I had the honor of playing this game at AtCon! It was so much fun, I love the ICRPG mechanics and the over the top Viking Death Squad antics! Thanks again for having me play in your game!!
“Lo, there do I see my father. Lo, there do I see my mother, and my sisters, and my brothers. Lo, there do I see the line of my people, Back to the beginning! Lo, they do call to me. They bid me take my place among them, In the halls of Valhalla! Where the brave may live forever!”
A fun thing to do as a DM is to play a song for the players and say the one shot is based off the song and to see the players trying to figure it out is hilarious and them when certain things coordinate right it is awesome
I ran my version of Viking Death Squad at a local convention, and it was fantastic! Everyone loved the mutual destruction at the end, and cheered wildly. Thanks Hankerin!
This has got to be the very best way to introduce someone to DMing. Pluck them right out of the game, and make them play Lucifer. Awesome concept from top to bottom using Black Sabbath for inspiration. Thank you again.
I think this really shows the merit of an under designed game where there is room for imagination to fill in all the gaps in gameplay and roleplaying. The open ending sounds like a great way to do a legacy of self contained campaigns. I've had the pleasure of being part of an experimental homebrew system Hodge-podge of other games where I chose to play a linage of shady hard-boiled types. By the end my PC's last name was associated with violent brawls.
For the uninitiated, the years was 1970. The album was "Paranoid," the band was "Black Sabbath" and the song was "War Pigs." If you listen to the first minute of the song, Hankerin's antics will make a tad more sense.
Hankerin, I can't believe i have only just found your channel at the beginning of the month, but already i think how i DM will be changed FOREVER!!!! You have taught me so much, thank you
Awesome storyline. I am also been slowing working on a adventure that is going to be based on a metal song. Thanks for sharing your awesome imagination with every one.
so friggin good. from craft to mechanics, story to nuts and bolts of DMing well, its all the things that I love about your channel. Yoda you are awesome!
The opening to this is basically how my post-apoc campaign is gonna start up. How come every time I click on one of these videos I feel like I just think the same as this guy?
I got to play in a test version of this. So awesome to see it in its final form! Hank, the consistency of your quality creative output is mind-boggling!
I was so jealous of those who got to play in this, but happy I got to see the terrain in person. One day, my friend, we will craft together and it will be epic.
HOOOOOOOOOOLLLYYYYYYYYYY MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! That was outright BADASS and INSANE!!!! Your work continues to amaze and inspire me. BAM!! NAILED IT!!!!
Hello my beautifully minded tall dwarf. I was at work doing some mundane and repetitive work, so I thought to myself "Why not listen to some rock music?" I proceeded to turn on Disturbed's new album, The first song comes on titled "the calm before the storm" and immediately I am standing in a full bar, people are passing through the decent sized town and are stepping out of the foggy rain to tear at some mutton, down a few drinks, and dry off. Well into the night of fun an eerie silence falls, the silence lingers and no one knows why. After a few moments of ear splitting silence a blood curdling scream pours through the door. The gateway swings open as a man falls to the floor yelling and clawing to get inside, too late for a dark form drops over him. His death rattle stuns all in the room but one older man. He grabs up his mace and runs up swinging as hard as he could, the mace nearly tearing all the way through. Looking outside the white whiskered man kicks the corpse out of the way and slams the door shut, his normally red face was flushed and he had a dire look on his face. He looks over the crowd of stunned onlookers and yells out "Upstairs Now!!!" As he drops the barracade. I fight the sudden crowd and brandish my bastard sword. Walking up to the window I pull the curtain slightly to reveal the shambling forms making their way through the fog to the bar. I look around the room and all but five have run upstairs. Once again the deafining sound of silence fills the room as we gather ourselves for the coming battle. The old man going back to grab his shield, A pair of twins grab their rapiers, The mountain of a bar keep pulls out two heavy crossbows, and I give a quick prayer to whatever God's are listening. Thus ends the calm before the storm.
This is a cool idea man, lots of ways to customize it and also a way to bring in new people to RPGs. Like allowing the players to create a hero from history or whatever media form would really entice allot of potential players with something familiar.
Ice poop? Will the evil never stop now we have to deal with ice poops. (Watching this with CC on is a lot of fun DM becomes Yum)(Lucifer Himself is noosa) Makes me want to make these boards. Very cool encounter.
*TRIGGER ALERT* Hey Hankerin just wanted to say that my favourite class is monks and warlocks, favourite 5e book is DMG especially the tavern name generator section helps me a lot to put an adjective and a noun together. I think small bonuses like 1d8+1 (+1 radiant against undead) are the best part of D&D and advantage & disadvantage system is very complicated in my opinion. Also clerics are so not fun if you ask me. I think multiclassing is _OP, maaaan_. By the way apple juice is better than beer I feel like. I'm sure Hank will agree, guys.
Congrats! You've watched all the videos on this channel and have stated the opposite. I bet secretly you use all Hank's fundamentals at your table. Why? Bc they're freaking awesome! Internet trolls don't regenerate
+ 1 MIIIILLION for the War Pigs jams Also, the AC/DC horns ! PS. Wicked sculpt of the Prince of Darkness is wicked!!!! "I don't know. Here's some loot."
That was metal as anything. You've improved my encounters, so thankyou for that. I still have trouble roping them all together, especially between adventures and involving the players. Any advice, or people I should check put perhaps?
So eh hey, yeah. I kind of fancy running this and wondered if you have any notes for any of it that you could share? Help a fellow dm? Ill be sending the group links to this ince theyve played it. Fell in love with the idea of it straight away. Love your content. Dont ever stop!
Hey, i watched a few times, took notes and changed it up a bit to suit what minis i have. Ill find some way of contacting you and share what i done with it. Thankyou for this. Its the first totally independent one shot ive really liked.
The paint scheme on the final board is amazing. I'm still new to crafting and can't just pick out how you did it, and everything any one every teaches online are the boring gray scale, dungeon looks. What colors are you using to get that red canyon look?
base coat is a very dark red, then sponge on brighter brisk red and a sort of sand or beige for sponged hilites...cap it off with some metallic gold dry brush
Please make a craft video about those tanks. (Side note: I feel there is a gap in the rpg craft when it comes to sci fi stuff which somone needs to fill)
Your tanks and the end demon came out super well. Baller, brother. Side note: I started this video late last night and fell asleep to your rantings and ravings. It was an odd experience. I don't recommend it.
Well since he said he crafted it all, I bet it only took him the company of a few jugs of beer, if you catch my meaning. You can get some nice results imo by buying some cheap used warhammer 40k stuff of eBay and kitbashing it with regular toy tanks.
I got to learn a new song and it wasn't Warpigs. Awesome video Hank and the opening was pure heavy metal. I can't wait to surprise my players with blank sheets this Saturday and the opportunity to teach them all a little bit more about heavy metal.
I had the honor of playing this game at AtCon! It was so much fun, I love the ICRPG mechanics and the over the top Viking Death Squad antics! Thanks again for having me play in your game!!
Hank doesn't fuck around. "Play D&D Like a Big Ol' Badass"? No shit. This is AWESOME!
Seeing this in person was so rad.
“Lo, there do I see my father.
Lo, there do I see my mother,
and my sisters, and my brothers.
Lo, there do I see the line of my people,
Back to the beginning!
Lo, they do call to me.
They bid me take my place among them,
In the halls of Valhalla!
Where the brave may live forever!”
A fun thing to do as a DM is to play a song for the players and say the one shot is based off the song and to see the players trying to figure it out is hilarious and them when certain things coordinate right it is awesome
This is the best Oneshot idea I have heard so far. Chapeau bas!
Dude the War pigs connection is the shit!
It is so cool to see a bit of the evolution of this game! I love it.
I ran my version of Viking Death Squad at a local convention, and it was fantastic! Everyone loved the mutual destruction at the end, and cheered wildly.
Thanks Hankerin!
Imagine being a 9th century warrior and waking up in the 40k verse, wooh damn son, that's fucking awesome
This has got to be the very best way to introduce someone to DMing.
Pluck them right out of the game, and make them play Lucifer.
Awesome concept from top to bottom using Black Sabbath for inspiration.

War Executives...cool. very dark cyberpunk.
This also had a BattleToads theme!
This is the highest caliber of badassness right here! Them Bill Ward drum fills get me fired up!!
For the uninitiated, the years was 1970. The album was "Paranoid," the band was "Black Sabbath" and the song was "War Pigs." If you listen to the first minute of the song, Hankerin's antics will make a tad more sense.

Sabbath!?! Love it man! Generals gathered in their masses!!!!
OMG! Arrow here! It was so much fun playing IRL with you guys at AtCon! :D - Tamiko
what i never figured out was: whats up with the flowers? There were the flowers in Hell, and i was like, WTH? XD
Satan is no beast! He has taste (and a degree in interior decoration)
Awesome storyline. I am also been slowing working on a adventure that is going to be based on a metal song. Thanks for sharing your awesome imagination with every one.
As Vivian would say - "Very Metal!"
so friggin good. from craft to mechanics, story to nuts and bolts of DMing well, its all the things that I love about your channel. Yoda you are awesome!
Niiiice! Sabbath and Vikings...can't beat that!
The opening to this is basically how my post-apoc campaign is gonna start up. How come every time I click on one of these videos I feel like I just think the same as this guy?
I got to play in a test version of this. So awesome to see it in its final form! Hank, the consistency of your quality creative output is mind-boggling!
Mind freaking blown!
Mythical epicness of wonderment!
I was so jealous of those who got to play in this, but happy I got to see the terrain in person. One day, my friend, we will craft together and it will be epic.
This is amazing. The first campaign I ever ran was about Vikings and based off of The Sword's first two albums, Age of Winters and Gods of the Earth.
HOOOOOOOOOOLLLYYYYYYYYYY MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!
That was outright BADASS and INSANE!!!! Your work continues to amaze and inspire me. BAM!! NAILED IT!!!!
This is what the Heavy Metal movie should have been
This is absolutely metal as hell, and I love it!

I forgot to say on there that I wouldn't have thought of any of that without watching this video. So I thank you very much fellow dwarf
This is beyond awesome! I hope this is the basis for your next novel because I want to read about 400 pages of this Epic!
i feel more badass just watching this. great vid and inspiration for oneshots
This is a cool idea man, lots of ways to customize it and also a way to bring in new people to RPGs. Like allowing the players to create a hero from history or whatever media form would really entice allot of potential players with something familiar.
This is fantastic. Good job!
The last encounter is a work of genius.
This got me some great inspiration for my own adventure. Now I just need to find a new group to play it with.
Ice poop? Will the evil never stop now we have to deal with ice poops. (Watching this with CC on is a lot of fun DM becomes Yum)(Lucifer Himself is noosa) Makes me want to make these boards. Very cool encounter.
Holy crapshoot! You weren't kidding when you said that you were crafting stuff for the con! These crafts are crayzay!

"I don't know. Here's some loot."
Do they still "blink/flash" Hankerin? Cause that would have been serious icing on the cake.
they?
Think maybe the torches he means?
Keep doing things the exact same way
This is awesome!
That was metal as anything. You've improved my encounters, so thankyou for that. I still have trouble roping them all together, especially between adventures and involving the players. Any advice, or people I should check put perhaps?
not sure i understand the question...
Right, my bad. What I mean is how do you make it into a campaign. I do one shots fine, but I have difficulty stringing it all together.
First!
Awesome, love it! One shots are tons of fun
Just ran this my IRL group (with some of my own twist). Fucking awesome fun.
Awesome!
So eh hey, yeah. I kind of fancy running this and wondered if you have any notes for any of it that you could share? Help a fellow dm? Ill be sending the group links to this ince theyve played it. Fell in love with the idea of it straight away. Love your content. Dont ever stop!

This was like starcraft and diablo meets dnd lol

Thanks man. I've been looking forever. Love the channel by the way. I love your style and sense of humor.
Please make a craft video about those tanks. (Side note: I feel there is a gap in the rpg craft when it comes to sci fi stuff which somone needs to fill)

MDK is a pretty good game.
Did the players create their PCs before the adventure or did you give them pre-gens?
Been wondering about that...I am trying to find a way to make this concept work with my group...

I really want to Like this video but it's currently sitting at 666 Likes. I pity the soul that goes against the unholy number!
GASTON SKULLCRUSHER WAS THERE BEFORE IT WAS COOL.
Do you use a 3d printer to make your battle maps or some other way? They are cool, but I imagine take up a lot of space.
yehp.....so many shelves...

Yep, you are right. Time to go get some beer.

Luis Martinez the opening routine is a key aspect of drunkens and dragons
I got to learn a new song and it wasn't Warpigs. Awesome video Hank and the opening was pure heavy metal. I can't wait to surprise my players with blank sheets this Saturday and the opportunity to teach them all a little bit more about heavy metal.
You have to preheat the oven before you put the bird in the fire
Right? This fuggin guy . . . having fun and shit. Pfffft. Be serious, pal.
How did you get the texture on that final board?
pounded it with a cinder block
