- In this tutorial, I demonstrate how to setup the bitcoin-only BitBox02 signing device in the BitBox App using the 24-word recovery seed phrase, how to receive bitcoin, and I also show how to set it up in Sparrow Wallet and, using that app, how to send bitcoin.

Thanks for watching! ✌️🍎
Thanks for the tutorial!
Btw, you don't have to skip the microSD-backup in the beginning if you want to show your 24 word seed phrase. Under 'manage device' you can always instruct the BitBox02 to show your seed phrase on its display!
Yeah, that’s a good point. Doesn’t hurt to have some redundancy with the backups (one on an SD card and one of the words)
Yes, but if you create the SD card backup, you've created a further security vulnerability, because if you lose that tiny SD card and someone else learns what's stored on it you have lost all your Bitcoin. And since it's such a tiny object, it's pretty easy to lose. If that unencrypted SD card exists somewhere in the World, you are vulnerable. If you just have the seed words, you only have to focus 100% on keeping those safe and fully confidential. Or maybe you could add a passphrase, to reduce the security vulnerability of the SD card backup getting lost and into someone else's hands?
Excellent video - just finally got Sparrow sorted and connected to my node and I also run a BB02 - thanks for showing the setup to Sparrow
Nice explained 😎 so everybody understand it, good job. Could you make an video on verify: BitBox02 firmware reproducible builds? Thanks!
Great vid!
Thanks for video. Question. Is your sparrow wallet connected to your node at the time of the video?
Nope, it’s connected to a public node atm.
Thanks for the video! Do you have any guidance or opinion on using the Ledger Nano X ? Looking to learn about cold storage wallets.
I'd generally stay away from Ledger products since they're closed source and there isn't a good way to know whether they're sneaking in backdoors into their firmware. Trezor, Coldcard from Coinkite, Blockstream Jade, BitBox, Foundation Passport are all better options and all have open verifiable firmwares.
@@wickedsmartbitcoin this aged well
can you sign the transaction without being connected to the computer, e.g, manually using the micro sd card to transfer it back and fourth?
No, I don't believe BitBox supports airgapped signing. The SD card reader is exclusively used for storing encrypted seed phrase backups on SD cards.
If you lose your SD card backup and your bitbox, why do you lose your funds?
If you still have your seed phrase safely stored than you should still be able to buy any other device no?
Correct, they’re saying if you lose the BitBox and the (seed phrase) backup.
how would you rank the bitbox02 vs the other hardware wallets you have experience with (bitcoin only ofc)
I think it's a good signing device. The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is that it can't be used in an airgapped way (...it requires you to plug it into your computer/phone to sign).
@@wickedsmartbitcoinThe manufacturer says that air-gapping is an illusion of security. Data must be transmitted between computer and device, whether that be via USB, SD card, or QR codes and that can include malicious data. The security depends on how much work the manufacturer puts in to mitigating the possibility of transmission of any malicious data.
Hey wicked can I set up the bitbox to Nunchuk to have an extra hardware key to a multi sig wallet like I have with my Q and my jade ?
Maybe, if you’re able to plug it in. I don’t have an adapter to plug it into my phone so I can’t test that.
@@wickedsmartbitcoin thank you for your advice! Indeed I was thinking perhaps some adapter situation would have to occur with my iPhone for that to work. 🤙
Question:
Have several accounts in my Bitbox wallet. How can I import these accounts in sparrow ?
Click on Settings on the bottom left and then click add Account. Then select the account
@@dvx0705 I believe the question is not how to add an account, but how to watch the other accounts on Sparrow. I have 4 accounts on BB02 but I could only import 1 into Sparrow.
Stupid question: does it generate a unique address for every request to receive btc? I accidentally reused a previous address that was saved on the exchange from last time and panicked. The funds appear to have arrived however, but im paranoid something went wrong, it is just numbers on a screen after all!
You can reuse addresses but the standard practice is to use a new one every time you receive bitcoin.
Can't ask questions on Twitter so here I am. Is there something like cashapp for Canada?
Have you tried Bull Bitcoin? I’ve heard good things about them.
Are you doing this on an m series Mac. Any concern for the go fetch flaw
Yeah, it's an M1. I'm not too concerned since all of my signers are airgapped. I don't fully understand the flaw or its implications tbh though.
@@wickedsmartbitcoin Ty ...no more bitbox huh lol
@@Btree33 It's a decent device but I'm a bigger fan of the signing devices that are possible to use in an airgapped way.
@@wickedsmartbitcoin trying seedsinger now..i hope to share your enthusiasm for air gapped
imported to sparrow....no fingerprint shows up in bluewallet but my jade fingerprint shows up in bluewallet ..any ideas why ..thanks
In BlueWallet if you click on the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner, that should open a page with all of your wallet's info including the master fingerprint. You're saying that the MF is missing in that section?
