- We got Olive 6 months ago and thought we'd share a breakdown of how much we spent on Cavoodle Olive since we got her! In this video we will share line by line of all the expenses and how much we approximately spend per month to maintain her healthy and happy. Please note the budget mentioned in the video is from our personal experience and that it may differ for others depending on location, breed, health, age, and other underlying factors (e.g. medical insurance? obedience training? daycare? etc.)

Thank you for sharing this message! Pets are a huge commitment in terms of time, patience, energy, and yes - finances. So many pets end up in shelters, or are put down every year because people failed to take all of the requirements for owning a pet into consideration. Of special importance is consideration to the breed of dog you choose, because it must be compatible with your lifestyle and capabilities as an owner to train it and care for it.. Example, don't get a pittbull if you don't understand the needs and conditions of that breed. Remember, it is never the dog's fault.. It is always the owner. And then there are the costs... You can never expect to get a puppy and think food will be your only costs! There are so many other costs that you will need to outlay in order to raise a healthy, happy, and well-trained, obedient dog. It breaks my heart every time yet another beautiful pupper arrives at the shelter where I volunteer! If people would only not rush into these decisions.

Raising awareness of the responsibility and commitment that comes with adopting is top priority which we hope can be recognized for all potential and existing pet owners🤍🐶🙏

Thank you, Mrs Joa! It's astounding to me that people would take on ANY breed of pupper on a whim ... only to see them neglected, and even tied up in people's yards. Dogs are pack animals ... they either need other doggos or very attentive owners - or both. Pupppy training is crucial for every new addition, along with socialising. They MUST have their shots (according to the region you live in) as puppies, followed by 6/12-monthly boosters, and heart-worm treatment without fail. Effective flea-treatments alone are expensive. Pets will also become more and more expensive as they get older because old dogs require much more medical attention as they age. They also require some expensive joint supplements, such as Chondroitin (around 400mg daily) &/or Krill Oil &/or Glucosamine (around 800mg daily) - to promote pain-free mobility - WHY do people allow their elderly dogs to suffer when they don't HAVE to?.. You can get ready-made preparations for dogs, but powdered human are preparations are just as effective (I use a coffee grinder and sprinkle it on their food) - and this is a particularly good method if your pupper is difficult with taking tablets. You just need to know the right amount per kg for your dog. Proper nutrition (Not caned food or dry kibble with rice & wheat fillers!) is essential - fresh meats and a variety of organ meats and a small amount of freshly cooked vegetables - are vitally important for a dog's health and longevity - yet so many owners will feed their pets anything that's cheap! Then there are the accessories that are necessary for dog control and grooming, and proper bedding etc etc etc. So no, PROPER pet care, training, and nutrition are not cheap - and people need to take into consideration ALL of these necessities BEFORE deciding to get a dog on a whim - AND i HAVEN'T EVEN MENTIONED what vet costs are involved when your dog becomes sick - which they can and often do, especially as they get older. We almost lost our large-breed male a few months ago to a staphylococcal infection .. in just 24 hours he went from fit and healthy to being at death's door, and would have died without immediate vet care! I admire anyone who does think these things through and continue to do so as their pupper gets older. There's nothing I wouldn't do for my pets - and I always put their care and welfare first. I treat them like members of my family - not as an afterthought. And neither do you. I really do love your channel - Olive is the cutest thing on four legs. Dogs are wonderful pets. I don't think people realize all the maintenance and care that goes into getting a dog. Especially for emergency vet stuff. Its sad when people have to give up their dog or neglect the pet's needs due to money.

This is so helpful for new pet owners. Great idea. My dog chewed three Apple ear buds and three leashes during teething. The first year is definitely the most expensive. He also got very sick and almost died of a intestine infection. Medical care was the most expensive of all. Also, where I live, winters are extremely cold (and the houses have no insulation or central heating…and it is the second richest country in the World! Go figure…)and extremely hot in the summer, so the heating/ air conditioner has to be left on for him when I am out (on a timer). So many dogs die of heat exaustion during the summer. It is very sad…Please take of all the potential extra care your pet may need into account. That said, Totoro is the best thing that has ever happened in my life. I adore him. All the love and laughter is worth every penny.

Our puppy was biting everything it could get its mouth into: box of Kleenex, wrist blood pressure machine, shoes, TV remotes, packagings, medicine containers (scary!), etc.

@@pauldriver9615 Paul, my Cavapoo had a heart problem, but I understand that it can't be detected until they are older. Mine was 6 yrs old when the heart murmur was detected. However, he developed other health problems as he aged: glaucoma, cataracts & diabetes. He lived to 11 1/2 yrs. old.
If I were planning to get another Cavapoo, I would want to know the age and about the health of the parents. Congenital heart problem is a major concern with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed.
They are wonderful, sweet dogs and I do not regret having Buddy in my life. I only wish I could have had more time with him. Cavapoos and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are great companions.

We can't disclose how much we paid as we signed the NDA with the breeder but generally cavapoos cost from $2000 to $5000

It needs to be researched. There are several. Certain illnesses are not covered in certain breeds, that kind of restriction. It might be helpful down the line. Sincerely, mjsr
Thank u so much for the feedback! We didn’t get her health insurance when she was a pup for her first yr,, went to vet for vaccinations and getting spayed in which none of those bills were covered by insurances. But since then we did get her insurance🤗🙌💕

Oh hello 👋 yes we got Olive from a local breeder in Washington state. Yep we've heard from several ppl reputable breeders waitlists are at 6-1yr. Before finding Olive we too went thru so many scammers it was unbelievable

Can you do a video on how you groom olive? My cavapoo puppy will need a groom soon and we don’t want to take her to a groomer.
Sure 🤗 I don't know if our grooming skill is good enough to demonstrate to anyone but we can try 🤭 thanks for the suggestions🐶
In regards to expenses, if you use a professional groomer, 1 groom ranges from $45-$80. (Groom includes: wash, haircut, trim nails, express anal glands, clean eyes & ears, blow dry & brush out. If matt removal is necessary, the cost increases.)
If you use a mobile groomer, the groom cost will be in the higher price range. That amount is based on living in a large city rather than small town.
I had a Cavapoo, and I found 6 weeks between grooms was about right for him. I thought he looked cutest when his hair was longer. However, I learned that if I stretched time between grooms to 7 or 8 weeks, he was likely to get matts, especially behind the ears and around the tail. That was even with my brushing and combing him daily. He had long wavy hair, rather than the tighter curls of a Poodle.
Cavapoos are wonderful and worth the time and expense. However, grooming is an expense and time commitment that must be included in owning a Cavapoo.

We feed Olive Health Extension amzn.to/3rsoJOB cavapoos are so pick eater. Olive doesn’t eat the dry food alone unless we mix it with wet food 😅

Curious you didn't mention pet insurance? Maybe not an option where you live? In the UK it's expensive but worth it if things happen esp anything long term. Fyi UK ppl if you get petplan pay extra for the life time cover otherwise any illness the pet gets during a year stops being covered at the end of that insurance year. My cats thyroid and then acute unwellness towards the end ran to thousands of ££, it was a lot even just when I paid excess but I couldn't have afforded without the insurance.
Good to know thank u for sharing!~ we didn't have pet insurance at the time as we felt she didn't need it; being young and healthy(going to the vet often for vaccines she was confirmed healthy) and paying upfront cost less vs insurance which doesn't cover the puppy vaccines and spay anyway. We got her pet insurance briefly, perhaps get it later down the road😕🐶👋
Might consider pet medical insurance. It’s usually fair deal.

Your dog is cute and im not sure why you train ur pup to use the potty indoors. I got my husky pup at 8 weeks next day immediately started potty training by 11 weeks fully trained to let me know when she had to go out to potty. She just hit the bell on the doors. You wasted money, but you did it your way
Hello~ thank u for reaching out, ppl may have their own perspective on this but we find it more convenient to use the litter box as we both work and dont have convenience to take her out each time she needs to go as well as the fact outdoors is not as easily accessible due to living in a high rise bldg. Hope that helped clear your confusion🤗

We don't have insurance for Olive. We think that the cost of insurance is more expensive than actual medical bills. Also most of insurance has the limit on the coverage.

I’m curious as to why you groom Olive yourselves and do not take her to a groomer?
At the time we were quoted $120~ and up. it wasn't too difficult for us to groom her ourselves when she was a puppy so it worked out for us. Now that she is fully grown, we take her to a groomer once every 3 months to maintain her fur from getting matts/knots.

with us.’He was trained with newspapers in the kitchen..
He was rambunctious,but very loveable. Food.medicine and care were necessary expenses..
He had a sweater and several coats for bad weather
But,we let him be..
