      Angel Guenchev is critically underrated. Cut from 75 to 67.5 and nailed the heaviest 3xBW clean and jerk.
      Also had some femurs on him, crazy positions in the first pull.

    I have a reason to believe that Shi Zhiyong's 2021 Olympic final weight selection has everything to do with Liao Hui's previous world records: 166/198. Liao Hui did it in 2 separate occasions, but Shi was living in Liao's shadow for a couple years, and he needed to prove himself by doing that in one event. I still see people commenting that Shi is not as good as Liao because Liao did it in a lower weight category. I mean I still believe that, until Shi pulls out an equivalent Sinclair in the future years.

    Everyone has their guy that caught their attention to bring them into Weight lifting. He was the one for me. I think some of it had to do with the fact that he was at a certain amount of notability at a Time that I was first having direct exposure to social media‘s and Othersize comparable to myself.
    Obviously I know now that there are a ton of absolute houses at his weight class and the one above, but he was just the stand out at the right place and right time

    Liao Hui's split jerk technique is phenomenal. His leg positions are diagonal and thus create a very large and stable supporting base. (Of course it depends on individuals cuz some folks find it not very comfortable). I personally wouldn't call his knee movements a double dip, more like a pre-dip dip thing. I think that's perfectly acceptable, and Liao trains very hard and SMART based on the rules e.g. tons of push press and front-rack hold training, which are honed to his special techniques. I'd dream to see him as a 77kg compete with prime 77kg Lu or even as a 69kg just in terms of sinclairs, given that they give their best shots. It's a shame that they tended to give up their 3rd attempts in competitions in the good old days. I think Lu will take the snatch and Liao will take the c&j. Politics really messed up Liao's career, what a shame.

      Just asking out of curiosity, what was the political barrier that kept Liao hui from progressing. I’m just assuming it’s the fact that he got popped that stopped him?

    • @ws2013
      @ws2013 Рік тому +1

      @@andrewkim2804 It was probably the other way round. Someone tricked him such that he got popped. He was popped with boldenone, a drug mainly used in bodybuilding. We don't know whether it was false positive because he was tested negative the same day in the other test. It makes no sense for a weightlifting athlete to take boldenone because it makes an athlete very hard to control bodyweight, and the strength gain is also minimal. Maybe someone contaminated his food with boldenone or maybe other possibilities. On top of that he was not selected to go to Rio despite his win against Shi Zhiyong at China's selection competition. Not saying that he's clean but sth political was probably going on.

      @@andrewkim2804 Actually many Chinese professional weightlifters including Shi have a poor or rural background, so I doubt he has some connections with "real politics." I don't think there is tension between Liao and Shi personally either. My speculation is that Shi's former coach Zhan Xugang had some influence in the Chinese team cuz he was a two-time Olympic champion. Zhan and Shi also came from the same provincial team, but yeah that's just my speculation though...

    I sent you guys an email with a blogpost from his training (allegedly) from 2013. Liao Hui's training seems to differ a lot from other Chinese athletes in that he does pressing (mostly Push press, some BTN stuff) very frequently. Sometimes as often as 4x a week depending on the period of training.

    I posted about this as a reply on the short you posted a few days ago but the rumor I was told was that Liao was caught for boldenone at the time because he took something that was contaminated with boldenone under the orders of someone higher-up in the Chinese government who had some sort of connection to the weightlifting team, if my memory serves me right it was a general interestingly enough. From what I remember it had to do with conflict between the different 'groups' within the Chinese weightlifting team which I believe you could previously denote from the colour singlets they used to wear at comps, I also think this links to the different athletes within the Chinese team who train/compete under the PL but someone who follows the Chinese team more closely and is active on Chinese social media can correct me on this.
    There is also likely some more information on this supposed rumor on a forum thread or two if someone went digging as I have read about it elsewhere too. I came across one of these posts a while back as I was highly curious with the number of male international and nationally competing Chinese weightlifters who looked like several young bodybuilders I've seen who are in the early stages of juicing, whilst at the same time seeming to easily pass doping tests without a noticeable decrease in performance or physique 'aesthetics' most athletes suffer from who have to cycle off compounds well in advance.
    So far I haven't found anything concrete on their methods despite talking to several people who I'd consider of being in 'the know', aside from hearing several possible scenarios such as gene doping, political/financial power, designer compounds, the ability to pass the epitestosterone ratio test because of the UGT2B17 gene present in many East Asians, and finally traditional chinese medicine (yes really). I have found a photo from what I would guess is a decade ago in which you see both Lu and Liao, and where they're hilariously downsized as if they're off-cycle for once. Also from being highly active in the bodybuilding and powerlifting scene in recent years and seeing what many people's 'stack's' are, as well as my own experience with different compounds, if they were using your everyday AAS most of them look to me as if they're running low test with low dosages of dianabol or turinabol (or a similar oral testosterone derivative). They lack the vascularity and collagen changes you get with most DHT-based compounds, most of them don't seem to exhibit significant androgenic changes you'd see with someone whos highly abused a compound like testosterone (or higher dosages of other AAS), and they seem to always maintain a high intramusclular retention look you hardly ever see from lower dosages of Testosterone alone, outside of some individuals who are almost always of West African descent. I'd also say HGH or a growth hormone releasing peptide is almost given, especially since their female lifters were popped for GHRP-2 several years ago.

    • @trtnec
      @trtnec 2 роки тому +3

      "they seem to always maintain a high intramuscular retention which you almost always see from West African descent". You have to keep in mind, being 60-85kg with a shredded look is very possible naturally (not saying they are natural). I think you're conflating shredded, jacked, NFL players who weigh 95kg plus with these Chinese lifters who are a fraction of the mass, but just look huge when lifting in isolation around other people of similar size. You don't see any weightlifters, Chinese or not, shredded at mid-90s and greater except Lesman from Colombia.

    What about the incorporation of complexes in training? So, for example doing three reps of very heavy snatch deadlift, followed by dropping the weight to 100-110% of snatch 1rm and doing a few explosive pulls there?

    • @matthewmckee6289
