Let's give credit to the composers of "Close to You", the legendary Burt Bacharach and Hal David. They created a classic. Karen and Richard's artistic brilliance transformed this classic into a masterpiece in popular music.
這種聲音和像是跟你說話般的唱歌方式, 實在是世間曾經出現過最美好的存在. This kind of voice and the way of singing as if talking to you which is really the most beautiful existence that has ever appeared in the world.
Karen was such an incredible talent...drummer extraordinaire ... and singer perfection. (Whenever I watch a video of the Carpenters I always try to find the ones where Karen is drumming because I know she loved it...and in my head she is happier.)
and richness, warmth, soul....ultimate VOCALIST who sang TO the listener NOT at them and knew her job was a storyteller for her songs.. Skills that 99% of singers, and so called great singers have no clue of....
Better than Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston or Maria Callas? Can't you see how calling someone the best female vocalist of all time is nonsense? Maybe what you mean is she's your favourite female vocalist, but that's a very different thing
Close To You won the Grammy Award for the 1970 song of the year. Beating out The Beatles (pun intended :-) Let It Be and Simon and Garfunkles Bridge Over Troubled Water. I remember your Rainy Days And Mondays reaction.to Karen playing the drums. Karen was a world class drummer and a Mt Olympus Vocalist. The likes that will never come again. Dionne Warwick describes/compares Karen's voice to 'smoky wood'. May I highly recommend the live version of Elvin Bishop's song "Fooled Around And Fell In Love" Mickey Thomas delivers one of the all time great vocal performances. It's an incredible song and Mo, I know you will really REALLYenjoy it. Sorry for rambling, RNB
That’s an urban legend, she never won any drummer of the year award. It started with people claiming that she won playboy magazines, readers poll for best drummer in 1975 but in fact she came in 10th. She barely did any drumming for them, so don’t make silly statements and try to pretend that she was somehow a better drummer than John Bonham and Ginger Baker.
The Carpenters made so many lovely melodies - and Karen's voice is amazing. You should try some more of their songs - her voice and the clarity is just as good in each one :)
Closer to You was released in 1970. She is fantastic and there are many other songs. You saw her playing drums. She was a great drummer before she was a great singer. There is a UA-cam video titled - (Karen Carpenter Drummer) - that is from a college competition, that shows how good she was. (The Dick Carpenter trio won the competition) Also, Through the magic of electrics, they were their own back-up singers and choir. -- You might like Greg Lake's solo performance of - ("Still... You Turn me On" from the Calif Jam 1974.) - Then all the girls when I was in High school loved David Gates of the group 'Bread'. His looks and his voice. Many hits including "Make It With You" - "Baby I'm-a Want You" - "Guitar Man" - "Diary" - "Aubry" - then there was "Goodbye Girl" that was used in the movie by the same name.
Amazingly, Karen just wanted to be a drummer. She had to be convinced to be a lead singer. What a shame it would have been it we hadn't gotten to hear her beautiful voice.
I remember that song well as a kid. It was released the summer of 1970 when I was nine years old and it was literally everywhere. You're right - it was very easy to understand the lyrics even for a little kid - very clear phrasing and Karen's voice was just so special.
Baby Girl I love the Carpenters too! Karen's voice is so pure and angelic. And with her brother, Richard doing the arrangements on the songs, it was pure gold. This song was the title song of the album which also had We've Only Just Begun. It was released on August 19th 1970, three days after my wife and I married. So it holds a special place in our hearts. We have the album and still enjoy it. We also got to see them live a couple of years later. It was an awesome performance! Always nice to see your smiling face and dimples.🤗 ❤
Song brings back fond memories of my childhood ..Mom loved The Carpenters so we got to hear them a lot. Growing up in the 60s and 70s was great. Glad to see you enjoy it as much as I did ..
I was a very young boy when the Carpenters started with there music , but they were one of my favorites to listen to like many of that time. Her voice was so clear and softly smooth. Like a dream that comes to life. One of the best artists of that time. She left us all to soon in the music world. Her music lives on forever.
Morenikeji, thank you for this...I'm now in my mid-60's, and was always a "Hard Rocker", but, upon first hearing Karen Carpenter's voice in '69, I was totally captivated. Upon her so sad passing in 1983, I couldn't listen to her music any longer...it was just to painful...I took a chance on your presentation, and I'm glad I did. Thank you. Karen's voice was a true gift to all music lovers; pure, angelic, soft, tender, heartfelt, melodic & touching. To me, she blessed us with the Greatest Female Voice of All-Time...I loved her without ever meeting her. Even without hearing her voice, but, just the thought of her brings tears to my eyes...and always will.
Back in the day when record companies found the best song writers to produce hits for artists to record. Great song writing and arranging. I think Karen's brother Richard did all of the arranging. He is the genius behind their unique sound. By employing an arranging technique that utilized multi-track(invented by guitarist Les Paul) recording he could create that trademark sound of thick chordal harmony with his and Karen's voice. I remember falling in love with their sound as a 14-year old high schooler. Two voices sounding as a full choir with lush harmonies. The "hook" of the song Close To You is a great example of this. Burt Bacharach composed many of their best hits such as Close To You.
You go into a store this time of year, and hear her singing Christmas songs, and she sounds like an angel. Her passing was so tragic. My generation grew up on her music.
There is no doubt about it she is the greatest female singer ever! Why o why did you die so young?? Thanks for bringing it alive again and of course the fab beatles. God I feel like crying!!
I absolutely loved watching your reaction to the amazing talent of Karen Carpenter,I’m 63 and remember when this song first came out on the radio,I still react the same every time I hear her incredible vocals, such an incredible talent that was sadly gone to soon!
The drummer who could sing!! There will never be another who can match the natural talent of Ms. Karen Carpenter. She was a cutie who we lost way too soon.
Great reaction to a wonderful song by one of the purest vocalists ever, and a heck of a drummer too! If you ever feel like reacting to more Carpenters maybe you could try "There's A Kind of Hush", "I Won't Last A Day Without You" or "Yesterday Once More"! Best wishes for continued success with your channel!
i don't know about that, she "belted" more than a few songs, for example the chorus of "superstar", ticket to ride" and a few other songs.. she DID have a 4 octave range...
CLOSE TO YOU BY THE CARPENTERS. ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS EVER RECORDED IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC. SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SONG. THE BEAUTY AND WARMTH OF KAREN CARPENTER'S VOCALS ARE SO MOVING. REST IN PEACE KAREN CARPENTER AND THANK YOU FOR THE BEAUTIFUL GIFT OF THIS WONDERFUL SONG THAT YOU GAVE TO THE ENTIRE WORLD. GOD BLESS YOU. AND GOD BLESS THE ENTIRE CARPENTERS FAMILY.
Watching your reactions to Karen Carpenter has taken me on such a whirlwind of emotions I didn't even know needed to come out. I grew up listening to her and loved her voice so much I wanted to grow up to be her. I've cried seeing you fall in love in love with her too. Love your reactions!!
Don’t fret! The Las Vegas Legacy tribute duo of Sally Olsen and Ned Mills recreate The Carpenters. An absolute astonishing reincarnation of Karen in every way, vocally and in style and performance. Definitely check out Sally and Ned! You’ll be glad you did. 😊
Karen would be amazed 54 years after Close to You people listen to it. Karen is the greatest female voice of all time . Karen was a Star on Earth and Gods lead female singer in heaven.
Dearest Morenikeji, your sweet and heartfelt reaction to this classic 1970s hit song was great. I grew up with this group and they were very successful. I hope all the best for you, precious young lady. May God lead and guide and bless you. Eric
Cannot hear this, without tears. We were all so young in that summer of 1970. I was 23, Richard was too, & Karen was all of 20 y/o. So young, all of life was ahead for us. ----------MJL, 75 y/o
There is an American singer, Linda Ronstadt, who many consider the greatest American singer ever. Linda’s material progressed from Rock/country to pop to opera and finally Mexican folk music. She has sold millions of records and won many awards. Both Linda and Karen’s work touched people of all ages. They both became famous about the same time (late 1960s). Please do a reaction of Linda Ronstadt’s Blue Bayou. I think this song is comparable to the Easy Listening genre that the Carpenters prospered with. I have a feeling you will really like it. Love your reactions!
My Mom used to sing this to us when we were kids. She sounded so much like Ms. Carpenter, and we would just fall into a deep sleep by the time she finished the song. That was nearly 40 years ago. I love all of your reactions, because you are the genuine article. You mean what you feel. Thanks!
I was a girl when this song came out, so I've loved it for half a century or so. It was so much fun watching your reaction. I believe Karen Carpenter has the most beautiful female voice of the last century, perhaps longer. Nice to watch your appreciation. : ) And just subbed.
No doubt Karen is one of the best female singers of all time! She does have that soothing and calming effect for people who listen to The Carpenters music! You did ask for suggestions, so I am suggesting another fabulous female singer and song This would be Linda Ronstadt singing You're No Good! Bye for now!
I was in junior high when this song came out. The local rock and roll stations played this song all the time, it was that good. The Carpenters logo were on the side of city buses.
Hi Baby Girl , that is where I long to be "CLOSE TO YOU". I have been listening to this song for about 50 years now, since the early '70's and Karen does have such a clear and soft voice. I have been watching your videos for a few months now and I think you are beautiful and perfect and I love your reactions to the songs. Keep it up Baby Girl .. Vernon from Missouri USA ..
One of the all time great female vocalists if all time. Also a very talented drummer. This about 70 or 71. Also check out "Rainy Days And Mondays" with her on drums, it's really really good. ✌️☮️💕
The greatest female vocalist of the 20th century. Karen Carpenter had an angelic voice that elicited so many emotions. I still get emotional hearing these songs at the age of 56.
Not only did she have a beautiful 3 octave contralto voice, but she had the distinct ability to make you Feel the song. She sang straight from her heart...to the listener's heart. Rare, indeed. Gone way too soon.
Of all the Carpenters videos out there on UA-cam, this is my favorite. It's very early in Karen's career and they haven't over-done her makeup and hair yet. She still has that fresh face and simple beauty. At this point, also, they hadn't forced her out of playing the drums (which she loved) to be out front. That was one of the first mistakes they made with her, to take her away from her drums.
Karen was a treasure to the world. It is so very special to see such a young woman from Nigeria being moved and amazed by Karen and that era like you Mo. You are such a treat to watch, and react. You have such a vibrant and lovely humanity to you. Favorite baby girl indeed.
Let's give credit to the composers of "Close to You", the legendary Burt Bacharach and Hal David. They created a classic. Karen and Richard's artistic brilliance transformed this classic into a masterpiece in popular music.
Her brother never got all the credit he deserved. He was a great composer, writer, and arranging harmonies.
Certainly one of the best female voices the pop world has ever heard.
Me lembro do dia em que ela faleceu. Meu tio lamentou muito. Ela tinha um grave insuperável.
As I have said many times, Ms. Karen's voice is Pure & Smooth as budder.. ♠W.G.
I bought my first record in London in 1960 and although there have been so many wonderful female artists and singers, I know of none better :)
I agree Canada’s Ann Murray is on that list of female crooners as well check out Snowbird and her version of Danny’s song 💙🎶🎶🇨🇦
The best
This young women doing the critic is absolutely beautiful!! The Carpenters have no comparison in soft rock music!!
That young woman is my wife. I appreciate that you have good taste.
Music was so good back in the 60s, 70s and 80s
What a wonderful voice and drummer.❤😂🎉

This kind of voice and the way of singing as if talking to you which is really the most beautiful existence that has ever appeared in the world.
Must give Richard Carpenter credit for arrangements and production of their brilliant records.
To me, simply the best female singer I've ever heard period

Not only that , she played the drums !
An absolute privilege growing up listening to this lady’s voice 🙏

Yes, so true!
Karen Carpenter had a distinctive contralto vocal type with incredible range. The low feminine voice is smooth and clear.
Very smooth and clear💯
She sang like an angel 😪💖
maybe she died young because the angels were missing her!
Karen Carpenter had one of the purest voices that ever existed. Clarity, femininity and sweetness.

Karen Carpenter > The most beautiful female singing voice I’ve ever heard! 🎤💫💕 Silky Velvety Silk ❤️🩹

Karen Carpenter is the best female vocalist of all time. Her voice can make grown men cry.

Never forget she was a drummer first, and a singer second. She won Rock Drummer of the Year Award in '75, beating out Moon, Baker, and Bonham.
