    Kathy Bates rightfully won the Academy Award. However, I love Julia Roberts. I liked her in "Pretty Woman," "My Best Friend's Wedding," "Sleeping with the Enemy," "Mona Lisa Smile," "Something to Talk About," "Notting Hill," "Stepmom," "Secret in Their Eyes," and "Erin Brockovich." Julia deserved and won the Oscar for "Erin Brockovich." I also thought she deserved the Oscar for "Secret in Their Eyes." When she finds out that her teenager daughter has been murdered, she let out a horrifying scream that made me shiver. I think her husband, Danny Moder, filmed that scene.

    i don't see "pretty woman" as an acting stretch for julia roberts. when it's natural and easy it doesn't scream "oscars" and i saw her, not her character.
    oscars should be reserved for actors/actresses who have the knack to get the audience lost in the character they play and not the actor.

    • @mtngrl5859
      @mtngrl5859 3 місяці тому +5

      Many actors who won Academy Awards wouldn't have won under you criteria. Many years ago the actor Spencer Tracy observed the only fair way to give an Academy Award was if the actors all played the same role, then each actor could be rated against the competition. The point is that an individual actor is only one element in a successful film. If a film has a brilliant script, than the actor has the benefit of great material to work with. Film is essentially a collaborative media.
      Katherine Hepburn was acknowledged to be a highly talented actress and received 3 Academy Awards. However, Katherine rarely ventured far from a certain personality. Same could be said for Sophia Loren and Cary Grant.

    There's nothing about the way Julia Roberts looks or acts that seems Portuguese American. I don't mean Brazilian American that speak Portuguese I mean Portuguese American.
    The way she was miscast really spoiled the movie for me, because when improbable things happen to a character in a movie it's kind of not interesting unless the character is probable.

    Leave the world behind, that's what my eternal friend used to say, and in a similar way I explained to myself my unjustified aversion to the one I once loved so much. I remember one day we were walking through the Notting Hill district in the province of New Hope, she had such long auburn hair at that time. high gloss with slightly curled ends, always carefully trimmed, they gave the impression that they had never had the dubious pleasure of being neglected, dense like Chekhov's cherry orchard with the happiness that was to accompany her every day in which she had a significant share, she was carrying our child, it was an additional advantage of her existence beyond consciousness, however, for me and the surroundings she was always the same Erin Brockovich with a slightly Balkan trait in her not only name but also character, she coped perfectly with adversities and his jealous missiles, she was a born warrior, she had it written on her face, if someone he was able to read it except me, she had no one, she got a ticket to paradise with the possibility of returning here to earth, to these meadows smelling of spring flowers, and as far as I know, this Pretty Woman was returning from home. She welcomed this world with Beauty, and one day she said Eat, pray, love, it sounded like another motto of a man at another turning point in life, and then with an impassive face she added: My boyfriend is getting married and I don't blame him, wishing him the happiness that I strive for every day, feeling like an eternal runaway bride. who, having never known true love, caresses with life like melancholy with sadness intertwined, this elite of depression with a minor mood, with a background resembling the already devalued black in the company of white, this inseparable companion of opposing feelings of sadness and joy, which is me Wonderful boy in her eyes I was an emanation and an embodiment when I saw her for the first time I saw that subtle Mona Lisa Smile and she was like Snow White to me and I was a little elf, her eternal servant. We have never been closer to each other than at that time marked by the conflagration of war and separation. when the Steel Magnolias began to develop for good, I thought to myself in the secret of my mind, which, becoming a pillar of imagination and its support, strengthening the whole, whispered It's too early to die, my friend, after all, there is still a line of life ahead of us, full of surprises, and its love game will have no end.... ............

    Didn't she essentially drive her sister to suicide? And didn't she steal someone else's husband? And use and then discard her brother?

    • @AJLinthe5D
      @AJLinthe5D 23 дні тому

      Yes. As for her sister, Julia actually stood to do the eulogy at the funeral and said that it was a good thing that she k**led herself because she was unhappy (because of all of the maltreatment from Julia) and took hold of her depression by ending her life. The people in attendance were aghast. Julia would call her a fat loser because she was a dog groomer or trainer and was overweight.

    Julia is s great actress, with a superb career. And, yet a lost soul in the most important things in life, love/care and her own true happiness. The need is amazing grace in His forgiveness and friendship. praying the best for her and for all, thanks.

    I love so many of Hollywood’s actresses, but Julia Robert’s is a FAVE. Only Kathy Bates could win an award over her, and I’m sure she humbly agreed.
    Whoever Ms. Roberts’ wardrobe people were in each movie, they did her proud!
    And it was wonderful to see her with heroine extraordinaire Erin Brockovitch, as
    water is life, and so abused by the men God gave dominion over all the earth to.
    Fantastic documentary about a wonderful actress, with wonderful extra tidbits, and zero Hollywood vile stuff.

    Unfortunately, Julia Roberts was a tough individual and even Steven Spielberg recognized who she was due to her habitual mean disposition of causing problems during filming "Hook" which later Steven mentioned he would not hire Julia Roberts again due to her high type of difficulties which he never wants to go through that again with her again.

    Julia has the kind of exuberance that you acquire from running with stray dogs as a child because if they can’t teach you how to have a good belly laugh, no matter who’s watching, who can?
    Not only does her star power remind me of Audrey Hepburn, but also of Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz. They really took the world by storm. ❤

      Eric Roberts was a rising star in the early 80s, seen to have great potential as an actor, as well as being arrestingly good looking (before the car crash which left his face damaged and had to be repaired with plastic surgery).
      Roberts was the lead in "King of the Gypsies" - which also starred Susan Sarandon, who would later become friends with Julia and star with her in a film. Go check out photos of him from that film!
      Eric Roberts had a major role in the film "Raggedy Man", opposite star Sissy Spacek. I remember watching it on TV as a kid and thinking Eric was a really good looking guy. This was before any of Julia's films, back in the mid-80s.
      Eric co-starred in "The Pope of Greenwich Village" alongside another then-rising star, Mickey Rourke, and Daryl Hannah, in the early 80s. Both actors were being spoken of as future major stars and talented actors.
      I remember when the film "Runaway Train" was released in the mid-80s, maybe 1986? Eric was the co-star to Jon Voight, and got great reviews for his acting, as did Voight. It was Voight who was nominated for an Academy Award, although he didn't win. Voight took his young daughter Angelina Jolie with him to the awards ceremony. You can even see her sitting next to him when they read out his name. Eric also attended and I think he brought Julia along. I've seen several photos of Julia with Voight, dressed in his Oscars outfit.
      "Runaway Train" wasn't a big success though, aside from the nomination for Voight and some good reviews. And it didn't seem to help Eric's career as I would have expected, even though Eric's acting was praised. It might have been Eric's reputation for being difficult to work with, and his alcohol and drug issues, that affected his career.

    If you are forced to play a character that is barefoot and the performers feet have cuts on then, yes he made the right and adult choice to help her with her feet. That's what a real man is and does. It's about your character, your personal choices, the values, ethics, morals and respect was demonstrated by the act of her feet being cared for. It could have been worse. I'm glad the right choice was made for her for this character she portrayed in this movie. Thank you. 🙏 30:45
