My father was born and raised in Italy, also on a farm. After my parents moved to the U.S., he always had a garden full of zucchini, bell peppers, Italian herbs, tomatoes, string beans, artichokes, even a grape arbor with wine grapes that he would harvest to make his own wine. He also made his own Italian-style sausage - I’ve never been able to buy anything quite as good in any store. He had an accent just like Mama Gina’s. I miss the fresh food he and my mom both cooked up, things like stuffed artichoke, bacalao, cardoon, hand-tossed pizzas, hundreds of different pasta dishes, fresh marinara and all types of tomato sauces, all made with produce from his own garden. Sadly, I was not born with the gift or ability for cooking, but I am eager to give Mama Gina’s recipes a try, she makes it seem so easy and I love listening to her. Thank you for these posts! my mother passed away when I was 11, she didn't have time to learn me the ways of cooking, your giving back to me what was lost. She was Italian and dad was Irish. thank you
I am a new subscriber. Gina, please pass this on to Grandma. I never had grandparents, they were all gone when I was little and I am in my mid 60's now. I am half Polish and half Irish. My Aunt from Poland met my Uncle during WW II and she came her to USA. She was my Godmother and always treated me as my Grandmother. She spoke broken English like your Grandma and Grandma reminds me of her so much. She always made me Polish foods that I still long for today. What you are doing by capturing her will be so important to your future generations. Thank you Grandma for making me remember of my childhood and thank you for all you did for your family all those years. I now have my first granddaughter and I hope to pass on many things from Grandpa to her as she gets older. Thanks you Grandma! Great videos.

Dearest Gina: I made your soup today. So delicious! My Dad was 100% Italian, his folks from Gallo, Italy. As first generation American, he flew B-17's in WWII out of North Africa over southern Italy at the age of 20, during the opening days of the war. It killed him that he was dropping bombs on his family, his cousins. He miraculously survived the war. The four of us kids (his children) were raised Italian American. He taught me how to bone a chicken. I never met his mother, my grandmother, but I am sure you are very much how she was. She did not speak English, only Italian. She would speak to him in Italian and he would answer her in English. She placed garlic cloves around his neck when he went to school to protect him from the flu! I love your videos. I feel like I know you. God bless you and your family.
I'm sorry for this comment Sandra, but in those days they used the garlic necklaces to prevent children from getting worms, or fighting worms if you already had them, not the flu.
@@destiny3423 what is the point of this pedantry? Were you there? Do you know the grandmother's motivation? Even if you're right, why nitpick? Sit down...
@@destiny3423 so again, I ask, do you know the grandmother's motivation? You might have used it for one purpose, but I suspect that's not the only reason they were worn...
americanfolklore.net/folklore/2010/10/garlic_superstitions_folklore.html If you scroll down about halfway, you will see that the article states, "During the early 20th century [Italians] sent their children to school wearing necklaces made of cloves of garlic to prevent them from catching colds." I couldn't find anything, anywhere about worms.

Made this soup last night. It was sooo good! My husband told me again today how much he liked it! I can't imagine anyone not liking it. Nice way to use my garden zuchinni. Thank you Gina!
Everything about her reminds me of my Italian family growing up in Brooklyn; we had a small yard, but there were always tomatoes, basil & zucchini growing & a fig tree. I don't remember my grandfather ever using pesticides, just soapy water to keep the bugs away. I'm so glad I found Grandma's page; brings back happy memories (and tonight I'm making Zucchini Soup!) :)
Growing up I lived next to an Italian extended family. The grandmother's name was Mrs. Bernardo. Never knew her first name. She and Mr. Bernardo had a big garden behind their garage which was next to our yard. I would be playing in my yard and she would be speaking Italian to Mr. Bernardo while they worked in the garden. She would reach over the chain link fence and hand me tomatoes and cukes, and zucchinis and peppers and in her lovely Italian accent she would speak English to me and say, ''Bring them in to your mama.'' I'm pretty sure she was the one responsible for that little Irish girl's love of gardening and Italian food. Your mama is una donna bella!

And this is why I made sure I always had Italian Friends when I was growing up. Their Grandmothers always cooked and they made me stay for Dinner
I had to smile reading your comment. Growing up, my Mom use to feed half of our neighborhood. As adults my friends still talk how much they loved coming over to eat. Its always nice to hear😁
😃
Grandma Gina is a treasure! She has a beautiful garden and creates beautiful food.
I know this is from last year but just wanted you all to know that I made this and it was DELICIOUS!!!!! I added the egg and cheese and suggest others do too. This recipe is a zucchini keeper. Thanks Gina and Family!
We missed you Gina! So good to have you back, glad your son-in-law is well.
I love grandma. My husband passed away 2yrs. ago and I have too much lonely time on my hands. After seeing grandmas beautiful garden, it has inspired me to get back to gardening next spring. Thank you for the delicious looking recipe and the boost I needed to get back to doing something that I once loved. God bless you grandma.
She really inspired you with her cooking.lovely food.
Mrs. Gina is a WONDERFUL person. For those who thumbs down, its because you did not try this delicious soup OR it's because you tried to make it without love in it, so you did not succeed like Mrs. Gina. She is the greatest !
I just love seeing her garden. She is a gem.god bless you Gina.
Thank you Gina! I just adore you. Thank You for your gifts you share with us.
Your the best grandma anyone could be lucky enough to have, I was blessed when I discovered your videos, Thanks with love
Thanks so much
Not only is her food good, but she makes you feel like you are a neighbor on a visit or one of her lucky grandchildren being loved and learning her recipes at the same time. God bless you Grandma Gina from Grandma Tina.
my mother passed away when I was 11, she didn't have time to learn me the ways of cooking, your giving back to me what was lost. She was Italian and dad was Irish. thank you
❤
Just made this soup. It was so good. I grew the vegetables and herbs in my garden!
Good for you. I'm making it now. Smells soooooo good. And I am totally inspired to grow vegies in my flowerbeds.
Awesome Janet good to hear, I was wondering if her using water versus broth would be suffice and apparently from what you say it was. 💛🤗✌️
So did I! Delicioso
@@joanneflaherty at ah, "deliziosa"! 😉
Wow, that must be been more delicious! 😋
Eh, this Italian cooking... 😜
I would like to adopt this lady to be my Grannie.
Virginia Hoffman Nope i want her!!😍😘Love Gina !
Me too

You're like a breath of fresh air! Thank you for sharing the recipes and memories. God bless you!
Gina, during this crazy time of quarantine, you have been such a breath of fresh air ! My wife and I like to enjoy a cup of coffee and watch at least one of your videos, every morning. So far, every dish we’ve been inspired to make has been loved by my family ! Thank you for sharing you’re time and talents. May God continue to bless you and your family !
I am 100% Italian, all grandparents from Southern Italy. I am 70 yrs old now.
Watching her makes me home sick for my family who are now passed away.
My FAVOURITE cooking show EVER EVER. I could watch you Gina ALL day. With Love from Ireland
The 2 fat ladies from England is my favourite show for cooking.
I feel the same way, when I first found Grama Gina I binged watched Grama for hours and days...😁
You cook exactly like my grandparents. It is so comforting to watch you cook. It brings back so many memories. Thank you for sharing with us. Blessings to you💕
What a joy to watch her! She truly is grateful for her life and being in this country! Her family must be so proud of her🇧🇬😍
I absolutely adore Grandma Gina. She is blessed and a blessing to all.
Dear Gina,
I have to stop in the middle of eating my soup to tell you that it is molto delizioso!! My husband came home from work today with a backache and the soup is making it feel better---and that is the truth!
Love from your fans in Connecticut
This looks so delicious! Thank you Gina. You are just the cutest, sweetest nonna. I could watch you all day.
I know I comment on every single video and I apologize but I just totally adore everything about Gina. I need her to just adopt me. I am definitely trying these recipes. What wonderful memories she makes for her family. I just love her and have never met her.
Gina's recipes are the only ones I actually watch AND TRY. I made this soup - so simple - so good- you could taste the health in the soup! I make this often now. Thank you Gina.
Same!
Could hardly understand her. And, could I possibly be let in on how long to cook the soup? Not ...and it is done.
She had me at the garden and then the actual cooking, but when she started singing I got tingly all over.
I enjoy these videos so much that I find myself going back to some of my favorites again & again...Besides her legendary, authentic cooking skills, talking so lovingly about her family, & her beautiful singing & prayers, I simply l o v e Nonni Gina's sweet joie de vivre & how she so genuinely 'connects' with her viewers...What a precious woman she is...
Fantastic and beautiful flowers and vegetable garden! Love your videos, Grandma Gina!
I love to follow you, Grandma Gina ❤️😘🇩🇰
TY I AM 70 AND LOVE THIS LADY WILL MAKE THIS SOUP TY U MADE ME SMILE
Her video came up in my recommendations. This woman is precious to say the least! What an outstanding
human being full of goodness all around. Ma'am, I could squeeze you. I definitely will be making this soup!
HI MISS GINA, I AM 69 LOST MY MOM YEARS AGO SHE LIVED TILL 86 AND I MISS HER... IF I COULD I WOULD GIVE YOU A DAILY HUG...MUCH ❤ TO YOU!
Yes reminds me of years with my Nonni. She was a fabulous cook, just like Gina. Caring for the simplicity in life and family. Wish she was here and I could enjoy her wonderful food today. Thank you Gina for bringing back memories I cherish.
Sit down...
@@PDXGregor Was I there? Not just was I there, i used wear those garlic neckless.
Pedantry? I don't think so!
My veges grow with my flowers too, as did my Italian Grandfather Vittorio from Sondrio. He would sing when he was cooking and in the garden. Thank you for sharing you life with us Gina, you are a lovely lady. God bless you.
Oh my gosh I just love this lady so much! I subscribed and I am gonna make her Zucchini soup tomorrow! She’s so happy and always working! Love your round the house garden! You rock!
Gina you make me so happy just watching you. My husband always says when he comes in from work if you put out another video. He knows you make me so happy. To me you are family. God's blessing to you and yours.
Such a beautiful labor of love with flowers and vegetables.
Thanks so much, sweet Gina for sharing your yard and recipe!!
I absolutely love to watch Grandma Gina cook. She is one of the cleanest cooks on UA-cam. I made this soup today and it is delicious. I even added the egg and cheese. I also purchased her cookbook. God bless Grandma Gina & my family loves you.
MagiGoddess. In back of a brownstone, there is usually a big yard. I lived a similar experience to what you have related.
Sad to see it go.
This lady is amazing! All those people that hit thumbs down are just jealous!
This is the first Nonna Gina’s video I have watched 😍 what a beautiful, sweet lady! I look forward to more of your videos! There is nothing like good home cooked traditional meals, and all made from your own garden!! Impressive!! God Bless you Nonna Gina!!

Gina my dear friend. Like you don't have enough to do inside the home. You are a regular farmer outside the house you are truly blessed. I really appreciate you and all your videos.

I just love her! I feel like I am with my family again. I always used egg & cheese in soups I made for my family - couldn't afford meat, but could eggs, and it was delicious. So simple but perfect - thank you Gina!
What every young girl needs is a grandmother like Gina to spend time with learning how to cook and learning home economics.
Your house is so clean! Even your garden is neat and tidy!
Our nation went down hill when it quit teaching home ec.
Love love love your videos!
This lady is so adorable I can't even stand it! I want to hang out with her all of the time. It was touching when she was suddenly overwhelmed by memories brought on by the soup. "This is my life..." 🌼 💗

“I put 1 tablespoon of pecorino (cheese)”

Growing up in South Jersey surrounded by Italian heritage, my friends, their mothers and grandmoms, best food ever, especially at Easter and Christmas, everyone had tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, eggplant, onions, garlic, herbs. This video and this lovely grandmom brings it back again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, hugs and kisses. David.

You are so very italien and so spécial.thank you so much.reminds me of my french upbringing in souhwest France.we are not that different.my mother going to the garden at 7 am to pick up her green beans(french green beans have to .be picked up early)with the dog and cat along.i line everything italien.
Back in the day people knew how to grow a garden. Now not so much.
I love these videos. I find it so comforting to watch her cook and the sound of her voice, her broken English is so charming. I love how she often says things twice or even thrice, and how she refers to her husband and father-in-law; how endearing she is. She also seems to have genuine love for humanity. Thank you for sharing these videos.
One of a kind in the whole world !🎶🥰Singing Bella Mamma Gina 💐
Everyone should have a Grandma like Grandma Gina ! 🇺🇸❤️🇮🇹
I'm pretty sure she's an Angel from Heaven, just here to inspire us all....:)
This is why I love and watch Gina. Her care and excitement for her natural ingredients and the sincere humble love she puts into all her food. Gina my family and I love you mucho, mucho besos...
That’s a lot of work, Grandma Gina....I have a garden too, and it sure is a lot of work! Good for you! Bene! The same work ethic as my Grandma and Grandpa....always keep busy!
Bless her heart, that lady is absolutely adorable.
Every day with Gina is a beautiful day :)
My parents who are 81, and 84 years, also Italian watch her most of the day; so excited to see her house! Hugs from Toronto, Canada!
That is exactly how my grandmother talked and cooked before she passed away. Such delicious food. Now my wife has replaced her and is just as good a cook.
I am so impressed Grabdma Gina with your Italian dishes. You have inspired me so much. I am coping with this covid-19 as we all are. I pray you and your family is doing good. Loved your garden!
Thank you Grandma Gina for your gorgeous Eggplant Parmigana recipe I made this and my husband simply loved it of course I told him that it was your dish and he says gracious!.....God bless love from Irelande.
It’s “ grazie” in Italian - “thank you”
margaret hanley Many of first and second generation are a mixture of Italian/Irish since so many of the immigrant around the early 1900s were from those two countries. American born, Italian and Irish ancestry!
Ciao, dolce nonna, mille grazie! Tu sei un tesoro! Il tuo giardino è bellissimo. 💕🇮🇹
This is the first video I've seen of you and I can't wait to make this soup with the zucchini from my garden. 🥰
Beautiful yard. Reminds me of my Italian grandmother's yard. She had
Zinnias and roses all around her house, just like that. My grandfather
planted them, because she liked them. They had fruit trees and a fenced
in garden in the back yard. My grandfather's work shop was back there. I used to watch him skin deer back there. He also raised rabbits. They used every square inch of their yard, just like you. It must be an Italian thing.
I just recently discovered her videos and I feel in love with her art . she is a treasure. I am learning tons of recipes of delicious italian cousine.
God Bless her !! . Love when she sings in italian, as she cooks her delicious recipes she is chaming and spontaneous . I am a fan . Gina ti vogliamo benne!! . Long live Gina !!! She is our gradma too thanks to the magic of youtube. !! A fan from Tampa Florida !
This is amazing! I have alot of zucchini from the garden and soup is one of my fsvorite! Thank you Nonna Gina!
Wow, what a beautiful garden! That takes so much hard work. 👏👏👏👏👏
La Grippe Muerte . You wish.... lol
Having a garden is not "work", it is pure recreation for those of us who do it.
Keith Kuckler good for you.
Yes, a garden is work...but I don't think of it as hard work. That happens when you have to haul in the dirt prior to getting it started! I do love the way she has used the house to trap the heat for her garden to thrive! I wish I could have done that, but I chose raised beds & spent more $ than I needed to!
@@lagrippemuerte3852 what a horible person you are.
