Have a 2001 blazer and this video was GREAT. That inside smaller washer needs to face towards diff like you displayed as i could not find which direction to put it but the wear marks on my original showed to install the thrust washers the way you did. many thx for video.
Thank you for the video. I’ve looked all over for something showing exactly how the internals work to aid in my trouble shooting. I believe my spring is broken. Axle want to stay engaged in 4WD. Pretty sure that my problem. Thanks!!
This helps thanks. for some reason on mine the washer with the three grooves was completely out between the gears and had half of a circle ground through the side of the washer. the fork before i started was jammed and would not freely move.
I have a just a question. When i engage 4x4. I hear all these locks locking around the wheels. What is that. That is locking. Im not having problems with it. I just hear it engaging. But what is that, that is engaging. What mechanism to what
Your video is the best. Now I know y a can't pull on that cable but my only question is wean your trying to disconnect the cable from the differential it won't let you pull it out to undo the clip that holds the cable do i have to remove the hole assembly out in order to be able to disconnect the cable sorry if I can't explain it clearly I hope you understand what I'm trying to explain and by the way what ever you explained on the video It couldn't be more clear. I cant remember exactly. But i believe you need to remove 3 bolts around where the cable goes into the engagement system. Onece thise are removed, you can slide the sleeve back and unhook the clip holding the cable.
@@masond.4931 you know I think I tried it and it didn't work but it's bin a very long time so I don't really remember very clearly but I think I might have to remove the axle and the hole think the axle slides through. Lol this truck has been very neglected and owned by my step dad for over 10 years I want it to die but I definitely know it will never die at this point after his oil cooler lines burst and drove it home near a mile long with red lights to wait and maid it but with the motor chartering i though it was done. I fixed the lines pout fresh oil and ran like new so even tho it's foling apart it deserves the 4x4 to be repaired 260k on the motor dam and it's still a dog chevys are my favorite ivene though I have a dodge Durango 5.9 which I love i still like chevy better I look at the 5.2l 5.9l vs the chevys 5.7 almost like twin brother's I also love how they both sound with exhaust.
Feel dumb having to ask but it’s better to ask and find out then not ask and never know. Is the smaller washer that comes in the new kit the one that goes in between the two gears like in your vid? When I took mine apart everything fell out and I did not see exactly where that smaller washer that came out of the assembly went. I know the new kit has a smaller washer but I just want to make clear that’s where it goes!? This is definitely the only video that shows the exact assembly of those two gears so I do appreciate the video!
Hey would u say u could get this knocked out in a weekend. Did u have any major issues or need a certain tool. I'm needin to do this, myself. And jus tryin to get a idea how much time on average.
How is the dorman kit for this repair? I have been looking at it online for a bit and saw some mixed reviews. I don't really have a choice either. It's the only available kit.
@@masond.4931 I have been reading about the bravads axle swap. Is that what you're talking about? I haven't read much about swapping the entire front diff.
@@masond.4931 Hey I want to ask if there is a way to test the front differential engagement to find out if the gear is still okay. Or is the best way to test it is in 4x4 off-road.
If your light/buttons on the dash show youre in 4wd, and you can reach down and are unable to turn the front driveshaft by hand, the tcase and electronic system are working properly. This is the problem if the front differential will not engage/sent power to front wheels. The problem can still be a few things, including the vacuum lines, the diverter thing on the tcase, the suction box thing under the battery, or the mesh gear system shown in this video. Hope that helps!

If you have the tools and parts, and most importantly mechanical ability, you can do it in 3-4hrs. A weekend for a novice is easily doable.
'97 Blazer..no lights at all on the dash 4- wheel drive buttons...all fuses good... any ideas?
Probably the vacuum system, none of my issues showed on the dash. I only noticed the 4wd didnt work bc i got stuck

Not sure. that's the kit i used, ideally id swap a front diff from an astrovan or bravada to avoid the whole vacuum system

@@mattyt531 put er in 4wd and pin er on ice/gravel, have someone watch to see if your front wheels spin or just the backs
