- Ok, buckle up because we’re about to set it off! By that I mean we are doing a more official shootout between Analog Vs Plugin! Now we can stack an “LA2A” and “1176” up against the same simulated plugins.
Today we combine an LA2A clone the, Wa2a, by Warm Audio. And the Rev A 1176 clone, Bluey by Black Lion Audio
Up against the LA2A and 1176 Rev A plugins by
Can you hear a difference? Does owning the real deal make a difference to you?

We knock analog for its recall issues
But the problem with software is that it could have issue for software updates and could also be discontinued,
I see analog gears getting a plugin GUI like the tegeler audio for recall purposes
100% I purposefully don’t update for this exact reason. I’ve already once had to restore from backup to have the software be compatible.
The analog is the real deal and the plugins do sound good and will give you great results but when comparing the two for me analog wins every time. What was vocal mic chain and interface used for tracking? Thanks😎👍
it looks like your mix knob for the bluey is at 0%? so you aren't actually using any of the compressed signal from the bluey?
Ah, good eye, truth is the audio is absolutely being compressed through the Bluey, that's B-Roll footage, not live. My mistake in missing that. The way I shot the video used that shot in post. I found a better way to capture the videos since this post, so I'll be better at eliminating those inconsistencies.
Yeaaaa man! This was great. Interesting that you decided to put the 2A before the Bluey..usually, I see guys using the 1176 style first followed by an optical style. Sounded good though!
Oh for sure. I just wanted to try the reverse order. That’s the Beauty of recording, there’s always more than one way to accomplish results!
Hey! Isn't the Bluey's Attack Knob reversed to the RevA (which is represented by the Plugin). So the Attack settings aren't same. 11 o'clock on bluey is more like 1 o'clock plug in, right?
You know what. You’re right! I’ll have to make the comparison over again. Cheers!
One cuestion: mix nob's in the bluey unit is in dry?? thanks for sharing!!
This is because the footage of the switching between settings was filmed separately and that detail was forgotten. But the audio that’s matched up is absolutely 100% mix knob all “in.”
can you do a video on how to connect both compressor with audio interface & pre amp ?
Yes we can!
Thanks so much! I’m getting into analog gear and I ordered the bluey along with an external pre amp. And have no idea how to connect them all! Your a life saver thanks 🙌🏾
@@aceaveli4008 what did you order? Perhaps we could have a few suggestions
@@justrecordspgh ok my current audio interface is the Apollo Twin. I ordered the black lion bluey compressor & looking to pair it with the AMS Neve 1073 preamp.
@@aceaveli4008 you would go thru the pre Amp then the bluey then to the twin
can we have one more (Round 3) ? to help me please
There will certainly be more shootouts. What specifically would help you out?
@@justrecordspgh thanks .. like raw dry Vocal and kick snare piano lead Syh if you can do soon as possible this thing now at 999$
@@mohabosama I will absolutely see what what I can do!
Sorry, but no respectable engineer would use that much compression with a plugin man. I've only seen 5 to 7 db tops from the likes of Andrew Scheps and other pro engineers. Sure, hardware will be a bit fuller and more present most of the time, but you have to approach plugins a bit differently in order to get the best results from them.
thank you for watching, and sharing your opinion.
@ThePeanut There are no rules. Whatever works, works. Quote from Andrew Schoeps. Eric Valentine and so on . .and of course, me
Yes, that much compression can be normal for lot of kind of music genres. If you have only seen 5 to 7 db of gain reduction you still have a path to walk
@@ibon473 hear this man ^^^
"no respectable engineer would use that much compression" man you really need to see this video in the minute 2:38: ua-cam.com/video/1QbtRkzfagU/v-deo.html
Digital is known for always over exaggerating the highs and making them sound harsh. Hence always crappy sounding symbols and high hats. That breath was a hissy high sound. The Blue is known for being darker, or more to the point smoother highs and hisses. The plugin compressors don't even come close to the hardware. A lot of types of plugins can come close to certain effects like modulation FX and Reverb, but in this stage of software tech not a good compressor or distortions. I still hate guitar amp sims even Neural in software. Distortion just plain sucks in the box at this point.
