Blur has a "sequel", called *Blur Overdrive* for Mobiles back in 2014, and Split/Second had a Flash game on the ESPN website of all things. The closest "real" Split/Second we'll have is Ridge Racer Unbounded, but instead of "shells" it's "power stars". ModNation Racers also has a similar mechanic to S/S, but it's a Kart Racer first.
Why? Disney Interactive had lost $800 MILLION by that point. It's not like they had much choice in the matter by that point. Plus with the pivot to mobile instead of console/PC all their studios were on the chopping block.
Plus the fact it competed against *4 popular games at the same week of its release* (including Blur), and 2010 was a banger for racing (Gran Turismo 5, Modnation Racers, Hot Pursuit 2010, etc.), Split/Second had no chance...
Phenomenal video! Its criminal how poorly this game did sales wise, its such a gem. Sadly, in recent time most of the racing game market is flooded with sim racers, with arcade racers forced to the backseat. I hope that someday there will be a resurgence for arcade racers.
I still can't believe more people didn't play this game. It was a blast to play and I actually got all 1000 gamerscore on it. I played it so much. Total fail by the gaming community. I could only imagine how amazing a sequel would've been. It could've been next level kind of stuff.

I'm back again to watch this video, and i have to admit, I'm sad no one really touches on the visual representation of progression in this game through decals. Each Sticker on the vehicle marks an accomplishment, both on and offline. My favorite is giant slayer, winning a race as the lowest rated racer in a lobby. Gives me goosebumps every time.

It had been in the back of my mind since I saw the commercial for it back in 2010, and when I finally got it 6 years later (finally got that 360 set up), you COULD NOT peel me away from it. I even got to beat it twice thanks to my Xbox wiping all my save files for no reason (still won't forgive it for however it did that)! I've played a lot of racing games in my lifetime, but none were as spectacular, as explosive, as thrilling to the max as Split/Second.
Loved the concept, loved the music, loved the graphics… But the difficulty killed this game for me. Still wish someone makes an spiritual successor of Split/Second someday.
Yeah, the AI for this game after episode 3 or so, just kills the fun factor after awhile. I mean don't get me wrong the entire game is a blast all the way through, but the AI learning from how you play and how much you win, it gets way to aggressive and ruins it to some degree. Also, sorry for being a year late on this one lol

Wish more people were into these games because they were phenomenal! Both Pure and Split Second were getting sequels when the studio shut down, which is a bummer I still haven’t gotten over to this day. If I ever get the money, you can bet I’ll be buying the rights and creating the sequels myself lmao
