know please because of I want to start Photography soon Am here to Woching your chenal In Switzerland 🇨🇭 orgi from Somalia 🇸🇴 Thank you very much 🤝
Hey thank you very much! I don't know the price of my studio because I bought things throughout the years, but I think that you can build a good one with not more than 1000$ plus the cost of cameras and lenses
The full body image of the girl was shot at 50mm (camera held vertically) so it's big enough for undistorted full body images with enough subject/background distance 👍
So your studio is 20 square meters. Thats very small but it semms to be enough for what you do. I do boudoir and fetish shootings, i need lots of stuff to create the atmosphere, more room is needed. I see you have a very high ceiling. Normal homes do not have this hich is a problem if the model is standing as the light has to come from above.

I love the idea of the light behind the model. Very nice.
Good stuff Luca. Instead of painting the ceiling black, you should consider screwing a 3x4m grey rug up there. The carpet will help you with your light fall off as well as clean up the audio acoustics in your video work.
Yes, I'm considering that too, I hope it won't catch too much dust
Dark grey acoustic panels will do the same job a a lot cleaner, lighter weight and easier to fit.
