The carrier deck and Kate is a cool kit! What a time to be a modeler!
U got the deck with bridge & plane, but unfortunately none of the japanese model manufacturers have any 1-35 navy crews!
@@sebastian-FX357Z1 Border is coming out with an 8 piece IJN crew figure set to accompany this dual kit soon! 🤩
I personally think carrier decks/towers would make more sense in 1/48. But that's just my preference.
That's going to take up a lot of real estate, even in 1/48 which I would prefer.
@@sebastian-FX357Z1A figure’s difference in scale would be like a person being 5’10” vs 5’4”. That is a completely normal range of height for humans. It’s a moot point because figures for this kit are coming soon too.
Dangerous kit, I might end up scratchbuilding rest of the deck by accident :)
Coming next, 1/35 scale 'Battleship Row'. 😂
Here's something on that subject to consider. If you convert the actual dimensions of the Akagi into 1/35 scale, the full ship would be approximately 24.4 feet long by 3 feet wide. There's already someone who built a 1/48 scale USS Tennessee fully detailed R/C [12 feet long] with a dock and a tug, who sails it around on a small pond. [Check out the UA-cam video; very impressive!] It would be one hell of a project, but I expect that somebody out there with the necessary covered workspace, time, resources, knowledge, and patience, is seriously contemplating a 1/35 Akagi. There are people who build massive model train sets in sections, then connect them together when they display them in different locations. One 8-foot section would fit in the back of a truck; three trips and the Akagi would be all there. I pity the IPMS chapter that would have to make space for THAT entry at their annual show. But I would not be surprised if there is a UA-cam video in a year or two of a 1/35 carrier or battleship. I would expect it to be waterline, but find someone who has a large country property with a shallow natural or man-made pond on it, in addition to all the other requirements above, and we'll all be watching "Bass fishing on my pond while Akagi prowls above!"
Thw 360 degree light on the top of the mast is an anchor light. A small tip from an retired master mariner , most glass ive encounterd on ships for portholes and windows do have a green shine on them due to the thickness of the glass it is not clear so i think that building this model it would be suitable to use the Tamiya clear green colour X25 in a thin layer.
Andy, you have got to build this kit, wow 👏👏👍
I would imagine Border will come out with an add-on for the island mattresses. Surprising they were not included considering the kit box art.
Should I wait and see? Or should I made them out of Air Dry Clay, like other sandbags?
I believe the 1/72 scale version has them
Andy a true gentleman of the modeling world wishing you and your family Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Merry Christmas
I already pre-ordered the Akagi Deck + B5N Kate set. Waiting for Border Models to release the IJN Carrier Crew soon. 😊
I only saw CAD views of the model online. Thank you Andy for showing us the actual parts. The island part of carrier deck is truly massive.
Can't wait to build! 😊
so cool! so exited! i hope border will also produce a 1/35 a6m2 zero and 1/35 d3a val so you can rotate on occasion between the 3 planes on the akagi deck, lets all hope.
I really like all the 1/16 armor and these 1/32 and 1/35 aircraft, but just don't have the room. Some modelers don't realize how big some of these things are. I went to hanging airplanes up years ago so I could use shelf space for land models.
Very impressive kit to say the least. I think the downfall is the scale once completed. I for one as for many others is the space it would it take up. Separate hatch doors and a basic interior to give you a start to detail up would have been nice, especially the bridge it's self. Good kit if you enter shows where you could display their ongoing line of 1/35 aircraft kits. Thanks for the video Andy !
I'm sure there are modelers that can make it happen for them but I haven't been enjoying that a lot of the products Andy has been showcasing lately have been larger scale kits.
It’s an amazing time to be a modeler
The items you called sandbags are actually the crews tightly rolled hammocks. They used them for splinter protection.
Brilliant! A+++++ ‘Did not know that. Thank you. 👍
@@catlady8324 My partners grandfather served in the IJN on destroyers during WW 2. He recently passed away at 102 years.
Great looking kit.
Just for future reference, here is some Navy terminology for you....
Stairs are called Ladders
Rails on the ship are called Life Lines
The flags you showed are for communication, especially when ships are on radio silence.
Brass is called Brightwork
Always love your kit videos and final builds.
And fixed equipment is on a foundation, not stanchion.
and walls are called bulkheads|!
Those aren't sandbags, its the soldiers futon mattresses hung up for shrapnel protection like sandbags...
Andy, maybe you could suggest to Border to do a USS Hornet with a B-25?
Now THAT’s a good idea!!! Some may say it would “Do little” for them, but I think it’s the cat’s meow!
I would have prefer a Essex carrier full bridge with at least 2 of the 5 inch guns turrets & deckload park with Hellcat fighters with folded wings.
The mind does really boggle, when you see whst these kit manufacturers are bringing out, I suppose there must be a market for these kits, Andy, I would likebto wish you, your family and staff a Very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year, very best regards from Australia
I have preordered the takoms 1/72 akagi and i hope i will have space for it. But its shame takon dont have anything supporting the kit. Only hasegawa have 1/72 zero that was on akagi during Pearl Harbor and i still dont have figures. Border have figures and a whole plane with full details.
Do they have other ships & can you provide a link?
Always wanted a 1:32 Kate !!
Could you make a video on the Tamiya F-4 C/D Phantom II 1/32 scale? I just got that kit for Christmas and your videos are the most helpful I find on UA-cam for scale kits and how to assemble and paint them well!
Those clear parts on the Kate are a dream! Build one with folded wings and put it on the deck beside the one in the deck tower kit. 😮
I’m in the Akagi / Kate preorder club!
Maybe we will see a crew set from the aftermarket people. Needed if you wanted a diorama of it attacking low over water or running up on carrier deck. Looks good and i will be getting this one. Thanks Andy.
The aircraft looks very nice with buckets of detail. The Flightdeck... Moulded on pipes and trunks in that scale!? I would have thought that all the "loose" bits would have been just that. Separate parts...
8 Figures Meow Available for Preorder on Andy’s site! 4 Crew, 2 Pilots, and 2 Officers are Only $53 American money. They look great.
“Let’s get started!” as Andy says.
Thanks for watching
@@AndysHobbyHeadquarters He says that too! 😉 Thank you, Sir.
I think the most complicated part of this would be the Kate. Despite its size, I bet the carrier model goes together relatively quickly.
Just preordered it ....thank you Andy
That is one bonkers kit!
Andy, would you consider making your display cases for 1/48 airplanes and next-level 1/32 scale airplanes. Love the hinged latch
Wow, what a fantastic kit. Andy have a great Christmas.
Wow, what awesome kits, the details on both of them are really incredible. Border Models has done a really top job here. I don't build airplane models, but I'll really make a start with the "Kate", a wonderfully beautiful kit.
Thanks for your video, very interesting Great Job 👍👏👌
Oh this was cruel, I was going to skip this one due to size, but 5 minutes in and I pulled the trigger on the pre-order
Magnificent, just wish I had room for them both. Even at 1/72 I would hard pushed for space.
Be nice if this was part 1 of the complete carrier released over (let's say) 4 years. I'd buy it after clearing out 1 of my bedrooms.
Andy congrats on a great year. Wishing you and your family a great Christmas 🎄
Looks like 2 nice kits 👍👍
Hope to see flight deck crew in the future as well as the sand bags shown on the box art, and yes a Zero would be nice as well, get better Andy you sound kind of rough.
Great kits, but I like others think the futon splinter/blast bags should have been provided. The 1/72 Takom Akagi includes them.
Hi Andy!!
Wishing you and your family a Very Merry Christmas!!!
I had reservations about aircraft in 1/35 scale but after seeing the Kate I have changed my mind. This is must build model.
Get well quickly Andy!
Man they modeled the oil canning on the aircraft skin?!?! Modern kits will never cease to amaze me with their details wow!
I would say this is pretty standard now. I'd be disappointed if I got a kit and it didn't have it...
@@stephengilmore2741 apparently I haven’t built any aircraft kits that are more recent molds
I'm hoping for a Lex or a Yorktown, then take my money!
Two really great kits Andy.
Nice Merry Christmas to all here
formidable
Yeah Hellcat+ carrie bridge might be a perfect model set. What I´d like to see in 1:35 is the AH-1H/J skyraider.
20:02 US Navy vet here Andy :) Those parts look to be stanchions (railings) for around the flight deck :)
1/35 Kate ? Wow sign me up dude ! 😎
Will there be a Tiger II(1/16) model kit soon?
Awesome, now they need to do the same section for the old Yorktown, Enterprise, Hornet, etc and a British carrier.
Looks like a great combo kit!
Very impressive.
有難う!!!相当に良さげなキットですね。97艦攻は注文済みですが。艦橋も捨てがたいですね。
That looks like a very detailed kit, let's hope they do release one of a US ship👍👍
Nice to know there are 1/35 scale aircraft out there
Gosh what a magnificent model to make! I'm impressed and a Zero is equally very welcome👍👍👍! I wish you a merry Xmas with your family
WOW! That is nice! Let me know when an American ships bridge is on the matket.
This is so crisp casting, Forge world could learn something there
Andy, you have got to do a video build of that Akagi deck and island at some point!
Wow, cool review of two incredible kits. The ONLY negative I can think of is the lack of Japanese figures in 1/35.
Andy, you've got to take care of that throat !
Hey Andy, I’m anxiously awaiting word on Das Werks 9 ton Vomag (bus chassis) with 88 cm. Flak. Have preordered back in November and wondering have you heard anything on it’s arrival yet. Not patient enough, Rick.
So when will you produce more build videos I'm missing them, they are really helpful and informative?????
No Way! Sap the fun right out of waiting for the 1/72 scale version why don't ya'?
Happy Holiday Andy, wishing you the best! Love your store and your videos!
Andy's been in the warehouse, yelling at his elves: "Come on boys, let's ship some toys!"
Wow, a big model and beautiful
Defo is big but uber nice 😎👍
NOW FOR YOUR OWN GOOD 🤧🤧😷😷🧐🧐‼️‼️
Incredible detail! Beautiful kit!
Looks like you’ll only need to provide a battery! I assume the box is built in with a door.
Hi Andy love your UA-cam site so much info on the newest kits on the market and critic of the kits, do you know of anyone producing the armoured ammunition carriers for the M109 paladin self propelled gun in 1/35 scale ? I am desperate to find one if possible, look forward to hearing any info you can uncover for me, cheers, mike.
impressive....btw, BEAVER CORPORATION has just released the Akagi flight deck in 1/72!!
I was hoping the price would be an "excuse" to avoid adding this big dual kit to my stash. Alas, the price IMO is excellent. Time to open up more space in a closet somewhere 😛
The flag with the sun and rays is the Imperial Japanese flag and the other flags were used to donate an admiral of a certain rank was onboard.
Better have a huge Shelf 😂
Ok Andy, clear the build table and lets get started on it.
The deck kit may be too much for my abilities...but that Kate kit really got my attention!...
Impressive Andy
Wow!!!! You are the king pin of the Hobby !!!
Rock on !!
I'd love to see a 1/48 scale flight deck of USS Essex. At this scale the island would be close to 900mm long.
Wonder if someone more adventurous/skilled than me would buy both models, and try to kitbash part of the hangar deck to fit the 2nd Kate on 😅
Looks good. Glad I bought the Airfix B-17G, I figured with Xmas and Masters of the Air there would be a spike in their demand. Any news on the Airfix Ferret?
Do the kits come with suggested colour choice's. The big deck will be very hard to get right.
Size difference between 1/32 and 1/35 Kate is how much in mm? H, W, L, I’d love to do an entire pacific theater shelf and I’m thinking the size difference is tolerable.
EDIT: A 6’ tall figure in 1/32 is 5.6cm tall and in 1/35 is 5.1cm for a difference of 5mm. Or, 6’ tall would be 5’6” tall. Approximately.
So, a B5N2 Kate would be 10mm (3/8”) Height, 20mm (13/16”) Wing Span, 15mm (5/8”) Length difference. Approximately. I could live with that.
@@catlady8324 Sorry, but you got your units wrong! 6' in 1/32 is 57.15mm, and in 1/35 is 52.25mm. You confused it with centimeters (cm).
@@MikeUSA67 Thank you, Edit correction done.
they include the led lighting and battery terminals but they couldnt throw in the battery box?
Can you please make a video building this?
And now the bridge and deck of USS Enterprise
The flight deck is insane; any buyer needs a BIG display cabinet - ! 😅
1/35th scale plane 😮😮😮 I'm going to have to get a bigger house, mind you then I would have enough space for a 1/35th scale "Dora" railway gun 👍 now how to get it past the wife 🤔🤔🤔
What a shame Border doesn’t supply figures in that kit
A US carrier deck for the battle of Midway would be amazing
Merry Christmas Andy.
Not quite as bad price as thought would be ,but still like the scale £135 UK
I soooooooo want one of these!!!❤
Does the Kate that comes with the bridge have clear canopies or opaque canopies? What is the link if I decide to order the bridge with the Kate?
Awesome
I believe Takom is bringing out a 1/72 Akagi deck - more manageable scale - will you do a review of this one when it comes out?
There you go. Much prefer the common 1/72 scale over the odd-ball (odd-ball for aircraft) 1/35 scale.
Enough talking mate start building let that be our Christmas gift from you! Mary Mary Christmas Andy from sunny Greece!
Thanx
Yes the other person is right they are not sand bags but the crews sleeping gear the reason they did not use sand bags it would be to dangerous for the deck crews if sand was all over the deck and bad visibility for the flight crews to solve the problem you would have to keep the sandbags wet and no one is going to worry about that during an attack
Nerd heaven.
