This video finaly made me realize why out of all the Thomas characters from my childhood, I recalled The Scottish Single herself more vividly than anyone else, with the runner up being Edward. Due to the hit era being, well overall as dumbed down and crap as it is, along with some other personal reasons and finding Thomas himself, the face of the show, to be kinda insufferable, I ended up hating the show and my memoires of it for many, many years. Except from Emily. It was mainly her season 7 depiction that spoke to me, but also in some ways her hit era self as well. To me Emily is the mother of the steam team, just one who trends towards tough love, along with being witty, a bit bossy, and taking exactly zero shit from anyone. I actuly dropped off from the show right as the CGI series started, so I never knew she FINALY got her number 12, and im really glad she did. However I do agree with it looking off, and I know exactly why, its the coloring. The brighter of the two colors doesn't match her gold lining, meaning it messes with her overall theme, if it was changed to match it would look perfect.
One thing about Emily that’s always kind of bothered me, Her basis could easily hit 80-90 MPH with a string of coaches. However, most of the time, the show has her moving at barely 30 mph.
I really love Emily. I was introduced to her when I was in high school. She became a role model for me when I was in my final year of high school. Even through college she was someone for me to look up to. Her personality throughout Series 7 was something I loved about her. Because she was someone who cared about her friends and always stood up for those who were upset and hurt. She was kind, caring and always wanted to help. When Series 8 came along, I was amazed at the new side we saw on her. Her bossy attitude was new to me and I wasn't sure what to think. Her impatience did work in a way, because we do get some characters who don't like waiting around, even for too long. It works for Emily, as her bossy and impatient sides help to build a part of her that says 'no one messes with me'. She's not a pushover, and I think that is what HiT were going for. The CGI era of Emily was, in my opinion, a mixture of both her Classic and HiT personalities. Mixing the two works as you have half of one and half of the other. You have her kind, caring and helpful side and her impatient, bossy side on the other. I was sad when Emily didn't get many episodes further into the show. I couldn't understand why Emily wasn't featured in as much as the other engines. They could have looked at her old personalities in the previous seasons. Then used her antics in the old stories to help make her new ones. That way, she would be more included and she wouldn't be left out so much in the new episodes. It was good that she got to interact with engines like Caitlin, Whiff, Murdoch, Trevor, Duck, Donald, Douglas, Philip, Harvey and more. But if they had sent her to the Wharf or the Blue Mountain Quarry, then she could have had some sort of friendships to develop with the narrow gauge engines. I'm not sure which era of Emily is my favourite, I was just happy that she got to appear in the episodes. What makes me sad about the lack of Emily is that they didn't think to try and include her more when they had the chance. The BWBA era was a sad point for Emily as she didn't get a single episode and she didn't appear or speak much. She became some sort of a background character in the Steam Team. She was the leading lady in the team and I think she could have been someone for Nia and Rebecca to look up to when they arrived. But I loved how she was included more in the final series. Getting her number was a surprise and we got to see her rewarded with a new job and role on Sodor. She could have been a stand by engine for the Sodor Search and Rescue Centre. I will always love Emily, no matter what era I'm watching. As long as she got to appear and show her stuff, then I'm happy that she is still a leading lady no matter what 😊.
8:57 This had a clip of Thomas, Emily & the Snowplough is played while You’re in Love, Charlie Brown (1967) is played on the bottom right corner. I feel like that Emily in the HiT Era had her Lucy Persona from Peanuts is bizarre and interesting at the same time for me.
Awesome vid. I thin m the Unlucky Tug would be impressed. I love Emily to, as she and Mavis are tied for my favorite female engine, and I agree, she is quite a polarizing character, but I wish she was treated better. As for my favorite…the S7 Emily. I never liked the HIT Era Emily at all, the CGI Emily I don’t think was all that better. The S7 version was just so sweet, kind, gentle, but shy and timid as she started out. It just adds so much warmth to the series. In fact, the Emily in my series is that specific version, but expanded on. Great vid man
As bad as the whole "Emily replaced Duck" fiasco was, it had more ground to stand on than the drama with Edward, Henry, Nia and Rebecca. As when Emily became a mainstay, Duck just up and vanished without a trace, and wasn't seen again for four years.
At least we got to know emily before she was a main character. Duck was already sidelined in seasons 5 and 6. He didn't have anything significant to do, so to blame and hate emily for his treatment is dumb. The situation with Edward and Henry being replaced by nia and rebecca is rightfully warranted because Edward and Henry are 2 out of 3 legacy characters that kicked off the railway series which is the basis for the tv series since 1984. Replacing 2 legacy characters with two randos that we didn't have much time to get to know (who didn't have any character to them to begin with) for brownie points is more understandable to be angry at than getting angry over duck being "replaced" by emily.
@@supergenesisstation1991 Ever since S8, nobody had any clue how to use Edward and Henry. So much so that they degraded them down to flanderised versions just so they had a reason to be there: - Edward was always "I'm too old to be really useful". - Henry was back to needing special coal. Even the S17-20 writers struggled with them too. To which they opted to have them be secondary characters, so they could include them when they wanted to, rather than cause they had to.
Honestly I initially thought she replaced Duck as well, but at the same time I still wanted to see more of her character. However looking back I see that she actually saved Duck from being made out of character. Ironic since in her episode she saved one Great Western engine in one form and another just by creation alone, which actually falls in line with her character.
@@DaveMan1K I feel like Brenner era Edward was doing better than Henry, only the odd really out of character moment, other than that he was himself just a tad more whimsical. Maybe this is why Edward seemed to hold on a bit better in BWBA, still getting speaking roles or little moments of importance. He actually gets an episode with Nia, Hunt the Truck, which downplayed the feel that she had replaced him. Like Duck, it felt like he could have co-existed with their newer counterpart if the writers held on to him.
The main thing I remember about Emily is her dynamic with James. In the Brenner Era, shes always the one to tell him off when he makes fun of someone, so she fires back for them.
She’s my favorite character so far (in her early season anyway). Partly because her personality somehow matches my fiancé (and my mom to some extent). Her caring and compassion is pretty unmatched in her earlier season. I also like her basis, for me, the Stirling Single is the most elegant class of locomotives ever put on rails. Kinda shame that the creator made her in a wrong way when they took her in different directions during HiT era and CGI. I mean, really, if they really wanted to put a flaws into her, they could have took the ideas from real basis such as poor braking power, oscillating at high speed, lack of traction, etc. which effects her confidence.
I loved emily ever since i was a willtle little baby she was always my favourite i was a hit era baby and her unique look and sassy charector just was perfection
Emily’s personality from over the years: Series 7: Kind, caring, compassionate, sweet, nice, friendly, mature, and sensitive to the feelings of others. Series 8-12: Cranky, bossy, rebellious, rude, mean, and fussy to others. Series 13-24(cgi): Reverted back to when she was originally introduced from the 7th series of her debut along with shades of overconfidence.
I think, if you combine all of Emily's personalities together, including her HiT model era persona, she's more like Peppermint Patty. If anything, Daisy is more like Lucy.
She shares my name and I grew up with her debut onwards. Always been a personal favourite. Also had her wooden railway model and used to play with those for hours. Very nostalgic.
Regardless of Emily’s bizarre journey, I will stand by the fact she’s an easy S tier character design, just absolutely genius that even as a kid I recognized why she was designed that way.
I have to say though, Emily's personality in Season 7 and 17 onward are my favorites, however; that doesn't mean her HiT era self is out of place. I imagine her as a kind and gentle woman/Engine, but with some attitude..
I like to think series 7 Emily was not long after she got there, and hit Era Emily is a few years down the line after she found out they are just a bunch of sods and became more blunt about what she's saying to get them to listen
I think the main reason people hate Emily Saves the World is because it feels quite Sharon Miller/Up Up and Away ish. A giant globe on 1 flatbed tied down with a single rope, of course that is not gonna end well. The chase is pretty stupid tbh but so is Thomas and the Jet Engine and that’s a good episode. It’s an alright and I especially like the title
Excellent character analysis video! It's really hard to pick which portrayal of Emily I prefer. I do like her in her own starring roles like New Coaches, What's the Matter w/ Henry?, Stormy Tale, New Route, Halloween, Chickens to School, Emily's Rubbish, No Snow, Saves the World and Best Engine Ever. But I'm gonna have to go forth with Classic Emily because she is such a sweetheart that makes me wish they stuck with that character for the remainder of the show. HiT and later CGI Series Emily just doesn't seem good to me. Also, even though I'm not a fan of Emily's Best Friend, I have to agree that it could've worked better as a HiT era episode to give Emily more development when she moved to Tidmouth Sheds in the newly-formed Steam Team. One thing that could've possibly bring another flaw into Emily is the fact that since the actual Stirling Singles are prone to wheelslip due to their large driving wheels, this would've made better potential. The official sources of Emily claim that her big wheels make her fast, though it is most inaccurate considering most flaws are based on real events and locomotive incidents in performance.
I've always looked at Emily's Adventure as her trying to get to Farmer McColls for the lambs/sheep. Her motherly nature is aimed towards the Animals that need the barn roof fixing. She knows the longer it takes her, the longer the barn will be unusable by the sheep/lambs. So she's being bossy but it's still coming from a Place of love/caring. Also I agree with the Emily's best friend criticisms. Even if they paired Rebecca and Nia together and James and Gordon, it would have felt more natural to me. But at least we got to see her with Henry and Edward and oddly Marion.
I was a child fan, got nostalgic 2 years ago May as I type this and it won't go away. I'm on the autism spectrum, which is a factor in my childhood love for TTTE
Looking back on "Emily's Best Friend," it was a missed opportunity for her to interact with Oliver. I mean, she saved Oliver on her first day and yet - far as I can recall - they never interacted again. Would've made for some nice continuity by having them together again. Definitely a dynamic worth exploring.
Emily being basically removed in the CG era was due to some 'diversity' need. Sad as that is to say. Part of the issue with the character at that time, is Emily's character is basically white. She's presented as being Scottish, and as a result of that, it was perceived that the entire main 'steam team' were all white characters. To counter this, they removed her and introduced Nia, the Kenyan locomotive. Ironically, this did them no favors, as even supporters of her inclusion noted that she was extremely problematic herself. For one, she was 'stereotypical' African, and didn't really stand out in any one way. What's more, they noted that it didn't make sense to remove an existing and established female character like Emily, only to insert another one. There was even some argument that Nia and Emily could have made an interesting duo. With Emily's motherly and established nature providing a perfect foil to Nia's experiences on Sodor, and in dealing with all the male characters. Ironically enough, it's the lack of Emily, and the forced feeling nature of Nia that has made her (nia) so hated. Very late edit to note: One other aspect of Nia that makes her one of the more disliked characters, is a more technical aspect that I didn't include with the first post of this some months back. Nia is a narrow gauge engine. Specifically, she's a "cape gauge" locomotive. So roughly 42 inches. This also caused some issues with the character, as many felt that including her was harkening back to the UK's problematic colonial period. In fact, in Kenya, where she originated from, that gauge was more properly called "Colonial Gauge", as it reflected the British colonizers who built railroads in Africa, as opposed to "cape gauge" which originated (name wise) with South Africa.
I agree with you 100%, especially cause of her taking Toby’s role, this annoying deep voice by Jules De Jough, saying other characters’ names more than they say hers, and her annoying whistle in the Brenner era
Great Job! You really make a show of her involvement in the series. It feels a little like the Unlucky Tug, but also so original. The only issues I have are that in the first few minutes, you sounded a little to close to the microphone, and I don't appreciate swearing. but other than that, you did a really good job.
It kinda makes sense that Emily acts like a mother in the classic era since she is one of the oldest engine on the island, being made at around 1870-1895
It was a mixture of series 6 and CGI (certain episodes) Emily, she just had such strong introduction, that even I couldn’t express. Because I mostly followed the HIT era one but then after growing up and learning about her, I think I would say HIT era and Series 6 Emily be the best, because she prove to everyone she wasn’t just some bitch you can make fun of or brush away.
I'll be honest she is like a big sister to Thomas and don't judge me but i Ship her and Henry. The only back breaker i had her she took Annie and clarrabelle but forgiven since it was her first episode
Great video mate 👏👏👏👏 Emily is my favourite non-Awdry character & I like her friendship with Henry (Favourite Awdry character). I prefer CGI Emily because it shows her more alive & I like her Scottish voice.
i like hit era emily. plus in as good as gordon & emily's adventure, she was a jerk because she was given a job where she believed being nice would get her nowhere.
OK who the hell also hates hit for stopping with motherly figure emily and also...i think Donald and Douglas were simping for Emily in Emily in the middle
I'm gonna be real honest, emily is definitely getting overhated nowadays, besides even when some of her flaws, she is still quite a good character during the seventh season, and some parts of the brenner area from cgi, so in my case, emily is quite decent and unique character to say the least in my point of view. yet again the only exceptions i would have from the Brenner cgi area would be her cgi whistle, along with a few episodes that were from the brenner. so yeah, you got some good points and facts of Emily the Stirling Emerald Engine. :)
Did anyone else notice that in the later CGI series episodes Emily's CGI model was given rivets, bolts and handrails along with rest of the steam team for some unknown reason?.
After watching the video it gives me a different perspective on Emily, I might check out the episodes for myself to give my opinion on her. Probably not important but for best engine ever I switched Emily and Caitlin roles but this says otherwise
I’d have to go with a mix of classic and HIT emily, strong and flawed but caring at the end of the day (I’d switch out some of her stories for other ones)
JasperPie's version of Emily's character in his comic stories is an amalgamation of her previously personality traits - caring, sisterly, sassy, and not taking any garbage from anyone from both Season 7 and HIT era. What do you think?
The only thing that bothers me about her number 12 is how ugly it is. It's just a generic font, and it doesn't really fit on her tender. Perhaps a curvier font (perhaps on an actual numberplate?), and definitely on her cab.
Hit Era Emily ❤

I was laughing my face off at 16:26 "I am queen today, I will tell you what to do." PERCY WAS WORRIED" Hahaha!
8:57 This had a clip of Thomas, Emily & the Snowplough is played while You’re in Love, Charlie Brown (1967) is played on the bottom right corner. I feel like that Emily in the HiT Era had her Lucy Persona from Peanuts is bizarre and interesting at the same time for me.
mine is a mix of og and hit era, she just has that sort of sass in hit era and then her motherly in the og era, the mix of those two works perfectly
@@supergenesisstation1991
Ever since S8, nobody had any clue how to use Edward and Henry. So much so that they degraded them down to flanderised versions just so they had a reason to be there:
- Edward was always "I'm too old to be really useful".
- Henry was back to needing special coal.
Even the S17-20 writers struggled with them too. To which they opted to have them be secondary characters, so they could include them when they wanted to, rather than cause they had to.
@@supergenesisstation1991 their hate isn't warranted at all and that plenty of character
Emily was the best thing to come out of Season 7. And she continues to be one of my favorites no matter the era.
anyone else pair her with Edward? just me? okay just if Emily is the mum, it makes sense Edward is the dad
I pair her with Henry or James pmao
The main thing I remember about Emily is her dynamic with James. In the Brenner Era, shes always the one to tell him off when he makes fun of someone, so she fires back for them.
The more I get older the more I ADORE Emily, an absolute favourite character of my childhood.
Funny thing, when I was a kid I had a crush on Emily lol, but she really is an amazing character and it's sad that she's hated by a lot of people
She’s my favorite character so far (in her early season anyway).
Emily’s personality from over the years:
Series 7: Kind, caring, compassionate, sweet, nice, friendly, mature, and sensitive to the feelings of others.
Emily was weirdly my first childhood crush when I was 6/7 and she still was one of my favorite engines ❤
...
Thomas was developed kinder, but went in between that and his cocky, mischievous ways in the Brenner era
I do like Emily from Series 7, Emily's New Route and Series 17-21.
I have to say though, Emily's personality in Season 7 and 17 onward are my favorites, however; that doesn't mean her HiT era self is out of place. I imagine her as a kind and gentle woman/Engine, but with some attitude..
Emily actually is my favourite character in the entire series
From Hero of the Rails onwards, Emily seemed to revert back to her original personality from the seventh series.

1:47 once you notice it, you can never unnotice it. I certainly can’t
Emily's Hit Era flaws might have been better received if they'd been worked into her personality bit by bit, rather than simply dumped in all at once.
8:58 Thomas as Charlie Brown and Emily as Lucy? That makes too much sense!
Headcannon: Emily is not one of the original sterling singles, but a replica, like stephen's roket, prince of wheals, Tornado
*Series 7
Tbh, the third picture of Emily making a face made me cackle
I'll be honest she is like a big sister to Thomas and don't judge me but i Ship her and Henry. The only back breaker i had her she took Annie and clarrabelle but forgiven since it was her first episode
30:09 she’s called a sterling single, because she is single.
Great video mate 👏👏👏👏 Emily is my favourite non-Awdry character & I like her friendship with Henry (Favourite Awdry character). I prefer CGI Emily because it shows her more alive & I like her Scottish voice.
4:00 what about Edward?
2:38 The only standard gauge 18th-century engine we got was Edward
My favorite is Hit Era Emily
Request: You should do the same thing with Rosie next
I found this video entertaining and fun to watch
Wait, this isn't a Sodor's Finest video...but it sure as hell feels like one. Good job, mate.
I always thought her design was completely original when I was little
When I was little I used to see Emily as kid of a big sister to Thomas, I have no idea if this still holds up it’s been so long now
i like hit era emily. plus in as good as gordon & emily's adventure, she was a jerk because she was given a job where she believed being nice would get her nowhere.

are you hearing this, Disney? MORE ENCANTO CONTENT!!!!!!! Hint! Hint!
7:41 There was Toby that they could have replaced.
18:23 isn't Harvey from season 6 or am I stupid
My favorite female engine 🥰
I’d have to go with a mix of classic and HIT emily, strong and flawed but caring at the end of the day (I’d switch out some of her stories for other ones)

Emily - "I am queen today. I'll tell you what to do"
PERCY WAS WORRIED ---> SMASH BANG WHOLLOP
😂🤣😂🤣😂
JasperPie's version of Emily's character in his comic stories is an amalgamation of her previously personality traits - caring, sisterly, sassy, and not taking any garbage from anyone from both Season 7 and HIT era. What do you think?
The only thing that bothers me about her number 12 is how ugly it is. It's just a generic font, and it doesn't really fit on her tender. Perhaps a curvier font (perhaps on an actual numberplate?), and definitely on her cab.
what if the classic emily stands up for judy and to chief bogo and said him wait a jerk and sound off like a mother like from series 7.
4:00 maybe thats why theyre married in Victor Tanzig's Stories of Sodor
True, Emily Is Bossy, But My God, She's So Cruelly Hated.
My favourite Emily is the CGI era
I don't mind what they did with Emily in the HiT-Era, because it gave her leads.
Emily from Thomas and friends reminds me of Misty from Pokemon
The way Emily is portrayed in AEG is pretty neat
This has to be about the only positive thing anyone has ever said about AEG
