Take the Black Camaro in memory of the original owner for the 20th running of DragWeek. Even if it doesn't do 8's it will still go down the track for the first time.
I agree with those who're saying that Black Beauty would be an awesome car to bring. It was a man's dream that never made it to the track and seems such a waste to not at least see what she can do. That and 8000RPM of a screaming V8 is something few have heard in today's drag racing. Just a thought and I know you're competitive, I mean what's the point if you aren't but it would sure be cool to see. Take care and God Bless...
The black Rally Sport. Take this one to remember those that have gone to an even better place...Paul Harrell just passed too....lots of the greatest people lately.
I vote for that black sb2 car. Would love to hear that thing screaming! But if your trying to win 1.0 would be ur best bet. But its not always about winning. Just go have fun man.
The Black Camaro seriously an old school Nascar motor (late 90's SB2). Please take it for many reasons honor the builder, just to hear the motor on the street. The car needs to run down the track, just do it for the adventure man.
I think it's time to fix 2.0 as best as possible and retire it, then build 3.0. The chassis has done it's job and is worn out now. Fixing it now is just going to be putting a bandaid on it. The damage will find a new place to show up and you might not get so lucky.
Most people don’t realize/understand that chassis for cars of this level do sustain fatigue over time. And race car tube chassis are not really designed for the continual stress of street driving.
I have to agree 2.0 is long in the tooth , I honestly think that's why you have been chasing your tail the last 1- 1-1/2 years. It's time for a 3.0 build it sleeker, so it goes through the air better and runs the mid 5's with it . 2.0 is giving you hints that she's ready to retire.
YES, YES, YES. Michigan Miles is gonna be great. I know I mentioned something like this to you and I’m sure others have also. Michigan has so much to offer with scenery and race tracks. I plan to definitely be there. Thanks Tom for pulling together an all MI event. I knew you could do it!
I 'm a fabricator of well over 20 years specializing in Tig welding of Aluinum, mild steel, and stainless steel. Never had the opportunity to build out a chassis but it seems like that horizontal is undersized to handle the stress and heat from the number of welds and heat cycles making it brittle. Im now doomed to spotting every car build looking at this area like a bad song you caint get out of your head! Stay Safe Tom.
Hey Tom, you mentioned traveling Michigan for a drag and drive. There are no tracks Southwest of US 131 dragway. But, Three Rivers Michigan hosts an event called the Airfield Drags every August. Not sure it would be appropriate for sub 7 second cars but it is an eighth mile event.
1.0 , then black Beauty (unproven) , then whatever after that. No more Durango for now. Great idea about next summer,.I live on the Ontario side of Lake Huron and I agree with what you are saying. many thanks.
Black SB2 Camaro, I don’t think your plan B should be as fast or faster than your first choice, most plan next cars are either the wife’s suv or a rental. But it is nice to have choices.
I'm going to go with the masses and say the black Camaro you can run naturally aspirated small block won't win you the whole thing but I bet you'll have a bunch of fun
I’ve got something similar to the sb2 got it off my friend it’s a Dave Vickers/ prolline 4.5 bore space small block with twins and yes they run between 95 and 10thousound rpm
Friend, we all take the beauty around us. We live every day for granted. Most of the time you don't relize it until you leave for a week or two for vacation and get back home. Then your like I'm glad to be home it's beautiful and we take it for granted in the everyday grind of life. Your definitely onto something cool here and sharing with other gear heads.
ANNEALING METAL after your done with your repair "do not forget to flame anneal" you have to take out the work hardness,[normal wear and tear] and the welding hardness from all the heat, or it will crack again. We take our cars in after every season and have the entire chassis annealed. I have some chassis that are 20 years plus still racing, of coarse 4130 there is no substitute for overall workability. Just a thought.
I saw that done watching one of the old Chopper shows, Indian Larry. They built a chrome tube slingshot chassis and then went along and flame treated each joint---an old school way of doing it. Is that way still valid, or is their another way, or with with today's TIG welding machine technology is annealing even necessary, I mean, is there a way to set up a modern TIG (pulse, etc. to self-anneal? I'm wondering what other pro-level chassis shops do now---and I am curious about the annual process you mentioned to take in a chassis after the season.
Remember when you kept bending and breaking wheelie bars? The load path moves as things are made stronger. You'll repair this and load path will start working on the next weak point. Getting the rear geometry and travel in the working window is critical.
We used to call that “Chasing failures up and down the drivetrain”. Watching Bailey and Morris over the past two years, I’d add “…and each cycle thru that drivetrain costs a LOT more than the previous time!”
1.0!!!! The car you know inside out. For your foot to feel, what was mint a while ago. Your smile will be huge to enjoy 1.0. Ya hamper is a word, holds cloths. 😉
Your original car is your favourite ( don’t wreck it but ). Black Camaro, if light enough ? should do 8’s ? a friend of mine had the mopar equivalent of that nascar engine , ran 8.8 with a glide on methanol @2800lbs. How ever they sound fantastic and they are super reliable with dry sump . Plus you won’t have work like dog to keep it all running …. Heads off at 1 am midweek sux 🏀’s.
Late 90’s ford f250/350 7.5 diesel trans cooler!! Not sure why more people don’t use it. It’s skinny for more airflow to other parts, but it has a huge surface area to cool the trans. Daily driving mine in Florida summer, if I get over 140° I’m freaking out!! Turbo Tahoe 6klbs with a 3200 stall. Yeah it’s not all what you have, but I use to have like 190-200° temps with the “big” after market coolers
I have a question for you Tom. Are you by chance originally from Pennsylvania because I went to school with a guy named Tom Bailey? If you are that Tom Bailey I think it's great that you have all you do and help all the people that you help. I'm sure you worked your butt off to get where you are and my hat is off to you man for getting to where you are now. Take the black 69 in honor of the man who built the car. That would be awesome!!
Hi- Hope you add some vertical support to spread the stress above the 4 link brackets this time. Must be a lot of stress when planting tire. One weak link at a time to get to the goal.
Firstly, it’s a nice problem to have - which race car to take if a replacement is required. I’m reading a lot of positive comments about the black sb2 and rightly so with it’s backstory. However, it’s never been run and you’ll know better than most about heading into drag week with so many unknowns. I’m sure you’d love to avoid a headache week if you can! Your smile when you talk of 1.0 says it all really. The fallback king! Otherwise Robs seems a great option from what you’ve described. That’s my 2 pence worth from 🇬🇧 Whichever choice you make I hope you have a fantastic time 😎🤙
Big shock! It’s always worse than you thought. Darn it! MAN!! Would you normally send it back to the chassis shop and have them redo it? Or at this point is it time to think about another chassis? I’m glad he saw it. Mark
Chassis was built by Skinny Kid Racecars who is out of business but guess where Bob came from..... Never any warranty on racecar stuff, it's always on the edge of reliability versus weight so wear and tear is going to happen. Metal fatigue is real. This car was built about 8 years ago if I remember right. It's an antique in the current system of upgrading and replacing every couple of years.
@@kolejohnson73- I agree it’s time for a new chassis. Too much fatigue going on. Fixing this damage will just lead to the chassis finding the next weakest point.
Black 69 Camaro. I think it’d be a good thing for yourself and many others. As Harry Haig RIP our Drag Racing friend said “Have more fun than anyone else”.!!!! Make it happen Tom. It’s up to you. Support from 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
I see everyone recommending that you take the black Camaro to Drag Week. While it would be cool that car is totally untested/unproven for a long Drag and Drive so the chances of it finishing the event don’t appear to be very good. I say take 1.0 as it’s your favorite car and is totally proven which is what you need this close to the event.
Please Please Tom, in everything holy at least take the SB2 black Camaro out for a drive and let everyone{mainly me} hear what that engine sounds like{ I have} as most people have never heard one in a street type car.I am a Chrysler guy but that engine facinates me.I am looking at doing a P5 P6 P7 dodge version of the same Nascar engine.
Pride is earned, not bought. There is enough pride earned here that driving a "Yugo" (I drove one for six months with having to deal with the carberater icing-up like surface ice inside an old freezer), could not blemish the self pride. In the spirit of drag racing, put the 1962 Chevy 11 Gasser on the Drag Week Circuit.
While I’d like to see/hear the black Camaro go down the track, it’d require a lot of inspection & testing as y’all didn’t build it. 1.0 is my vote for consistency & reliability w/ short notice.
Hopefully I can get in on that one. I’ve tried to sign to sign up for sick week 3 times. I can just never get in on it before it fills up. I’ve done drag week 3 times and want a change.
Just looking at it, I am wondering should the 4 link bar mount points have an attach point at the bottom as well, that goes through the lowest point and ties it forward, just to keep it from pivoting and pulling on the top so much? Perhaps a link that connects that mount to the chassis which would push some of the force into the frame at a different point (and perhaps reduce deflection under full force?
The black Camaro is the obvious choice because you don't want to hurt the giveaway, the gasser can be a handful ask Finnegan about that. I'm meh about the Durango until you switch to the big boy Hemi and 1.0 is a treasured car.

SB2 69 Camaro all the way! The sound of an SB2 at full song gives me chills! That's my vote.
Black SB9 Camaro absolutely WITHOUT question.
The black Rally Sport. Take this one to remember those that have gone to an even better place...Paul Harrell just passed too....lots of the greatest people lately.
Black Camaro needs some love ❤️ she will run down the track with her old owner in the passenger seat 😊
Definitely that Black neglected beauty, but if you're unsure take 1.0
The black Camaro for sure and for certain! It would be a great tribute to the old owner.
Let's run the Black baddie!!! That car looks awesome and I personally would love to see what it could do.
Absolutely 💯 🏆❤️
Let’s hear that sb2 sing! 10,500rpm shifts would be baller! Black 69 RS all the way!
The black camero needs to be taken in memory of the guy who built it.
Black Camaro gets my vote.
Black Camaro or 1.0, that's my vote. It'd be neat to see you guys learn what the black Camaro can do, and then 1.0 is just ol' faithful
I vote for that black sb2 car. Would love to hear that thing screaming! But if your trying to win 1.0 would be ur best bet. But its not always about winning. Just go have fun man.
My 2 Cents Worth ?? I'd like to see the Black 69 Camaro at Drag Week.. BUT in the end.. It's your choice... Main thing?? You show up..
Just my two cents, but 1.0 is always my favorite. I've been watching you race for quite a long time and again, I enjoy watching 1.0
Best looking drag and drive car ever.
The Black Camaro seriously an old school Nascar motor (late 90's SB2). Please take it for many reasons honor the builder, just to hear the motor on the street. The car needs to run down the track, just do it for the adventure man.
Can’t go faster than 11.50 in the Talladega, take the Camaro!! Run the 8.50 class, and awesome Michigan road-trip, our state and great views.
Damn black SB2 camaro would be insane!
I bet those guys from Canada would be thrilled to have a Drag and Drive in Michigan!
Well, better get familiar with that black '69 Tom. 👌🏻

Yup.
Black Camaro for drive week 💯.
A MI drag & drive lined up with Woodword sounds epic af.
Brilliant
So glad you didn’t get launched into the wall or cash while it was that way! Welds were solid!! Sheered in a rough place to deal with for sure!
For competition sake I’d probably go with 1.0 but if I followed my heart I’d be letting that SB2 sing to 10k rpm and having a good ole time.
Take the black Camaro make some memories have a good time
I agree take the Black Camaro!!!!!!
Black camaro!!!! It needs to stretch outside.
Black camaro sounds good I think it's a great idea in memory of your friend

SB2 is GM's answer to the Yates SBF.
Run the black Camero, go fast if you can just have fun with the fans

now it will be the pivot Point for the bottom that rips out .
It looks like a lot of work to fix the chassis, but at least it was parked when Aiden discovered it was broken. That's the best possible scenario.

You could use solid EN24T in replacement of your cracked tubes. Believe me you will not break it

Love the videos! Need to see more of Bob!!!
Tom, 1.0 would be great, or the black Camaro....but we really want to see the 2.0 here in this part of the world, tell Bob to get busy
Thanks for the video Tom. I love the new cup holders in the car, nice additions!
1.0 is the ride for dragweek!!!

Hate to See it Broke , Glad you Found it before it got Ugly ! Guardian Angle looking over you ! Break it Fix it , build it better !
BLACK CAMARO tribute drive. Just go out and have fun in it. It deserves that.
The black beauty please!
Hey Tom TP1 or the Black Camaro bud good luck!
SB2 in memory of the guy who built it.. doesn't really matter what it runs as long as it runs
Awesome Stable and cars. Nic e to have such a cool place to keep nice stuff...well... nice . Black Camaro for me as well.
SB2 black 69 Camaro.

I know nothing about drag chassis but I wouldn't feel safe in that car. Time to retire it IMO.
