Tarja is a very talented singer and deserves all due respect, but it is Floor's voice that stirs my soul. She's the Queen in my book

We also have to remember that there are many years in between these performances. Tarja was just 25 or something when hers was recorded. It's a shame we didn't get to see her do these songs live for another 10 years. 😅 I like Tarja and Floor both but Tarja brings the emotions and feels. I prefer the old progressive Nightwish (Century Child is my favorite album) and Tarja's voice is what made me love it so much. Floor is probably the only one who can actually sing any of Tarja era songs respectfully and she fits to their new production perfectly. However, my heart goes to Tarja every time I hear an old Nightwish song. ❤
There is n t "better". It s different singers in different eras. I prefer Tarja as an old fan from the beginning of the band....

Forget the comparison with the singers - to be honest some of the comments I read are so childish. But, what about the band - they are playing the same song live, at least 7 years apart and they are playing it exactly the same! How many bands can do that?

Someone once said (IIRC) that Tarja sang at you, Annette sung to you, but Floor sings for you. I kinda agree with that.
I couldn't see the thumbnail; but Nightwish x LOTR sounds like the fan video of "Walking in the Air" (a Nightwish cover song w/Tarja singing) that was edited over footage from The Hobbit. It was my first exposure to Nightwish back in the day (2015ish), being recommended by UA-cam after I listened to Celtic Woman's version of the same song. My head exploded and I dropped into the rabbit hole of symphonic metal.
They both amazing ❤ I can’t deside between them, so I listen both 😅. But there are some songs I like better whit Tarja, like Whismaster and Kinslayer and Siren and some others. Tarja has some darkness in her voice that makes a certain strong and mystical sound to a song.
It is the vocal style. Tarja's amazing vocals are darker and more operatic. Floor is much more capable of belting when the song requires it. Adding a heavier element to Nightwish music. IMHO
I hope you do the Wacken 2013 version . This is not for me. I give you a like for Floors part.

Some of these mash ups are a little confusing. The singer doesn't always match the voice that you are hearing.

Wacken is so overrated, it’s been like a mantra for all Floorfans..
Tarja has a much smoother fuller sound, and you hear the pauses that she puts in giving it a more dramatic effect. Floor is the rock version and Tarja the classical version and I prefer Tarja on this one.
Yeah... too bad she can only sing with an operatic voice... Floor is so much more versatile .. can sing anything and let's not forget that Floor's English is perfect .. while listening to Tarja you need the lyrics next to it, to understand what she is singing .. Man.... her English is soooooooo bad !!!!!!!

Tarja and Floor has actually done 'Over the hills and far away' as a duet.
But the Nightwish version with all their personal fotos are far better.

Unfortunately not the best mash-up - but it has given you a taste of Tarja's style. There are songs written for Tarja that Floor has never sung, and songs written for Floor that Tarja has never sung - and some both have sung. There is no competition - enjoy all Nightwish's songs regardless of the singer. I became aware of Nightwish with Floor as the vocalist, but it hasn't stopped me listening to and appreciating Tarja's output. For me, the thread that ties all of Nightwish's music together is Tuomas and Emppu - everything else is woven around those two.

A few things. This song is amazing. The editing is fantastic. Im a Floor fan as i just found Nightwish a few years ago. But Because of this vid ive given Tarja a chance and shes very good. But Floor's voice has a power that Tarja cant match.

What is this stuff? After the craze of judging who is better between Tarja and Floor, all we needed was the fake duets! Whoever prepared this "duet" does not have the slightest respect for the art of both singers. I still think that those who need to judge who is better or which song can win a singing competition don't actually understand what music is. You may prefer Tarja or Floor, but it's always a matter of taste. Personally I like some songs better sung by Floor, others I prefer sung by Tarja, but for others it could be different. What is certain for me is that a mix like this in this clip is simply absurd

I love them both. They are such a good singers. Floor's English is pretty much perfect. Tarja had a more heavier accent when she sang in NW. Nowadays, her accent isn’t as thick as it used to be.
Also what this mash up doesn’t show, is that Tarja actually walks off the stage after the last chorus and she doesn’t do the last aah's.
There is an actual live performance with Tarja and Floor. Around the time when Floor joined NW, Tarja invited her to sing Over the Hills and Far Away in one of Tarja's solo shows. It was kinda their way of showing everyone that there is no bad blood between them and that they are friends.

Floor's diction is definitely better, you can barely understand what Tarja says, especially in the early albums. Strong Finish accent.
About your comments that "it should be the other way around"... I don't see how you make that judgement lol... maybe it's because I was a Tarja Fan from 2000 until she left, saw her live multiple times with the band, while at the same time enjoying Floor on After Forever... so to me they were always who they were. I could never switch voices. My brain instantly associates it to the singer.
Century Child was the first Nightwish album I bought, and this song was the first I heard in that album. Absolutely a favorite, with any of them. They both have a place in my heart.
It’s very hard to compare when the production quality is so superior over Tarja’s version. Plus, I like singing, not screaming.
Tarja was already awesome back in 2005, but has continued making music after leaving Nightwish. And her voice has improved a lot in that time. So please consider reacting to some of her solo music.

🤗🍒🤘🏻It's nice, but it all depends on the sound, how it was recorded, the hardness and the purity, you can't distinguish that in this piece, but if it is individual and at the same hardness is being tapped!!!!😉But Floor is more the Power house and that is my opinion ! And whatever others say, they were both recorded and edited in a different way,so you can't compare it!! Although everyone has their preference!!

Meh. I'm not into splicing these voices together. It's frustrating because their voices are so different. Floor Wacken is ultimate listening though, hands down.

When I listen to this I remember why I got tired of NW when Tarja was the singer. The constant opera voice of her cracks my ears. And also her terrible English. Floor is truly the best singer of NW and in my opinion best of all times.
Me pasa al revés deje de escuchar a Nightwish desde el 2012 no soporto el chillido y grito de Floor muchas veces menos es más y los gritos deberían estar de acuerdo a la canción no puedes gritar ni gruñir en baladas de Nightwish detesto a Floor cuando destruye las baladas de Nightwish igual me pasa con las canciones de amor y tristeza no da para gruñidos Slaying the Dreams es horrible en la voz de Floor no canta gritaaaa y contamina el oído musical en cambio Tarja me transporta hasta llegar al clímax me tiene hasta mojada del éxtasis y no lo pienso discutir con nadie y menos con fans recientes de la banda 😒

Like you said, you don’t have to discuss it but you still comment. I guess you mourns Tarja and her departure from NW. But from the beginning it was her decision to leave which she told the band in December 2004. Than she was officially kicked by the band 2005. But she would have left anyway. And you still almost 20 years later continue to attack the current members of the band?
NW have a truly committed fanbase which follows the band and go to their concerts (4 times for me last world tour) and you are obviously not one of them.

It’s up to everyone how you feel about a specific singer but I guess you now you’re quite lonely about thinking Floor destroyed GLS. What I don’t understand is how you can be crying 20 year after Tarja left. Go on whit your life, enjoy Tarjas solo career. That’s fine by me. But some people ( maybe you, I don’t know) still keep attacking the current set of NW instead of just enjoying the music you like and in this case obviously it is Tarja.
And you now Tarja won’t come back to NW. Tuomas said it himself, if Floor leaves the band NW is over.
And I must say that the best and most enjoyable singers to listen to is the ones that are versatile and can adjust the voice after what the song needs like Bruce Dickinson, Floor Jansen and others. You can’t say Tarja can do that.
