Secondly. I'd like to suggest, would be better if you read your additional information in the background, instead of speaking in parallel.
Finally, I'd like to suggest a subject I think it's close in meaning to the subject "persuade", because persuading can be manipulating. It's about the adjective and noun: "self-serving". She is self-serving. He is a lier, he's only out for himself. She is a self-seeker, who is nice only to people who can do her favors.
In my opinion, a self-seeking person try to persuades us to get their goals.
