I refuse to believe that Fruit doesn’t have a keybind for the sound effect, because it was *SPOT ON* and sounds like it cut itself into the audio like a soundboard.
I guarantee that if Grayfruit had the rewind feature available when he was emula--- I mean playing this on a legitimate console, his stress levels would have been, at the very least, cut in half.
I just don’t understand what his deal is with sonic games. Like I get the hate for THIS game in particular, but like did sonic kill his dog or something??? Also why is he allergic to holding right?
1. Sonic has many issues, across all the games. It’s just a very inconsistent franchise. 2. Holding right doesn’t work when you need to do precise platforming with a physics system that doesn’t aid it
It's kind of sobering to realize that this is probably how most people view the Sonic series. Like I can understand and even run with the logic so far as recognizing that having more than one Sonic game nearly annihilate the series' existence is a genuine stain that will never be removed from its reputation, but to be so far removed from the series that you think that there was literal radio silence between 06 and Boom, or at least that there were no good games in between them, is appalling. Obviously memorizing the Sonic release schedule isn't mandatory for going on the internet, but spouting nonsense like that isn't only blatantly wrong, it continues hurting the series' reputation and increases the amount of hate the fans get for enjoying the games. I know grayfruit has been a little elitist with games in the past, but to say "Sonic fans need to accept that the entire series is garbage because Sonic 06 exists and I am unwilling to take criticism on my gameplay because all of the games are bad" is genuinely just really shitty of him.
I would argue that the series reputation is so bad because they never learned from the fundamental mistake that they made back with Sonic 06, that they need to actually finish making the games before releasing them. Every bad Sonic game has had that exact same problem and gets them harsh backlash yet it has never actually had a permanent impact on their development cycle. Even when a good game comes out, the only thing people can think from there is, "was this a fluke? is this how it's going to be from now on?" and it never has been. That is not a healthy way to think about a franchise. I should not be clinging on to hope, or celebrating that the next game in this incredibly lucrative series is going to be at least 'decent'. What's the point in acknowledging that they managed to make a couple good games in between the bad ones when they went right back to making bad ones after the fact? Clearly what they learned from making those good games had no impact on their design philosophy going forward, especially when they couldn't even make a remaster of Sonic Colours without somehow making the game worse. It's a whole lot more fair, in my opinion, to judge the series on the mistakes that they continue to make even to this day, rather than praise the series for the occasional time that they don't completely screw it up. I'd like to think that the approach to a series could be a little less binary than those two options, but if you're gonna pick one, the negative is far more appropriate than the positive.
@bandannadoo the thing is that the circumstances between 06 and Boom are so similar that you can pinpoint the exact reason why they both flopped. 06 was meant to be a complete series reinvention, or at least a defining image of Sonic in 3D, but then Sega refused to let them delay the game in any extent even when it became clear that they weren't able to make much headway with developing on next Gen hardware, then cut the dev team in half to make another rush job for the Wii when they realized 06 wouldn't be ported to it. With Boom, they outsourced that entirely since it was basically a licensed game, but then Sega kept refusing to let them make design and story changes they'd already made, and straight up lied to them about the console it would be on, so they had to compromise their work just to make it function as a Wii U exclusive and scale back the story to the boring slog it is now (that barely ties in to either the tv show or the 3DS games). In both cases, it comes back to Sega as to why there have been disasters of that scale in the series, and only recently have Sonic Team been able to ask for and receive delays in development to put out an actually good game, or at least not a third disaster (I wouldn't call Colors Ultimate that just because as a remaster that got mostly patched, it's more just a product of the modern game cycle). Sonic Team since their inception have shown that they care a lot about their games and are able to produce really good ones themselves when they have the time for it. Of course games like Shadow and Lost World were bad, but they were misguided more than anything, any series can have cases like that. My logic for the moment is that it's only in cases of severe mismanagement from Sega that truly horrible games will come out, and for what it's worth, I do have hope we won't see anything like those games again now that we have the precedent of delays being financially viable and good for the quality of the game. If they do somehow fuck another game up on the scale of 06 and Boom, but with the concessions Sega is willing to make for them, then I will gladly spend my money and time on some other series. For now, I remain optimistic, although I can see why more skeptical fans and outside onlookers alike would have given up on the series after Forces. I do hope they make that choice with the knowledge that those games were basically products of bureaucratic implosion, rather than assuming both games had all the time and money in the world just to fail anyway.
@@maxwellpaynewell5305 Considering that actual interviews come out of most recent Sonic games about the game design decisions the team were making throughout the project there's obviously a level of passion going into it. I wouldn't say I trust Sega themselves but some people seem to act like Sonic Team are some sort of infinite monkey theorem-esque situation where they're just pressing keys and making decisions at complete random. It's just a lot easier for people to blame the guys who made the game rather than the guys who tell the guys who made the game what to do. The industry is still so young so there are a lot of rash assumptions made that make out every bad game to be made by a bunch of idiots. More than I want a truly amazing Sonic game, I want a Sonic that when I see have a new announcement I can confidently assume that it'll be good rather than having to cross my fingers and dream. Hopefully that can happen one day, and unless they make a true Sonic 06 2 level of bad then I'm gonna hold out hope for that.
