I’m a traditionalist when it comes to looks and form with stuff like this but if a wide screen like that is an improvement and game doesn’t sacrifice, it’s worth doing then. Looks good
Great job man! While I'm not a fan of the widescreen look, I can appreciate the effort, as I've built a Dragon's Lair, but it currently uses a 19" 4:3 flat panel COMPUTER monitor, and I built it right before the HD 16:9 widescreen revolution took over. I used a CRT originally 15 years ago, but I couldn't get it mounted properly, so after a few years, I installed a flat panel. I got all my building materials from the local hardware stores, my scoreboard I got from 'The Dragon's Lair Project' Jeff Kinder, when I visited him, and being an arcade tech for over 20 years, the parts weren't hard to come by. I run it with Daphne, who my other bubby from the the DLP site wrote. I have an original machine, which has yet to be restored
Thanks, I find it’s to be much more practical to have more than just one game playable. Especially when someone is going to take up as much space as these full sized cabinets do
That original art looked like graphics that were on lowrider trucks back in the day..that and the old slimwr paint jobs.. Cabinet looks great man.. good job
looks good. but the 6 button 3x3 layout is a no-no for that arcade. Oh, and the widescreen isn't good, but easily changed in settings , but I actually have a 16x10 monitor in my MK and love it. Gives a "widescreen" look without all the stretch.
Time to sell your awful Stranger Things pinball machine to make room for a REAL Turkey Hunting USA cabinet, lol 😂I love watching you turn trash into treasure. An absolutely beautiful cab that pays homage to one of the most nostalgic games of all time. Great work as always Doug!!
I dream of someday doing this, and the outer graphics on the arcade cabinet was my biggest challenge. Just going to build a computer running mame toss it in the cabinet, build the rest around it.
I'm not sure what more impressive the cab or that sega jacket lol both very nice 👍 I know all to well how much work goes into cab restorations i did a street Fighter 2 champion edition dynamo cab couple years ago and it took a bit to do, i built a Capcom Big Blue Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo cab last year i and that was a damn site easier to do than restoration of an old cab, some of those old cabs really are beaten up now, 30+ years old.
yeah, like I said, I wanted the machine to be more versatile for other games too since I'm likely selling it off. Since it isn't running the OG Jamma board inside, I didn't feel the need to be overtly authentic and stick to the dice pattern 5 button layout on this one.
Great project. Now you got me thinking about that monitor for my Street Fighter Alpha 2 Cabinet. I did a capkit on the monitor chassis and there is still a short somewhere on the board, I thought about sending it off to be repaired, but for what that monitor costs, I can just replace the CRT. I can also replace the CPS2 board with a pandora box or something. Just gotta take measurements to make sure the monitor is going to fit :)
@@cooltoy Will do :) I ordered a monitor. I'm in Canada so they didnt have the exact Model# but they had ASUS VY279HE 27” Eye Care Monitor, 1080P Full HD, 75Hz, IPS, 1ms, Adaptive-Sync/FreeSync. The cabinet had enough space to fit the monitor so I'll be good to go :)
Wow beautiful beautiful cab man! U always do an amazing job on these projects. When u said the whole job only ran u 600 my top hat blew off my head! Really nice hybrid cab. That original side art was really cool. I'd have been tempted to keep it on one if the sides lol, but naw u made the right choice lol.
@@cooltoy it's a DIY upgrade board you install right inside the control deck. I have the 2 player control deck from them and it takes me roughly 5 minutes to switch the joystick gates from 8-way to 4-way. The upgrade board adds direct input compatibility as well as the old X-Split.
Amazingly “Cool”. A nostalgic arcade cabinet for me. I would love to have this one with Johnny Cage on the side panels! Its only RIGHT to have MK1 in this very way! I have the Arcade1up MK and i love it but the graphics for MK2 isn’t my favorite on it.
In my opinion, I preferred the monitor to be square shape size with a 4:3 screen ratio. Retro games such as MK, SF2, and MvC2 looked better on 4:3. It doesn't look good on 16:9 screen stretched. It's good for those higher-end games such as USF4, KOFXIII, and MK9 because it's made for HD/LCD, but old retro games was built for crt with 4:3 fullscreen.
I just bought the super console x3 plus and set it up but I'm getting no sound at all, no sound during the menus and no sound during gameplay, I've tried both head phones and speakers, did you have any trouble with that when you set yours up?
I wish they would make 4:3 screens for arecade games I saw one with the widescreen at the wayback arcade the other day it kinda kills it cause the screen is so small
@@cooltoy Thanks. Nice build! Question though I’ve never tried it myself but I’ve always thought of sticking bezel art between two sheets of plexi. Not sure if you or anyone else has every tried it.
You would likely have to build something to hold the plexi in place as using two sheets on top of one another would be too thick to stay in the OEM place holder spots
Epic - and economical - build Cooltoy. I can't help but wonder how good that 28" square monitor you reviewed recently would look in there though. Seems like it would be perfect!

Sharp cab D, well done! Makes me wanna give it a shot. I personally like the craftsmanship aspect, just not the coding/mapping part. Great vid!
the custom mapping of each game is by far the worst part, time consuming and not at all fun

Hence why I mentioned the aspect ratio is easily changed in the menus. It does t have to be 16:9 is the player doesn’t want it
You can put a lcd 42inch in it, place it vertically ,adjust it and you wil have a screen image like the original cabinet
