Hi, Al. Rutabagas get sweeter after they've been kissed by frost.
Bestvwishes from Kate in Olympia, WA
Maverick and goose proubly fond a pond or something went swimming. Hope they turn up. Every thing is looking so good. Just a beautiful homestead.
With our blueberries, I've found if you have to pull it off the plant, it's too early. If you just sort of roll it and it pops right off, it's more likely to be sweet instead of tart.
Nothing like watching Al, Gena and Olivia working on the homestead.
@@donaldhill2972 yeah, well, what do you expect when you don't screen-in your greenhouse?
@@Bamboo4U2 if you screen your Greenhouse you don't have the necessary pollinators.
@@maryblaylock6545 that particular moth arrives at night time, no?
@@Bamboo4U2 correct. If the screens could be lowered at night and raised in the morning then they would be effective.
You see Olivia working?
Couples that garden together stay together ❣❤
Puts a whole new meaning to green eggs and ham lol :D Mr Figaro understands better than us humans that we are the slaves of cats he he he :D Hope you find Maverick and Goose soon!!
Prayers for Maverick and Goose safe return. 🙏
Hoping you find Maverick and Goose real soon and that they are fine! Love your VLOG and the farm life.
We did see the ducks across the road at the creek at least one time. I’d be willing to bet that’s where they went. They may have made themselves a new home over there
Let's hope that's where they are.🤞🤞🤞
They'll meet local coyote who will have them for dinner. Any bird that likes to walk out should have their wings clipped or be sent to freezer camp.
@@davelawson2564 or just expect that they can be prey for other animals
What a beautiful garden you have! Yes, your harvest has been and continues to be very bountiful BUT, you and Gina have put in the work and expense so it’s not been at a cost. At least the years going forward, the structure will pay for itself! You’re reaping what you’ve sown....blessings on you and your homestead!! Most impressive!!
I thought Figaro was gonna take you to the ducks for a minute there.
Me too lol
I wish Figaro would've been able to take Al to Maverick & Goose I'm worried about them🙏
@@shirleymoore6902 They either ran away or dead in belly of hungry coyote
@@davelawson2564 They probably went to a pond or lake. I know how they must feel: summer's almost over, and I haven't been swimming yet!
12 years for your over night success that it seems to us watching you. You 3 are amazing people.
I enjoy watching and learning how u all garden because u seem perfectly productive thanks for sharing
Great shot of the fog! I'd forgotten about the drone. Know what you mean about those misty mornings before the sun breaks through. So nice! 🙂

Good Morning 🌞 Lumnah Acres Family ❤️ I hope you're having a blessed & wonderful day today ❤️ lots of love & hugs I really love you all so much ❤️ I also love watching your videos every morning ❤️ also I hope you find Maverick & Goose safe & sound ❤️ LOL I love the look on Olivia's face when she ate the blueberry ☺️ I love you so much with all my heart Al Gina & Olivia you are such a wonderful family
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I get weak in the stomach when you can’t find the ducks. Praying for them . Another great day on the homestead.
Gena needs to buy the pink lemonade blueberry plant next year!
Ya'll need screens on the lower greenhouse. Theyre gonna keep laying eggs on your nightshade plants.
And the cole crops as well.
Jadae 16t - I know I'm being pedantic! but it's *Gina*
Soapy water kills some bugs. Neen oil is another good natural way of dealing with bugs
Good Morning Al and Family watching from the UK the summer here is cool. I wonder where Maverik and Goose are to. By the way you guys rock and so awesome see you tomorrow.
Here in the UK farmers grow turnips and swede as a dedicated feed crop for sheep in the area where I live. They don't harvest the crop, but let the sheep onto the fields to eat the crop directly. It's especially popular just before lambing time, so while it gets muddy, the sheep get fairly good nutrition from the field compared to grazing grass that isn't producing any nutritional value.
I hope Maverick and Goose are okay, but if they're not, that's the risk you take with certain animals roaming freely about the place. There's always a trade off, and it shows why you have compromised using chicken tractors for your meat birds. I suspect the losses would be too great if you didn't employ the methods you do.
I'm so pleased you've managed to start planting your extended growing season garden. It must be such a thrill to do that this year.
I just love your set up. we are 3 years in the making here. So this does give us hope that one day we will get to the point where you are now.
I have been scouring the skies over London and no sign of any ducks
I heard they just flew by few minutes before you came out.
LOL
Now you've got me picturing cartoon ducks mixed in with the old zepplins
Just love seeing the goats single file running to the feeder. Nice little herd!
Tart blueberries usually means the soil needs more acid. It's is in the 50's this morning too but soon warms up. I am worried about the ducks. I hope they show up.
Agreed, blueberries require very acidic soil.
Blueberries, I got 6 gallons this year! I pick every 2-3 days and always let them sit on the counter for at least 2 days before putting them in fridge or freezer. They need time for the sugars to develop after picking. We mulch ours with pine needles.
God bless Gina for so diligently going after those Hornworms. That's a woman on a mission! 🐛😱
I'm so proud and happy for ya'll thumbs up my friends we so love maverick and Goose they've been with you for a long time and I suppose us as well since we've been with ya'll for a long time we so hope that those knuckleheads come back safely maybe they found some wild girlfriends lol my little one she is so worried about maverick and Goose we love ya'll thumbs up again
Also very excited to see you all plant your fall garden 😄🍁🌱🍁🌱
I really hope Maverick and Goose will find their way back home 🙏💗
Thanks we do too
@@LumnahAcres If they do, maybe it's finally time to clip their flight feathers and actually turn on the electric fence. Clipping flight feathers would keep the chickens where you want them as well.
With all the heat, the ducks are probably drawn to nearby water pools. Maybe they found a spot along your creek?
I suggested making a duck pond on the property for them. That might keep them at home.
Where is this farm ??
New Hampshire

Really enjoy watching the two of you working so well together.
That's some rich looking compost. well done.
He doesn't need to add anything else!
Your building projects always peak my interest. You and your wife always work well together.
Figaro is such a sweetie. Who wouldn't love a tuxedo cat?
Good morning Al, Gina and Olivia thanks for the extra goat bits 😊🌻
YOU TWO SHOULD FILL SO GOOD AT WHAT YOU DO THANKS FOR THE VIDEOS I ENJOY
I look forward to your posts every day. I sure do miss it on the days you don’t post. I sure hope Goose & Maverick get their little duck butts back home. I’m worried about them. They are so much a part of y’all’s homestead. The greenhouse is doing awesome. I hope you put row covers, over your brassicas, to keep the worms out. It has made a big difference to several homesteaders I watch. Keep the great videos coming. Blessings, Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇨🇱🇺🇸❤️👍🥰🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
did you know that rutabegas have to stay in the ground until they get hit with hard frost? then they become sweet;
I did not know that. Thanks!
Kale and Brussel sprouts do better after a frost, too.
I love how bees sleep in flowers holding each others feet 😍
9 eggs but how many are still getting laid wild , you work hard to eat well . Hope the ducks turn up.
Love to watch your family work together on your homestead. Love that you have come a long way and your homestead is thriving and doing so well. Maverick and Goose are probably doing a “fly-by” someone else’s place. LOL.
Goooood Morning Modern-steaders! Lumna Acres has certainly weathered the worm storm well. I just looked at my 3mo electric bill and the hot summer here has taken it's toll. Fortunately for me, winter's heat bill will actually go down. Odd I know however; this year a BBQ place opened and they smoke 4-5 days per week. Needless to say, two months of that and my apartment smells perpetually of pig fat even with the windows closed and air on.
Hoping Maverick and Goose are ok. Keep us updated. Also do you have anymore Wildlife footage from the Game cameras???
Morning! It was 108 here in Fresno, CA yesterday, so I envy your misty morning. Suggestion only: Where you are drying the onions, build drop-down slats to allow you to put the screen doors and "stack" them. Won't have to use the walk space, the saw horses. Anyway, just an idea. BLESSINGS TO YOUR BEAUTIFUL FAMILY!
I love your utube. Every morning I watch with my coffee. You both are to be commended on how hard you work and as a team you are so special. Thank you for making my day. Hope you find the ducks!!!
Good to see ya'll in full harvest. We've canned so much out of our little garden, we've about run out of mason jars to can with since there is a shortage of the jars and the garden is still producing like crazy. So far we've canned 11 half pints of watermelon rind, 5 half pints of seasoned dried tomatoes, 8 quarts blackberries, 3 qts and 5 pints stewed tomatoes, 8 pints banana pepper rings w/a little fresh ground cayenne pepper in them, 1 pt dried cayenne peppers, 8 pints jalapeno pickle, 4 oz dried/crushed anaheim peppers, 4 oz dried cayenne peppers, 7 pints bread and butter pickles, 13 pints hot salsa, 9 pints mild salsa, 5 qts mild salsa, 2 four oz. jelly jars of green tomato relish. And we've given away about 7 jars of stuff to friends/family. We've also given away a bunch of tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, squash, and 3 watermelons. Our garden is still producing like crazy still. We're also seeding out cabbage, bok choy, carrots and onions this week. We don't have a greenhouse, but we've copied the grow boxes you use for some stuff and plan on putting the pvc pipe/plastic mini greenhouse lids on those grow boxes like you did. (Imitation: The most sincere form of flattery. grin) Like you, we've dealt with and are dealing with the darned ole hornworms, cutworms and a boring insect of some sort (eating blossoms, wiped out our cucumbers). We've been enjoying watching your harvest style and how you're processing various vegetables and comparing/contrasting the methods. My wife made that sweet and sour meatballs for me and it was delicious. I'm trying to talk her into making it with shrimp next (grin).
I totally enjoyed watching you and Gina planting the new crop. Praying it does really well, and looking forward to more videos of how you preserve food. You all rock! God Bless.
Bolivia's face when she ate the blueberry was worth a million dollars. She is so beautiful. I knew she would eat a second one though because kids that she love sour things. My youngest son is 14 and he loves things that are tart.
You have chosen wisely and have a wonderful homestead. Keep safe and well.💐👍💖🐖🐓🐐🐥
Good morning Lumnah Acres. (I picked 9 eggs) Hope the ducks are okay. Your garden is amazing!!!
Good morning from fort worth tx blessing always.
Pine straw mulch will help bring up the acid on your blueberries and help sweeten them. It's free if you have pine on your property! I also use it in my chicken coop instead of straw, it smells so good, and I have an abundance of free bedding for them
...it's beautiful watching both of you work together....
God bless your little family...💝😊
Great video, the compost looked so dark and rich. Gina you rock!! I have to have the hubby pick the worms off lol
Hope Maverick and Goose make it home soon. God Bless
Good morning! Ducks need a pond that is secure. They wander off because they need water to swim in. You guys are amazing!! Just want to say THANK YOU for giving us the inspiration to do more gardening! Its been a great year so far. Big Hugs from Perth Ontario Canada.
Ontario... you guys make Lumnah farms seem Balmy 🌴
Carleton Place here we here in zone 5a and Perth is in 5b
They are probably down at the lake!
@@lindajohnson4204 hopefully they catch more than Al did. LOL
Maybe you should get some ladybugs for the greenhouse? They eat hornworms when they are tiny.
I'd be checking near the creek for your ducks
So good to see you planting your fall/winter garden! How exciting! Will be fantastic to have your own homegrown fresh vegetables all year long :-)
I made some roasted corn on the cob and broccoli last night to go with my roast and it was so good.
the ducks predate every current animal on the homestead besides pluto, im hoping you find them
Matthew Robinson they are some of the OGs
At 14:24 Gina pops up from behind the peppers and it reminds me of the old show “Hee Haw” when they pop up out of the corn patch. Lol.
I hope they come back from their vacation! Your chickens are turning egg gathering into an everyday Easter egg hunt!
Would make shift side screens help with next growing season and get those nasty lil worms ...
Maverick & Goose are probably down in the brook.
Not when its feeding time,
@alison webster Al is hoping its not. Any bird tries to stay out regularly should be sent to freezer camp or they'll end up in Predator camp.
@alison webster yeah, possibly a human one ...?
You two have a very beautiful homestead. Thanks you for sharing with us.
I sure hope the ducks come home. Maybe hey went down to the stream. Fall garden is looking good. I was disappointed about the rutabagas but at least i made food for the animals. Thanks for sharing. Have a Blessed day.
"pre cursor to bacon and eggs" that is a good one 👍🏽. Great video as always. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge.
Error 404 morning still loading hahahaha have a great day all and a good laugh
Hope they return soon safe and healthy..
Have a good evening 🌻🌻🌻
Tip: rutabagas, left in ground, are sweetened by a little bit of frost. Blessings.
“Good mornin honey” lol . I LOVE the way you talk to your female chickens Al. You all are so good to each other and your animals. I just love watchin your videos. Thank you all for sharin your life with all of us. God loves you all. May God continue to bless you, your family, your animals, your homestead and everything you,Gina and Livi desire to accomplish.
Love love how he starts his morning feeding and caring for the animals. ❤️❤️
Keep up the good work and thanking GOD for your blessings!!!
I love your work ethic it wears me out just watching you both. God bless.
Hi...... AL and Gina nice to see you both, thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👨👩👧👸👕👓🐩🐔🐓🐥🐕🐖🐈🌱🐐🏡🎥👍👍👍
Guys, those new plantings look fantastic. Will you need to choose what you will grow in those outside rows, the rows next to the walls I mean? My wife won’t pick our blueberries until, she says: “....until they “roll” off into my hand.” I’m so glad your blueberries are yielding already. It’s a good sign for next spring. I really enjoyed today’s video. Thank you and God Bless you all three.
You could get a small kiddie pool to put in the NYC area so Goose and Maverick have a place to enjoy splashing around in some water. I wonder if they went looking for some water to splash in? The kiddie pool might keep them around the homestead. Have you trimmed their wings?
I raised a dozen Khaki Campbell ducks this year. The eight females were about ready to start laying eggs and I could tell I had four drakes. There was a full moon and they disappeared over night from inside their pen. I never saw them again. It was sad but I hope they are still out there as a flock.
Good morning Al,and Gina🥀
Goooood Morning!
Thank you for sharing ❤️💗❤️
SENDING A BRIGHT WHITE LIGHT OF LOVE TO SURROUND THE UNIVERSE 🤗💞💖🤗 AND EVERYONE 🤗❣️❣️🤗💞
Hard work in the greenhouse....
Fodder...for all the animals....
Another great day & great vids 😍💚
Please, keep us updated on the Ducks. And how are the little chicks are doing???
Try poking the plants in the trays from the bottom . You can purchase a tray with prongs on it. You just rest the seedling tray on top and push down gently. I'm sure Al could make one with spare wood and some Dowling is easy to resettle plants you don't want yet back into their cells.
Hopefully the ducks will come back
I've never seen a rutabaga headband before but it certainly did look nice on your piggy.
I grew up with fog on the west coast of Canada always smells like baked ham there still love it!
Alright!!! Glad yall got a green house! Let the garden continue! I just worry about all that snow you guys get!
Got to have rutabaga for my Old World Pasties recipe. But you’re right, if they’re bitter, it’ll ruin all my hard work! I’ve learned to cook a little first for a taste test before I start the pasties. Loving all the homestead projects. The whole greenhouse experience has been my favorite. I’m glad Gina spotted the hornworms on the pepper plants. Praying the ducks come home! Blessings!
So happy for you, finally able to plant a fall and winter garden 🥰
Great to see the greenhouse doing so well the first year! Great job!
Good morning ! I was looking while you were composting, at the side of the greenhouse. You could run a strip of wood on that metal support strip right under the rolled up side on the inside of the g'house and tack up some bug or mosquito netting for next year to keep out all the moths that lay your tomato worms! It won't interfere with opening and closing of the sides! Also put netting (maybe weighed down) around the doors, all on the inside, so you can come in and out, and also by the vents. Netting on the sides can be raised up on each support by a string from underneath and loop it around the netting and hook it on the wood on a nail. Just something I thought about while watching your "Great Worm Hunt!" Good luck with your next crop God Bless!
In England during WW2, due to a lack of grass because every available field was plowed for crops, the tops of swedes, turnips, parsnips etc were actually made into silage! It makes very good animal fodder. 🙂
i’ve suggested things in the past and you have ignored, so will try one more time. Try mashing like mashed potatoes your rutabaga with parsnips and some butter salt and pepper. The sweetness of the parsnips contrasts fantastically with the rutabaga and is delicious.
James Worth I LOVE Parsnips with potatoes ❣️
Trying rutabaga this week for the first time
So excited!
We had to mail a large rutabaga to California because my son wanted to make vegetable beef soup, his grandmother's recipe. He said all they had there was those cute little baby vegetables which Won't Do For Soup. The next door neighbor kid couldn't eat fruits so he and I would sit in his mother's garden with the salt shaker and eat the little itty bitty rutabagas.
I had potato salad with rutabagas it was very very good. So many different ways to cook. Hard to do them all.
Morning family! Yes fall is coming. Went from 90 to 60 too fast for me. Love the warm summer weather of New England's coast. Lil Rhode Island.
Hey Al, do you guys watch Art and Bri? They have a homestead in North Carolina and they just did a vlog on making sauerkraut. Art said that he is going to do some lessons on fermenting vegetables. I thought it might be something you would be interested in. Fermented foods are very good for health. I drink kombucha all the time to control my stomach issues. I think he’s going to teach how to make kombucha too.
A very nice 👍 cat 🐈,stay safe Welsh Lyn.
Your compost is making such beautiful soil.
Morning Guy's! for me buying soil for the homestead garden has been my biggest expense! Great that you can produce your own. Good luck on getting after those worms!
Morning Glory, AKA field bindweed, is difficult to eradicate. Seeds don't die at normal composting temps (165 F) but don't know what fermenting like silage would do. Good luck. Keep up the hard work. Always a pleasure waking up with your homestead!
