When we sold our childhood home (after my parents had passed) I sent a Christmas card to that address and told the new owners how much fun it was to grow up in the house. I described our family working to landscape it and make it our own. I wished them well and hoped that their memories of the house would be a wonderful as ours were. Did it again as my own family moved to another state. Kind of fun to think of them reading their Christmas card from old owners.
I was blessed to find the family of the woman my house was built for. They have shared some wonderful pictures of my 1911/1935 house. And now I know why the addition in 1935.

Thanks for giving me positive feelings that couples can work together and be in love, along the way. You thank us for watching, but its a privilege that you have let us in, inspires me, even at 76 years old.

I think that's one if the most stressful things. You're exhausted from the moving process already, only to find you have to clean up someone else's grime before you can relax or cook or *anything!*
@@isobelsmith6999 luckily I had a couple of months before we actually moved in. I treated it like a job. Every day I'd pack my lunch etc, and paint the inside walls. My shoulders took a few months to recover from that. I had the kitchen removed and a new one built and installed. All the really gross stuff (rangehood, stove) were gone. My new kitchen was actually installed on the same day the removalist brought our possessions. We had chipboard counter tops for a while till my new ones arrived. We’ve moved house a few times, to different towns in the state, and to sell houses. Kudos to Melissa for Christmas light cord control. We find it so much easier to take a rectangle of firm cardboard and just wrap the lights around it. They are fairly flat that way and are easy to unwrap for "future Melissa."
Love the coastal colors and decorations. As long as the paint is clean it would be a waste to repaint. Happy 2022, Lord knows how many hours you've kept me company this year.
During the cold brutal weather conditions, good time to do things indoors. Your days getting the home ready to sell should make time go fast and closer to moving day. Looks great. So happy for you.
I hate moving, so I've stayed in my trailer for 17 years, and I hope I don't have to move ever again. But in the 4 years before we moved here we moved three times and I still haven't recovered. Up until then I'd moved or been moved, ten times, and I did take a few things out to my mom's for two years while I cared for her. Now I'm hoping to do a bunch of renovation and that's going to be almost like moving. If only taking stuff from one room to another
Awesome! Great teamwork you guys! So nostalgic that you're going to leave your home of 18 years! But, we're excited that you all are building your dream home and for the new memories you will create! Thanks for bringing us along! 🤗
You have dealt with hoarder houses on a tight deadline several times, and your house may only have a few items you don't want to take with you. It's so organized already because "past Melissa" thought of "future Melissa" more than once! Great lesson for us all! I was a single Mom for many years and I must have moved 40-50 times in my lifetime. Learned that work deferred causes way more stress and work later, and I now organize everything automatically. My kitchen, pantry, bathrooms and closets look like a store so I can "shop" for what I need. Happy New Year!
Wonderful job. So respectful of people you don't even know . . . I've personally never moved into a house that I didn't have to do the patchup when I got to move in. Good luck with this major project . . . Moving into your new home!!!!
The new house will have room for GRANDKIDS in the future!! As someone who was so darned lucky to have my grandparents in my life, they meant so much to me, and I'd spend as much time at my grandparents houses as I could get away with. Those are the future memories yet to come.
Hey you two and Chewy, thanks for having us in your home. That pantry came out beautifully. I cant even imagine your home being on the market for very much time. Thank you for being such wonderful stewards of a home . xoxoxo
Dear Alex and Melissa. And kids the universe and the Stars will line up exactly according to what is going to be in your future for your new home and to sell your existing home. My prayers for you and your family may the Lord continue to bless you today and always you guys are our Sunshine of Ray into everyone's life you bring joy and happiness. Excited to see how the yellow van will be coming along in your upcoming blogs. From sunny Southern California.
I'm sure you'll have no problem selling your house, it looks so beautiful and well kept. I can't wait to see the new house after you move in and decorate it!
Melissa you did an amazing job in the pantry and the kitchen/dining area. My whole kitchen is only three times the size of your pantry, so good use of space is everything. And Alex: You do not need feeling guilty. It's your shop, the auctions and your youtube activity, that generate the money that is needed to get and decorate a beautiful family home.
This is too funny to see what everyone calls them. Please put your location to see what areas call it which way. I moved around a lot so I've used Heel, Crust & Ends but I have never called them Stumps but I like it.
I was in the Navy for 12yrs, came from a Navy family. We moved so darned much, I knew when I left the military I was going to put my roots down and never move again! I was pretty good at packing out when I transferred duty stations, but my mother was a MACHINE!! Plus 5 kids to deal with, 4 girls with more crapola than anyone can imagine (like do your really need more than 100 different eyeshadows and shampoos, etc...?). My mom could pack out 5 kids, a dog and at least 2 cats in a matter of just over a week. Everyone had their space assigned to clean, and my mother was a drill sergeant, if you were up till 3am cleaning, so be it! And she organized it on her own, as dad was usually already gone and securing the new digs and working.
It looks great! I have to say the sadness of leaving a house you raised your family in is rough. Allow yourself time to process. We cried on the final day of cleaning in our home we lived in for 14 years.
My Townhouse kitchen is tiny but I have a pantry about that size and it is astonishing what one can fit into it. I do have the whole corner as well and not a column like yours. Bathrooms and kitchens are the rooms that sell a house. That colour is really nice and it does make food look good so good choice. Looking good Melissa and it is satisfying when the work is done
Three thoughts: 1) I want to go completely tidy the kitchen. 2) I now want a pantry. 3) I can’t wait to see your home picture ready. It’s already super bright and welcoming.
Alexander and Melissa are such wonderful role models of a successful married couple. Their genuine respect and support for each other is heart warming.😊🥂or🍻👍💖
I did this once.... Only about 5 years after moving into my new home, and I was so stunned by the massive volume of K cupboard contents I took a picture.
Looks great! Melissa, you should consider getting a big container for your huge bag of flour to store it in. You will thank yourself for it later and save your flour from pest that seem to appear, even if you don’t have any pest anywhere else. If flour isn’t sealed in air tight containers, they mysteriously get these little tiny bugs in them. I learned my lesson many years back. After tossing out a large bag of flour I started putting my fresh flour in Rubbermaid container or I vacuum seal it until I’m read to use and then put in air tight container. Hoping all the best for you all in 2022! Happy New Year!
I agree about the pantry. I had an 80's kitchen with a useless built in broom cabinet that I scrubbed out, painted and installed shelves in and every walk thru people opened it and said, OH, a pantry, that's nice!
I love the pantry paint, it’s the right thing to do. I would have used it! Good luck on your sale (you won’t need it) and then your wonderful move. All of your subscribers are very excited for you!
Your painting of the panty..has me thinking of repainting my pantry. I hope to sell my old home this Spring..so I'd better get my paint clothes on & get going! I just adore your dog, Chewy! He reminds me of a dog we adopted : Mickey....love those shaggy dogs!
A blessed and happy New Year to you and your beautiful family. As you move from your home to your forever home, may the memories of the last 18 years become blessings.
moving is always an adventure. Being born and raised in the service we did it every 2 years....but a big thing to remember at your new place is to have a secure, covered run for your little dog outside. Preferably with access via a doggy door so he can come and go as he pleases but within sight of a window.
The ending to this video really shows what a lovely couple you, Alex and Melissa, are. Things are really coming along for you. Thank you for great content in all of your videos. Always the very best to you both.
Really liked the organizational skills in the pantry. Great idea to separate areas the way you did Melissa. You gave me ideas for my own kitchen. Thanks!
The kitchen looks great, good luck with the sale. I have sold three homes and making them look great is always a good idea. I have been in some homes, when looking for a new place, that were a disaster. You just know if they can not clean it up to sell then you are going to be buying a mess. That sometimes worked out in my favour as I got a big discount for cleaning and renovating and then it was done to my taste. You have a beautifully “staged” home for a sale as well, very clean and simple.
My SIL used 'eggshell' to paint the main parts of her house. It's the first time I've asked anyone what colour they have painted their walls. It was so impressive. It's modern, warm, goes with other colours and heaps better than the awful, drab, cream colour. White is always lovely too. Thanks for the idea with the lazy susan.
My Norwegian grandfather used to say schlamozzal to me everytimes I did something wrong Then a big hug and kiss with an I live you. Dont have a clue when or where he heard that saying. But uch a warm feeling hearing Alex say it. Happy New Year to the whole family.
No one will say how nice a fresh the pantry looks. But they would certainly say something if you hadn't repainted and fixed the walls! I was really upset when my parents sold the house I grew up in and moved 800 miles away. But the first time I visited, i discovered that though it was a different house, it was the same home. 30 years later we sold most everything including the house to move my mom in with us. Seasons change.
I use a piece of rectangular wood, and wind the lights around it, wrap them in newspaper , and plastic, keeps them very dry, and u can plug them in, and check they still work year before unwind them , I do the same as mellissa, put all the decorations, in box's, and mark the area they are for,, like sitting room fireplace, rad cover in hall etc etc etc, makes decorating next time easier and faster, best of luck in your new home
Excellent job Alex and Melissa, I am excited for you and your new home. There is plenty of time before you move though and with the meat of the winter on it's way, that'll give you ample opportunity to go through the harder more cluttered areas like basements, attics, back closets...etc.
It is exciting to see the preparations and refreshing your present home for future owners. Can’t wait to see the BIG MOVE to your new home. I’m sure it is bittersweet for all your family, but so exciting to think of the new adventures you will have in your new house & acreage! Thanks for sharing the adventure with us!
Memories are in your heart, very portable and moves with you! We lived in a house 32 years where we raised our kids and neighborhood kids ! 😁 We put an addition on our home when the twins were born (children # 3 & 4), put up a pool, swing set, gardens, pond…… the list goes on. So many memories and believe me, we all reminisce about those wonderful years. Our kids were grown when we moved but yours are young enough to make great memories. I know you aren’t thinking of this but a great place for the grandchildren to play! 😊 Happy New Year 🎉🥳
Well Alex you can actually say " you picked your way to the top" It is you and your families hard work that made the dream come true. Alot of us would never do what you do because it is alot of hard work. I know you would never see me crawling through an attic for gems thats for sure. Your adventures are never just a simple pick because all that you do is very educational in other words very interesting. Thank you for your incredible work in bringing us along! I wish you a very prosperous new year Archbold family!!! :) :)
wow great job ..been ther 6 yrs ago and alot of downsizing for us ..had to have a heart of steel..but the prep for the move is a great way to take the stress down a notch or two Happy New Year on to the new adventure
This has inspired me to go clean my kitchen. However, it's super small and I don't have any storage. This kitchen is really nice and the next owner will hopefully really appreciate it.
Way to go you guys! House is looking fabulous! I can empathize with the move being bitter sweet. You’ve been there for many years but I just know you’re going to be making new and wonderful memories in your new home. My husband and I moved out to the country april of 2020 and it was a stressful time. Covid was just taking hold, we managed to sell our own home the first day it was listed, thankfully. Then Some days it was hard to just get boxes. We couldn’t hire people to help us load the moving truck as everyone was scared and in lock down. So it was just my husband and I. We managed to get moved back to Alberta from a province away. What a stressful time. I just know your place will give a new family a wonderful place to make their own new memories. So Excited for you upcoming move! Happy New Year to you!
When my son and daughter-in-law moved to a bigger house, my Mom and I unpacked and organized the kitchen. We kept finding jars of Ragu sauce. I think at the end of the day there were about 10 and they weren't all in the same box.🤣🇨🇦
What is it about pasta sauce? LOL Every time I decide to reorganize my pantry (which I always THINK stays pretty organized) I end up finding a few jars tucked in odd spots. I live alone, so I can’t even blame anyone else! 😂
My father's house sold in a week. My brother and I worked like whirling dervish to clean, pack up,donate, store and or dump my Father's ( and Mothers ) belongings . I sobbed on the last night at my Dads...lingering memories of him ,told the beautiful huge oak tree good bye and kissed it. Then,on to moving into my 170+ yr old building. What a month that was. I'm sure your house will go quickly. It will be loved by the new owners. Then,on to the gorgeous new house and the fun of decorating!
This is what a healthy relationship looks like. Life goals.

We are all unique; the bread “stumps” are my favorite part of the loaf. Good to see you preparing early for the sale of your house.
where I live, we call it the heel of the loaf and it was always my favourite part too.
We call it the crust, and parents tell you that your crust as it makes your hair curly.
Where I live, we call the ends of the bread crusts. Crusts are the best bit of the loaf - really tasty and versatile.
This is too funny to see what everyone calls them. Please put your location to see what areas call it which way. I moved around a lot so I've used Heel, Crust & Ends but I have never called them Stumps but I like it.
We call the end of the bread “heel”. Just diff vernacular 🤷♀️. Happy New Year to you and yours!

Bread stumps make a great addition to stuffing during the holidays! Into the freezer mine go!

You guys are the sweetest. Thanks for bringing us along. Melissa is amazing & you too Alex
Stumps? I've never heard THAT before in reference to bread heels. Funny..lol
Wow, that house doesn't look that old! You have done well with upkeep through the destructive young kid years! K.
My Norwegian grandfather used to say schlamozzal to me everytimes I did something wrong
Then a big hug and kiss with an I live you. Dont have a clue when or where he heard that saying. But uch a warm feeling hearing Alex say it.
Happy New Year to the whole family.
Just had the feeling you may have posted haha came to check and yup here's a new video! Yippy! I shared it on the Curiosity Crew fan group on fb 😀
I would be so excited about the thought of my huge pantry and storage at the new house! In my head I would be planning where everything would go.
I loved last year after living in one place for 21 years. Spent a year going through and getting rid of stuff and I’m still doing that.
Good job you two, as always ❤
You are an inspiration for us all to improve ourselves❤
Fantastic video. Happy New Year and may your adventures continue.
Melissa did a great job with that pantry and tree removal!🥰 Happy New Year to your whole family!
😊 Happy New Year 🎉🥳
Same! Just sold a house we moved into when my daughter was 2 - she’s in her 30s now!
wow great job ..been ther 6 yrs ago and alot of downsizing for us ..had to have a heart of steel..but the prep for the move is a great way to take the stress down a notch or two
Happy New Year on to the new adventure
It looks great 👍
"Chewy got the monkey" That's gonna stay in my head for days now...lol.
Great job, Melissa!
Before & After is so GREAT
Organization skills... BRILLANT
This has inspired me to go clean my kitchen. However, it's super small and I don't have any storage. This kitchen is really nice and the next owner will hopefully really appreciate it.
I'm looking forward to seeing the new house finished it's exciting
best of luck in the new year and I hope it all goes smoothly ❤️🏴 x
You keep such a beautiful home.
